Well i'm only taking the piss a little.

Here's the full story.

V2 is no longer V2. It will be called something else, that something has yet to be decided.

So until such time that it's decided V2 shall not be referred to as V2 but rather "The future version of HMW which was formally known as V2".

Now see why couldnt you have said that a few posts ago instead after we questioned it?

So if the only thing different is the name, then I stick by what I have said in this and the Priorities thread.
(Anyway, I was under the impression that V2 was only ever a work in progress title anyway, I beleive Glyph whanted it ot be called HMW: the Rebirth, or something to that effect.)

Exactly. Some people seem to forget that what I said isn't anything new. We've been told for a while now it was never going to be called V2.

As far as "cryptic nonsense" goes, well, I wouldn't expect anything less from you Lucky. Even if you were part of the Support Staff I doubt that would make you happy. You just seem to have this unquenchable urge to take a shot at "management"

For the record, i'm not management, i'm just support. OS has given support staff members permission to post information from the support forum to here unless he deems otherwise. Crypitc? That sounds more open than ever to me.

Be thankful people. For once this isn't a one man show. For once we're being listened to. For once we're being told things. Maybe not everything, but it's a major improvement over what was.

And most are happy about this.

And instead of griping about what is not being done, why not be happy for what is being done?

Ha ha. Very funny.

So the Titanic gets a new name...

How does this help us now? We have people holding back real progress because they don't want to lose their Alt Modes.

No one has the ability to hold back the progress of this game outside of myself and Seibs. This game will move forward if it kills me (and it might).

Here are the facts:

The weapons will be rolled out with the new application instead of by itself.

I am attempting to get the new application started and finished by the time the movie is released.

No more riddles. No more clues. No more promises. This is just how it is.

The Titanic is now the Love Boat and anyone is welcome aboard (even you, Lucky).

Just saying this b/c I'm afraid that if someone doesn't, you'll have a rude awakening soon:

OS and the support staff are the only ones privy to this big change in how the game is being run. For the rest of the grunts, this just seems same-o-same-o, vague-talk and promises - same stuff we've always gotten.

You can keep telling us things have changed, that "we're being listened to" (frankly, I never thought we weren't being listened to), but other than a weapons restock, we've no evidence that things have changed.

From the last thread, it seemed like OS felt wounded b/c he'd put in a lot of work and only heard complaints, very little excitement. Well, I'm afraid the people who would have been excited weren't b/c they don't put much stock in "soon", "a couple weeks", "less than a month", "when v2 is put up"...

In otherwords, if you guys want to change the tone of the response your getting:

a) Actually tell the players in detail what you're talking about. Frankly, things have only been slightly less vague than ever. What were the new weapons that were about to be installed, what were the stat changes... etc. I don't think very many of the players give a flip about being 'surprised'.

b) If that's unacceptable, then refrain from all the hints which basically amount to 'I know something you don't know' taunting because it never ends well. Players get upset, make arguments (often intelligent ones) and the game staff (I assume) has good counter arguments, but they're so dedicated to keeping secrets they just say 'trust us, you're wrong' and expect the players to just drop it.

c) Start changing and fixing things, so that the players know it's not all talk. For good or ill, at least maybe more players will take interest in voicing their opinions and perhaps be a bit more realistic in voicing those opinions.

d) Remember that those who read these forums, and even less so those who post on them, don't constitute the majority of the players. If you really think changing something will benefit the majority of the players, but 5, 10, or 15% are unhappy and cannot possibly be appeased in some way, well, majority rules, even if they aren't the most vocal group.

Personally, I'd rather see someone try and fix things and fail (unless we're talking crash the game for 6 months fail) than listen to another month of unsupported promises and pointless circular arguments.

---

No more riddles. No more clues. No more promises. This is just how it is.

If that's true, then that's a step in the right direction. If you're pretty sure that the new "application" is going to be up in two and a half months though, why not go ahead and release the new weapons system? As Silverbolt suggested, it would be a good way to test them. And if we have less than 68 days left to play, then it doesn't really matter if the balance of power shifts b/c people aren't willing to reset. It's like worrying about the course of evolution, when total, unavoidable extinction is looming within ones generation.

Most of the arguments I considered making have been phrased better by others, so I'll just chime in to add another voice in support of the weapon restructuring before the alt rotator. I was really looking forward to the opportunity to play with a wide selection of useful weapons, instead of the "Battle-Blades-or-Gatling-Gun" situation we have right now (at the higher levels, anyways).

My only worry with that is what if there is a significant bug in the new version that you havnt been able to spot before releasing the game?

Unless you can get the game out a few weeks before the movie comes out, there'll be no chance to fix any problems before the masiv influx of new fans.

I think a working though not perfect old version of the game is vastly more preferable when the new blood comes than a game that either has a major bug that put people off, or that isnt even running cuase ryan has had to switch it off to stop it eating the bandwidth.

Otherwise, cool, cant wait!

