To me Soundwave should be:
1. A communications officer
2. An intelligence officer
3. And has lots of little minions who are mainly spies of vrs. types.
I have no problem with him being a vehicle and while I'm not so hung up on him being able to hide in his alt mode ,I think it would be cool if he was a SUV/Van ect with lots of internal comm systems like police use on stakeouts. Then he could be parked in the middle of the city as a mobile dropoff point for his spy group as they scoured the city for info and analized the info they bring back.
The thing is though, that only two characters named "Soundwave" have appeared in any cartoon or Comic. Those are G1 Soundwave, and Cybertron Soundwave. Most people only remember G1 Soundwave. None of the other "versions" have apperared in any media. They have only been toys. That is what makes Soundwave's G1 appearance and alt mode so iconic. If you go back through the various news articles here on this site regarding the movie and Sopundwave's inclusion 9or lack thereof), you will notice that Hasbro all but demanded that Soundwave mass convert.
NOT TRUE!!!
In Beast Wars: the gathering, the "BW mutants" alligator that attacked the Insect predacons (including Powerpinch) in the swamp was called Soundwave.
He transformed from Bat to Alligator & was called Soundwave.
That is an apperance another soundwave made in the TF medias.
Well, I haven't seen that episode, so I can't confirm nor deny that. However, even if he was, did he ever appear again, or was that his only appearance? If it was the only appearance, that is still no better than being just a toy. It's just as forgetable. No, it won't hurt the movie. It just adds another element to the mythos. The reason why a stereo is so important to the character, aside from the fact that being a piece of stereo audio electronics (a tape deck originally) is what gave Soundwave his nome on the first place, is the fact that as a stereo, he can blend in anywhere, be it indoors, or outdoors, in the city or in the country, in civilian areas or in a war zone with the military, even in a secure government building. Everyone has a stereo. Like a television, they are one of the most ubiquitous and thus inconspicuous objects in the world. Not only that but that type of alt mode allows Soundwave to "play back" what his minions record as well. A communications vehicle has to have someone inside it to gather the informatoiopn and then realay those communications to its final destination. The only one who really hears the communication is the one inside the vehicle. If Soundwave were a communcations truck, aside form being very conspicuous, would be the only one who would hear or see any of the audio or visual communications. He couldn't "play them back either because any speakers or screen would be inside the vehicle. Someone would have to go inside to watch or listen to the communications or recordings, and none of the Decepticons could do that. By being a portable stereo multi-media player, he can play back the recordings and communications directly for Megatron and the other Decepticons. By having a DVD player with monitor built in, he can display visual images on the monitor built into his chest, or use it as a projector for holographic images. By having he CD changer and speakers he can broadcast the audio recordings so that Megatron can hear them. The recording and playback features of a stereo system allow others to see and hear the recordings. He couldn't do that with a vehicle mode. Combine that with his function as a Communications officer and infiltration specialist, and it makes sense for his alt mode to be a stereo.Codyfett wrote: Soundwave shrinking is going to hurt TF2....Tramp Im really trying to understand why Soundwave being a radio is so important guy?? Soundwave is one of my favorite characters to man. I really like Soundwave, but man......you lose me with this shrinking thing.

Problem with having soundwave a portable stereo is that he would be a copy of frenzy, and on needing someone to be inside, well soundwave did have his minions to do that for him. plus soundwave has had 5 (6 if u count the mutant ehich i don't think is the g1 soundwave) he has had stereo, truck( was an icbm truck though), mobile communications vehicle (war within), a lamp post-like thing (mtmte part1) ,and a jet.

Not really. First difference is mass conversion, which frenzy didn't have. Second, a larger, more decked out high-end portable stereo as an alt mode. instead of being a small single CD stereo with just the two relatively small speakers. I'm thinking a large portable stereo with large, detatchable speakers containing woofers, mids and tweeters, three-disk CD changer and built-in DVD player with monitor for movies, as well as ports for periferals like an MP3 player (Laserbeak/Booster X-10), a remote (I'm thinking Ravage), and somethng else that Rumble can turn into. Ever seen one of those really large boomboxes that look like a modular home stereo system? That is the kind of portable stereo I'm talking about.

No just no
He needs to be a millitary or police survelance vehical. People who live in areas around millitary bases see them all the time and it is certanly not inconcievable that these vehicals can be deployed on manuvers well away from a millitary base... since they are.
O by the way lets see your tags.

A military vehicle would stick out anywhere else. They draw attention in cities and anywhere further away from the base. I was in the military. They aren't designed to blend in to a civilian area. People stare. Police vehicles do too. They draw attention. When people see a cop car, or a SWAT van, they gert curious to know what is going down. They draw attention.
Tramp wrote:Once again though, that is a military town, like Fayetteville, NC near Fort Bragg where I was stationed when I was in the Army. It's a completly different story in places like LA, or New york, or Buffalo. Even though we have NG and Reserve groups, and an AirForce Reserve base, military vehicles do draw attention.
Tramp wrote:Most of those sound like small towns except for Tulsa, which, I believe is the state Capitol of Oklahoma. They aren't cities. there are also more military bases there. They aren't as prevelant elsewhere, and even then you get onlookers because most people find military vehicles "cool". They really don't fit into purely civilian areas nowhere near a military base. They stick out.

Tramp wrote:Any interest is too much for someone like Soundwave who is an infiltrator. His job requires absolute inconspicuostiy. Also, Military vehicles do not run maneuvers everywhere. They run them in areas only where they are authorized to. I know that because I was in the Army. I served in Desert Storm. I know exactly how prevalent military vehicles are in different locations and what kind of attention they draw.

SOUNDWAVE!!
1) G1 purest...he cant and wont be a stereo of any sort. IF, and I do mean IF, he was, the whole size conversion was addressed in those few seconds the Allspark went from cavern to handheld size.
2) All the Decepticons were miltary vehicles, so I think they'd stick with that...1) So, being ex-USAF, what about Soundwave as an AWACS?? An AWACS can go ANYWHERE, is a spy of sorts, and I think it fits the name "Soundwave" to a degree, sure as hell fits Soundwaves job. Unfortunately I dont have an idea for the cassettes with this mode.
2) A Submarine?? Once again, it can go anywhere, uses sound, and the cassettes could be torpedoes he launches out.
Just brainstorming here...Im not Steven Speilberg, its 1am, and I'm just shooting ideas out that maybe we can get behind.![]()

Naww im not so sure man...how old are you for real lol lol lol lol. When were you pulled out the hole?? I was pulled out in 79. Now when where you pulled out? Be honest man. I can't continue this convo/debate without knowing lol.
I just have this feeling I'm debating with a minor. I don't want to do that.
December 26 1970. I am definately older than you. I even served in Desert Storm

Yes, he can be a stereo, especially since the issue of mass conversion was at least partially addressed with the Allspark.2) All the Decepticons were miltary vehicles, so I think they'd stick with that...1) So, being ex-USAF, what about Soundwave as an AWACS?? Well, no, not all Decepticons were military vehicles. Frenzy was not even a vehicle, and Barricade was a civilian cop car. Neitrher are military, so there blows that right out of the water. Also, no, AWACS and Submarines can't go "anywhere". AWACS are restricted to the air, and Submarines are restricted to the ocean. Neither can go indoors, Neither can go in the city. They are extremely limited. They are also extreme attention getters when they do appear.
