I just like to say, that it is indeed one historic occasion. And not only because he's the first Africna-Americna president, but because so many people actually are hoping and wishing that he does a great job. And so many people have their thoughts and hearts in what he will do.

That kind of posiitve energy, will undoubtedly be an important factor in his presidency. I'm a firm believer that mentality is an important part of action. And that the thoughts of people can in fact change the outcome of a situation.

Do I think he will be a miracle worker and magically make everytihng right again by next week? No. But I do believe he has good intentions, and is absolutely commited to doing his best in that office. Which is all we can ask of him.

I think motivation, and wanting to do the right things, and being committed will always be far more important than what you may know at any point in your life.

Things can be learned, positive attitudes towards your job, and your duty come from within are what help you Excel at your work.

May Barak Obama he be what everyone hopes for.

And Ryan, don't let anyone tell you what you should or should not put on your site. Its a great site, and its great because of you and the people in who contribute to it.

Can I jst say, "so what?!"

Can we please move beyond the "historic" (liberal code word for black) presidency? He's just another liberal that got fed to use by the media, who did everything in their power to demonize Bush for 8 years. All these former hippies and kids of kippes think they are part of the civil rights movement because they voted for a black guy. He's just another corrupt Chicago politician in a saleable package. For the first time in my 17 years of voting I am ashamed of my fellow americans for electing someone based on the color of his skin and NOT the content of his character. Shame on you if you voted for a man for his color.

I hope he doesn't screw up the country half as much as I fear he will in the next 4 years. Thanks for being president... is he done yet? Counting the days until he leaves or gets impeached.

The media has long played a part in the elections of presidents, and the candidates who often get themselves elected are the ones who best work that field to their advantage. It's been true of Jefferson, Jackson, Theodore Roosevelt, Wilson, FDR, Regean, Clinton, and now Obama. It's nothing new.

Yep, I'm just surprised as the blatant and one sided it was this time. The man did nothing spectacular and had the press acting like he was the second coming. All flash, no substance, that's Omaba Presidency from the looks of things.

I'm just one of the 61,780,706 people who didn't want that man as our next president for one reason or another. So, on a positive note, I hope he doesn't screw things up nearly as bad as people seem to think Bush did (actually the liberals in Congress did it, but that's another thread). I hope he somehow doesn't get thousands of people killed when terrorists think the US have become wimps and bomb us daily. Hurray for Obama, may he pass to the history books quickly and quietly.

You should be proud to be an American at all times. Quit blaming Bush for all the damage, Clinton started screwing our country before Bush was in office. Bush may not have done much to fix things but its not fair to blame him for everything.

Bush did a pretty damn good job for what he faced, especially as soon as he went into office he had to deal with 9/11. How many more terrorist attacks have we had since 9/11???

Yes. Everyone who voted for Obama did so because of the color of his skin, and are therefore bad. Never mind the fact that the previous 43 presidents were all white males, painting a bad picture of our country, or that even 30 years ago, having a sign that said "Whites Only" was perfectly acceptable. Any sort of mention that he is our first African American president, and thus showing that we can change, is a horrible remark that should be frowned upon.

And I voted for him, because I believe he really can fix this mess, and because Sarah Palin is an idiot.

Scaleface wrote:I hope he doesn't screw up the country half as much as I fear he will in the next 4 years. Thanks for being president... is he done yet? Counting the days until he leaves or gets impeached.

Who cares if Obama gets impeached? Even if he does, it still requires a 2/3 Majority from the Senate. And even if he is removed from office, that means Biden becomes president.

And 4 years is barely enough. Obama has a recession and a war he needs to fix.

Doesn't matter where the problem started; it was Bush who was in office when the rug was finally pulled out from under everyone. And as every President before him (and those who will come after him), since it happened on his watch, he will be the one to get the blame. As Harry Truman said about the Presidential office, "The buck stops here."

But again, that's getting off topic a little.

You don't fix a recession. Clearly you need to read up on economic theory... (and don't tell me you're one of those people who thinks the person Bush was solely responsible for bringing a recession upon America as well as --lest you forget-- the entire world, 'cause it just doesn't work that way).

You might try to contain the negative effects (Clinton and Bush are BOTH responsible for these BTW) of a recession though and that's the thing Obama's gonna try --I don't envy his job though.

I agree, voting for someone based on color. Is damned stupid.

The color issue will always be big, no matter what stand-point you're coming from.

The headlines asking is Barack is black enough to be president before the campaign.

Then the headlines after he wins saying he's not black.

It's ridiculous.

But when you get down to the nitty-gritty, and look past the color. Obama hit us right where we needed to be hit.

We did want change, not to use his slogan or anything. But most of us Americans really did. Looking at the past couple of years, whats happened? We had an internet group gather together and fight a bogus "religion"

People are finally standing up and saying "this isn't right"

Obama actually talked about making our country a better place.

