The way I said it it may have come across like that. But it's not quite how I intended it.
I just feel that all custom faction symbols should be a "reward" of sorts.
On one hand I don't think it's fair that someone goes to the effort of coming up with an idea for a faction symbol, having it made up, and then being made available to all. Kinda loses the prestige a bit.
But on the other hand, I see it as people being dedicated to the game and having that dedication shown.
And if you make the custom faction logos as rewards then people can "wear" them and display them with pride and stand out from the rest of their faction.
I mean we have certain alts that are rewards so why not faction symbols?
And I can't see there being much animosity amongst members if Player A creates the faction symbol and Player B uses it. Player B would obviously choose to use it because they like it, so they would obviously have something in common with Player A so they should get along.
Besides, Player A shouldn't really get upset, if they give permission to the powers-that-be then they give them the right to use it any way they see fit. Of course if it's used in a derogatory manner then Player A can get upset, but if they don't like a certain person using it then they need to accept that they gave permission for it to essentially be public domain.
Look at the CATalyst alt, it was based on my character and my kitbash, the alt mode icon was created by (I think, apologies to anyone else if i'm wrong here) Mkall. I liked it, I pushed for it's inclusion and it was included. I didn't like Mkall's categorisation of it and said so and Mkall took that on board and changed it. But if someone's using it that I don't like then I can't jump up and down and say "I want that alt mode removed because so-and-so is using it and I hate their guts and want them to die!" because I wanted it included in the game for all to use.
So yeah, all that babbling aside, people submitting custom faction symbols need to accept that however they're implemented (preferably as rewards to mark achievements) that they're in the game for anyone to gain access to.
And I really don't see why people who make the effort to play the game and to achieve things shouldn't be entitled to "show off". If that's the case then all those plans for a rankings system should be abandoned (if it hasn't been already)
