This is still a Transformers site. Nothing else. Ryan started this with his graphic change to the site. If people don't like what is in this thread there is two simple steps.

Welcome to the General Discussion area where just about anything goes! This area is designed to discuss all matters and does not necessarily have to be Transformers related. Please keep topics relevant.

Is the pic of Obama visible in all parts of the site? Yes.

Is it a big deal? No.

Sure, it's a Transformers site but for years Ryan's always tossed up a pic of something he has a connection to. How often has there been something about baseball up there?

Do I feel this sort of thing is necessary? No. But it doesn't affect anything else on the site for me so I move on.

So you can do one of two things.

- Get over it.
- Go away.

That out of the way, as a non-American I really hope Obama does good. A lot of the world is putting a lot of faith in the guy and see him as someone who can make a change, not just for America, but for the rest of the world. And here's hoping he can inspire some of other world leaders to be better leaders, some of them sure need it.

Yes it is a Transformers website, but a forum is a place for users to put forth their opinion (Which you are using quite frequently in this thread) as this is in a General Information/Discussion Sub Forum talking about real life and current events is just fine. Just because you don't like what is happening today that doesn't matter, you can voice your opinion. But that doesn't give you the right to put down other people either.

I'm Australian, and I think that Barrack Obama was the correct choice when voting. Though everything could be different when we have to see him make the hard decisions. And it is a very big moment to see that USA can overcome the racial strains of centuries of problems to vote for an African American man to become the leader of your country. It amazes me to see this as Racial problems is something that needs to be worked on for the world to move forward and maybe this could be one of those first steps.

To be very honest, I hardly ever notice you, aside from petty instigating instances such as this.

What I did notice was the voice of someone who mattered today.

President Obama has acknowledged the task at hand. His first address to the country was broad enough to site the problems we face, but hit on enough relevant and specific subjects to let the public know that they will be addressed promptly.

He has enormous amounts of good will from the public at this point and that kind of capital should be a running start to the large and necessary changes we need.

The general forum discussion is totally cool. the header and homepage graphics is a bit much. in fact, its as lame as if i was in 1999 and a Garth Brooks fan, clicking over to what i thought was an early Garth Brooks site only to find Chris Gaines plastered on everything. Sure that may be a lame analogy, but thats what this feels like: ALIENATION. You run the risk of alienating loyal fans to your site as well as general Transfomers fans. Is that worth celebrating?

Alright. That's enough with the arguing. I had a feeling this thread would bring out some disrespectful people. I banned Kalon for his remarks. Everyone else, please keep this topic civil, respectful, legal, appropriate and on topic. Thanks.

If you don't care for it, don't post in the thread. If I see a thread about something I don't care for, I ignore it.

If you disagree with Ryan about his choice to post the banner image on HIS website, that feel free to ignore it or avoid it for the day. I doubt people have agreed with him on some of the other temp banners that have gone up before, but he has every right to do as he pleases.

Seriously, regardless of your views of today's events, they have happened. And if you are honestly that offended that something of this nature has disrupted your attempts at escapism, than maybe your concerns are deeper than just this site, and should be address as such.

Yes, it most definitely 100% without a doubt is. Sorry if it offends. I have also used this site to make mention of other events that I thought were big enough to a large part of the userbase here in the past. Here are a few examples: the death of Dale Earnhardt, 911, the war in Iraq, the capture of Saddam Hussein, Seibertron.com being an official partner of Rock The Vote during 2004, the death of Ronald Reagan, the death of Gerald Ford, the Virginia Tech Massacre, my various sport affiliations (I think everyone knows I love the Cubbies and I've also featured the Bears, the Lions and UofM at times) and now I wanted to use it to make mention of how excited I am about today. Something positive for once instead of something negative.

Ok, I usually don't post often. I rarely have anything important to say but today I feel I must. First off, I am a registered Republican. Second, I voted for Obama. Third, if the picture offends you then go else where. It doesn't bother me since this is Ryan's site. He can do with it as he pleases, GOT THAT we are visitors to his place. I won't go to someonelses house and tell them to remove their pictures because I don't like them. If you don't like the picture make your own site and put up pictures you like. I applaude Ryan for his choices and respect his ideals, do I like all of them NO but I am not going to act like my two year old and have a fit about it either.

Thank you Daaron. I appreciate the support despite our political differences. Today is not about our differences, but what we have in common. I think we all want to see good happen and I think today is heading in a good direction.

I lurk, and clearly rarely post but I have to express how proud I am of this country. I am also so happy with this site for posting it on the front page. As a black male I am still in shock and disbelief, never thought I'd see it happen, as a transformers collector its great to see my favorite site have a sense of history. Peace

Pros and Cons of Obama in office.

Pro- A true outsider; someone who has not been involved in politics for very long and as such shouldn't be tainted by the corruption.
Con- Lack of experience; has not held a seat other than Senate; has not had any experience in Executive branch at any level, local, state, or national.

Pro- A historic first: a Black President; a man elected on his persona and beliefs.
Cons- Very similar to JFK; may have been elected simply by popularity not by his message or agenda.

Pro- A man who may very well have the power to unite the world to the US.
Con- A man who, in uniting the world to the US, has the potential to alienate the US from its people.

Pro- The sheer excitement and energy he brings to the office is very refreshing in a world of same ol same ol Washington politico.
Con- The man will be more of a target for radicals and extremists than any who has come before him; as a result, the likelihood of assassination may be higher than in decades.

Pro- Michelle Obama is a milf.
Con- None; Michelle Obama is a milf.

Pro- He has surrounded himself with people chosen for their qualifications rather than their political beliefs.
Con- By being open to both sides, he may discourage full cooperation from a Democratic-controlled Congress, some of which are already angry with his selections and ideas.

All in all, it's going to be a tough job. That's why those who are the smartest and brightest in the US pretty much avoid it. Of those that are left, I really think Obama has the best chance of rallying the country. It really is an historic event, though I admit I expected a woman in the White House before a black simply because of time: women's sufferage and rights was the early 1900's while the Civil Rights movement for Blacks was in the late 50's so there has been more time to adjust for women...it just seemed logical to me. I have always been Republican for the most part, but I think we needed this change. Only time will tell but I for one hope that things do change and wish our new President well in the next four years.

...though as a red-blooded American male, I sure wouldn't have minded seeing Sarah Palin more...

We have no problem with differing opinions, just individuals that troll the site. Several people have stated that they don't agree with Ryan putting Obama's pic up in the header, but only one person was asked to leave, then forced to leave. And that was after his comment about assassinating the president.

In regards to the topic though, I have to say I'm glad that the previous chapter of our country's history is coming to a close. I am worried though that our expectations have risen to an unachievable height compliments of the media frenzy surrounding him. Not only does the majority of the USA expect great things from him, but the ENTIRE WORLD as well. With that many people expecting good things, the old cliche definitely applies, "When you try to please everybody, you please nobody".

Despite that, I really do hope President Obama can achieve the most important objectives, the two he campaigned on. Right now, I think the easier one which will happen first will be troop withdrawal from Iraq. I think some people have made this out to be more complicated than how it will actually happen. I'm hoping we can transition rather easily and never have to go back there again.

The real test will be how we pull ourselves out of this recession. As I said, the entire world is looking to President Obama. Mainly because we are in a global recession. So it's going to be hard to make headway on our problem when the rest of the world is no better.

Anyway, I really hope he does well and I hope the leaders of the rest of the world have equal or better success. This is a global threat and requires global action as one man can not do this alone.