McCain was too busy being manipulated by his party to do much of anything, and Palin didn't help any.

Though I gotta say, I watched the inauguration and I'm glad they used his middle-name in the oath.

Nobody should be ashamed of their name, people shouldn't judge somebody based on their name.

On a final note. I want the escort car for the president.

The best wat to stop a recession would be to have the federal government stop messing with the free markets, something I DO NOT expect Obama to do.

Shadowman wrote:Yes. Everyone who voted for Obama did so because of the color of his skin, and are therefore bad.

If it wasn't in the forefront of every Obama supporter's mind then why is it the FIRST thing ever mentioned when he's spoken of. "It's HISTORIC!" blah blah... that's the best you can say about the guy. He voted for a black guy, who cares? He's also a flaming liberal and inexperienced as heck.

Yes, Biden is also liberal and would take his place, but one positive step at a time. Hope neither of them will be president long.

Not to derail too much, but this should be addressed. The reason it's so easy to blame former President Bush for the troubles of the past 8 years is simple. He was a Reactive President, instead of a Proactive one. He waited for trouble to happen, then tried his best to fix it.

If he were proactive, 9/11 could have been prevented. However, since he was reactive, changes were made after the fact and we have yet to be attacked again.

If he were proactive, we would have been prepared for the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina. However, since he was reactive, changes were made that helped avoid similar circumstances from happening during the dozens of hurricanes that have since happened.

If he were proactive, the bailouts wouldn't be needed. There should have been early signs of trouble investigated. However, since he was reactive, we were forced to bailout the banking industry and automobile industry.

That my friends is why former President Bush gets picked on as much as he does. Sure, the blunders aren't completely his fault, but as the leader of our nation, it was expected of him to plan for all possible threats to our people, be them terrorists, mother nature, or the economy and take preventative measures.

I guess the point is, when I voted, I wanted someone who could prevent such things from occurring in the first place before we did something about it. Granted, our new President will have the advantage of hindsight working in his favor, but I feel confident that there will be fewer blunders under this new administration.

How the heck would Bush have been "proactive" in preventing Katrina damage? By throwing all the corrupt Democrats running New Orleans out of office? I don't think he has that sort of authority, but it would have been funny. Bush walks their mayor's office the "Hey, you guys have to leave, in case there is a big storm we don't want you guys sitting on your hands while people die, just move along... move along.." That would go over well.

They built a freaking city below sea level. Then when it got derstroyed in a storm, then they rebuilt it! No, this won't happen AGAIN. (rolls eyes)

If some big storm blows a city under the water, as much as I dislike him, I WILL NOT blame Obama for it. Even I'm not that biased.

Well there was no way to prevent the damage.

However the Bush administration should have been all over FEMA, pushing them to actually do their jobs, instead of standing around digging in their(FEMA's) collective asses.

Obama is the first African American president. Yes, that is a big deal. Does thinking so make me a bad person? No, it makes me an observant one, who is aware of American history and all of the racism and oppression within it. Did I vote for him because of that? No, I voted because he's suited for the job, (Does experience require being a corrupt Alaskan Governor for just shy of two years?) and because I believe he can undo the problems that happened under Bush's watch.

Actually, I really do agree with you on this. Or at least with most of it. But you have to admit that FEMA was massively inadequate at the time, which is at least partially Bush's fault, as he instated the head of FEMA at the time.

It's not really Bush's job to tell New Orleans citizens or government to evacuate, but it's FEMA's job to assist with that, and although they did, it was too little, too late. And then many citizens didn't want to leave their homes. And the Governor did make some pretty weird statements afterwords. ("Building a chocolate New Orleans"? Even Willy Wonka couldn't support that plan) So the fault really goes to everyone.

And...yeah, building a city in a waterfront basin does seem a little silly, but then buildings were never man's greatest strength. (Take the wires from the Tower of Piza and see what I mean. Someone really should have checked the foundation)

Holland (or Netherlands if you prefer) and Venice have done so successfully for years. In fact, the Netherlands actually reclaimed land from the sea with their dike works. It can be done and maintained with good planning and regular maintence and upgrading.

Unfortunately, it was not the case in New Orleans and that is the fault of the local, state, and federal governments.

Tad annoyed. I wanted to see Obama take the oath live but couldn't because I was told there was to be an important meeting. Well, the meeting lasted 25 minutes tops and covered things I already knew. :-x

I compensated by watching his taking the oath on CNN rebroadcast.

I'm hoping, praying he does well and he's kept safe.

Re: Inauguration of President Barack Obama

Maybe I'm too cynical (and I'm also Canadian, so disgard my comments if you please), but the whole thing is media flash. I would hope for the entire world that this brings a positive change, but I have my reservations that it will.

Still, for those of you happy, enjoy...
