Well a bit late to post in this topic for me but...

I read in an article on another site the other day... says Soundwave will be an Air-Craft Carrier!

I hope that's wrong...
I heard of the Aircraft Carrier rumour because they originally wanted it in the first film but was cut due to budget restraints.. But Soundwave??

True it could play into the idea that Soundwave travels out to the ocean to recover Megatron, being loyal as ever. But A: a carrier is much to big for him, and B: if they go through with their mass conversion like they seem to want to with him.. it would be FAR too much to shrink one of those things down to an Optimus sized robot!
Even if they had a carrier being made of Soundwave and all his smaller minions in a combiner sense, it would still be pushing it.

You have the link? The onyl thing I have read wa that Bay wants an Aircraft carrier Transformer. There has been no mention of him wantin Soundwave" as that character. It also would not fit for him in the least. I think you're getting your reports confused.Either that or someone is pulling your chain

I keep seeing alot of comments about what is iconic about Soundwave (keeping in mind this is usually the G1 vrs.). To me that changes depending upon how many of the series (toon and comic) that someone has read.

To me Soundwave should be:
1. A communications officer
2. An intelligence officer
3. And has lots of little minions who are mainly spies of vrs. types.

I have no problem with him being a vehicle and while I'm not so hung up on him being able to hide in his alt mode ,I think it would be cool if he was a SUV/Van ect with lots of internal comm systems like police use on stakeouts. Then he could be parked in the middle of the city as a mobile dropoff point for his spy group as they scoured the city for info and analized the info they bring back.

It was that mode that he derived his name from in the first place, and an updated version of that mode is still the best choice including his mass conversion, which was only off limits for the first movie. This is what I think he should really look like, A larger portable stereo soundsystem with a built in DVD player and CD changer.

You got my vote! LOVE IT! Boombox. Must be a boombox!

Longs for the days of G1 where we only had to worry about Megatron, Soundwave and Laserbeak wanting to be Autobots, Swoop calling himself Tracks and Slingshot calling himself Slingslot!

The thing is though, that only two characters named "Soundwave" have appeared in any cartoon or Comic. Those are G1 Soundwave, and Cybertron Soundwave. Most people only remember G1 Soundwave. None of the other "versions" have apperared in any media. They have only been toys. That is what makes Soundwave's G1 appearance and alt mode so iconic. If you go back through the various news articles here on this site regarding the movie and Soundwave's inclusion (or lack thereof), you will notice that Hasbro all but demanded that Soundwave mass convert.

NOT TRUE!!!

In Beast Wars: the gathering, the "BW mutants" alligator that attacked the Insect predacons (including Powerpinch) in the swamp was called Soundwave.
He transformed from Bat to Alligator & was called Soundwave.

That is an apperance another soundwave made in the TF medias.

Soundwave

Postby neils1 » Fri Aug 03, 2007 10:04 am

Yes I would like Soundwave in the next movie, but in the same original format as in the animated cartoon, I think it would be more of a challenge to see if Dreamworks etc could figure out how to do that!

Exactly!!! Iconic is just opinions. Soundwave BARELY even transformed in the show...I mean barely, most of the time he was in robot mode. There are certain things That NEED TO BE SEEN. The communications thing is very very important. The color of Soundwave is important. Rumble, Ravage & Laserbeak are important. Soundwave shrinking????

The aircraft carrier is going to be Omega Supreme. The Constructicons are rumored to be in TF2. So you telling me the D-cons are going to have the Constructicons and an aircraft carrier??
There is no excuse for TF3 to not be done properly!!!

Postby Hellbender » Fri Aug 03, 2007 12:31 pm

Ok, to settle this. Years back, a local radio station used to haul this giant 15'x20' working boombox around on a trailer. They would take it to the beaches, around town to special events, and to promotional events like store openings, and have parties and dance around it. It was loud, had the stations logo on it, and it was big. I'm talking Transformer big. And several other stations in other cities had their own as well. So... why couldn't Soundwave be one of those? He would never have to "impossible shrink" again!

Sort of. The Marvel comic vrs ,the Dreamwave vrs., the original cartoon vrs are all "G1" but Soundwave is different in each vrs. , slightly I admit but different.

Well, I haven't seen that episode, so I can't confirm nor deny that. However, even if he was, did he ever appear again, or was that his only appearance? If it was the only appearance, that is still no better than being just a toy. It's just as forgetable.

No, it won't hurt the movie. It just adds another element to the mythos. The reason why a stereo is so important to the character, aside from the fact that being a piece of stereo audio electronics (a tape deck originally) is what gave Soundwave his nome on the first place, is the fact that as a stereo, he can blend in anywhere, be it indoors, or outdoors, in the city or in the country, in civilian areas or in a war zone with the military, even in a secure government building. Everyone has a stereo. Like a television, they are one of the most ubiquitous and thus inconspicuous objects in the world. Not only that but that type of alt mode allows Soundwave to "play back" what his minions record as well. A communications vehicle has to have someone inside it to gather the informatoiopn and then realay those communications to its final destination. The only one who really hears the communication is the one inside the vehicle. If Soundwave were a communcations truck, aside form being very conspicuous, would be the only one who would hear or see any of the audio or visual communications. He couldn't "play them back either because any speakers or screen would be inside the vehicle. Someone would have to go inside to watch or listen to the communications or recordings, and none of the Decepticons could do that. By being a portable stereo multi-media player, he can play back the recordings and communications directly for Megatron and the other Decepticons. By having a DVD player with monitor built in, he can display visual images on the monitor built into his chest, or use it as a projector for holographic images. By having he CD changer and speakers he can broadcast the audio recordings so that Megatron can hear them. The recording and playback features of a stereo system allow others to see and hear the recordings. He couldn't do that with a vehicle mode. Combine that with his function as a Communications officer and infiltration specialist, and it makes sense for his alt mode to be a stereo.

Yeah, and it would stick out like a sore thumb. Things like the "giant boombox" that radio station had is designed and built for one purpose to draw in crowds of onlookers. It is deigned to atract attention. For someone like Soundwave, that would be a disaster. the last thing he would want is to attract attention to himself.

Probably older than you. My point is that cables cvan't display r playback data or signals, they just relay the signal. You need speakers and a monitor to display and play back the actual recordings, you need a speaker and a camera to do the recording. the cables don't do that.

You know how Megs kept his Cybertronian form? Why can't Soundwave?
The perfect form would be the one he (Ravage & Lazerbeak included) has in Megatron: Origin.