Weapon: Diffraction Sword
I think OS will get things rolling soon enough. Don't forget, he's only been at this for two weeks, and this is not his primary job...or even a paid gig at all I think.

So, for those of you who aren't programmers, imagine this: Go read a 300 page book, then read the addendum to the book explaining things in the book, then be asking to rewrite the book by adding full new sections, or rewriting existing ones. Thats basically what OS has to do first: understand the code, look through all the code AND the backend database, read all the programming comments, THEN finally start modifying. So he will need time, and I'm sure he is just trying to tidy up things that are purely broken first, like the alt rotation and the performance bars. Then I'm sure he'll go after things that are "broken" like the weapons system. (Thats what I would do at least.)

Either way, he'll get it done. So instead of complaining about what the next incarnation of the game will be named, how about give OS some input on what you are hoping/looking for in the weapons category?

I am not responsible for the problems everyone has had with this game over the last several years so I am not wounded at all. Just shooting straight with everyone.

I have gotten the summaries back up, restocked the weapons and you will have your alt rotator next week. Why should I defend myself against onslaughts of accusations time and again on this board after having been on this for only 10 days???

You people can trust me or not. It is up to you.

I'm with the guy. I mean I FINALLY got to get my hands on a dol-laser rifle so I feel up to speed with the game again. I also tried buying some battle blades, only to fail with insufficient funds.

Never the less, seeing a fixed weapon system would be nice over the alts. I mean my bot got killed in 2 hits from a guy with battle blades, and I had 2 tons of iron on me!

I agree, I'm sick of the mistry about new things installed "surprise"how many of does surpise did we get from glyph and how many working without a glitch? none!! The new weaponssysteem needs to be tested. Glyph sayed he always tested his upgrades before installing them in hmw, and it went almost every time wrong, every time we got something new something else got broken but never fixed. Os great job on restoring the stats. I think we first need to start working all the bugs out of the game before installing something new.Like the details link to the performce summary. Glyph did some good things for the game, but most of the time he was just blowing smoke, or imstalled stuff that was later removed because it didn't work. Sorry OS, but i my eyes you will need to prove yourself, before i started believing in "V2" because lets be real i have been hearing about V2 being installed everyone xp restet for over 4 years now and it gets tiring. And Burn stop kissing ass already you are already part of the supportstaff or is that the reason why you stand up for OS because your opion is being heard in a closed forum??!!

I just typed up this nice long response. But you know what? You're not worth it.

If you have a problem with me being on the support staff then I suggest you take your concerns to Ryan. I'm there because I was asked to be there but if people feel my presence on the support staff is a negative factor for the game i'll happy step aside and let someone who can do a better job (you perhaps NS?) have a go.

Trust me. I don't agree with everything OS has done and i've had no trouble letting him know that.

Completely uncalled for.

If you want to form a little anti-OS faction please do it now and get it over with (you may have already done so to which I couldn't care less). My job will not be affected in the least. Go ahead and isolate yourself from the sole developer of this game because of how it was managed before I came on board.

I don't think anyone's actually questioning your qualifications for the job Burn.

The problem is, as I said, you are privy to info that is allaying most of your concerns and bolstering your confidence in the situation. The other players do not have much of this intel however, so such confidence and exuberence from a typically cynical player comes off as ... odd?

I don't know if any of the alt mode ire is aimed in my direction, I hope not. If my post in the Priorities thread was taken as me complaining about alt modes that was not my intention. I was just trying to point out one of the problems that OS might have to deal with in an attempt to alert the guy ahead of time since the subject had not been mentioned before in the thread. Later I see Burn had discussed it on the Support Staff board.

So again, I apologize if it was taken as complaining. I was looking forward to the new weapons. Just trying to help out OS.

Could someone please explain to me the difference between:

A) Not wanting your Alternate Mode lost because you've got a decent XP-earning set up for the sake of weapons adjustment.

And...

B) Not wanting your XP lost because you've got a decent XP-earning set up for the sake of the progression of the game?

Now, besides the glaring SIZE difference of the issues, I don't see much else. It's a similar argument, just varying in size.

So Lucky, before you go harping on myself and the few others that wanted to keep their Alternate modes, remember that you were raising similar arguments when you were under the impression that you were going to lose something precious to you as well. Just think about it. That's all I'm saying.

Well, my shrine to you is complete OS! All i need to do now is light the candles i crafted from own earwax and "V2" (or whatver nifty name it will be known to us by) will be here in no time!

I know as a (very) low lvl player my opinion is relatively unimportant, but i am extremely excited to see what the future of this game holds. Whether that be a reset of xp, stats or a full wipe i am up for the challenge of starting afresh with some new rules to try and figure out. However I do realise that my time investment is tiny compared to many others, so i have far, far less to lose. Theres not much that can be done about this.... as they say, you can please some of the people all of the time etc.

Either way, I'm liking all you've done so far OS, even if i missed the weapon restock :-P
