Weapon: Fusion Cannon
Well, the movie people have been listening to us a little at least. For example:

TF Movie Crew: That's a jet, it must be Starscream.
We Whiney Bitchestm: Why does he look like a gorilla?
TFMC: That car's yellow. Gotta be Bumblebee. He'll be the human liaison.
WWBtm: Who the **** sends a mute ambassador to a foreign nation?
TFMC: Our stupid audience won't be able to tell who the bad guys are from our plot. I mean, hell, half the fans of this crap still collect toys for Christ's sake! Let's club them over the head with the fact that Megatron and the other Decepticons are monsters by making them MONSTERS!!
Guinness guys: BRILLIANT!!
TFMC: That's a red and blue semi. That'll be Optimus.
WWBtm: Umm, why does he look like a fish? I mean, I get the idea that his new face is supposed to be the Autobot symbol, but that doesn't really look like Prime to us...
TFMC: FINISH YOUR MACARONI PICTURES!!! We let you have Cullen. You will now be tolerant. You are a bunch of whiney bitches!! We don't like your critism or agree with your ideas so you must be an idiot and should be talked down to and ridiculed.

Special thanks to Hasbro for letting this crap get by in the first place.

Edit: Just so my position is clear, I've rolled with the punches everytime new crap has been foisted upon us. I've been defending this movie with friends, co-workers, fans and non-fans alike. Why? Because Prime was a constant. I could point to a poster and point at Prime and say, 'Because he's still there. That's why this is going to be a Transformers movie.' But between this faceplate crap, and Prime saying things like 'My bad!!' or 'I can read the Engrish now' or 'Peace love dope' or whatever **** halfassed retard line that comes out of his mouth, I can't even identify the most iconic character in the mythos with a straight face anymore. I'll point at the poster now and say, 'He's called Optimus, and that's not his real face in the movie. That poster's just to fool you into going into the movie. He also talks like he fell out of a 13 year olds' fan fiction. His truck mode looks like a redneck just discovered airbrushing.'

All hail Emperor Galvatron!!!!...

And yes as someone pointed out, my sig and avatar has a mouth, and thats becasue this type of Bot has a mouth...does that mean that Shockwave has an actual face though, behind the cycloptic helmet?? its not the same..

some TF characters have mouths and actual faces, thats the beauty of it, there are different engineering styles from Cybertron, emphasizing different races and cultures..

some look like prime and have a face plate as a mouth, obviously soundwave is from that section of Cybertron..

whereas others like Shockwave have one eye, and there's a guy in the movie game that looks like that...so he must be from the same region, or factory of cybertron too..

and still megatron and Ironhide must have come from the same area becasue they have humanistic faces.. its the beauty of showing that on Cybertron there are many different types of technology running around...

and who knows in their individual cultural beliefs and for religous or customary reasons a face plate could be a symbol of power..or optimus prime's head is built as a commander head..take your pick, its the imagination and mysteriousness thats lost when a mouth was placed beneath the face plate...

"like giving Wolverine an origin story"

After that, the speculations about the origin of cybertronian differences became a moot point, and ultimately took out some cool concepts of different robot races/engineering...

Cybertron is supposed to be a melding of engineering differences, like 10 different highly trained robot designers, each makes a different robot type and yet they are all equal in their own way...

In a way, its a better reflection of our world, with different races, colors, and creeds, and yet we all work together and are seperated into our own individual causes.. in the Transformers case its good versus Evil..But giving Prime a Mouth plate, though making him more relatable to humans, removes the "Race" idea from the overall mix and makes Cybertron less human, since prime's the forefront guy for the autobots his difference would have kept that speculation..but not now..

Heres my photoshoped image..once again..trying to make sense out of chaotic crap from ILM..

Image

Ofcourse they can do no wrong over at ILM, they did Star Wars..right??? arrogance makes even the mightiest empires fall...

I'm over it, it doesn't matter anymore... but it is, and will always be, quite amusing that Bumblebee has a gascap for a mouth, yet prime (the bot we expect to have the faceplate) has lips "to help him emote"... I just wish the writers and designers would stop blowing smoke up our skirts about their design decisions. Face it, everything was done the way it was because they thought it was "cool". There are too many contradictions in these new designs to argue otherwise.

You know in all honesty, I'm just tired about this whole movie thing. I'm tired of all the debating, I mean really G1 purists, they stopped caring about what you think as soon as production started. If you're that ticked about it, don't go... If they really cared, you think Starscream would've looked like THAT?! And I'm tired of the Opinion Police, who ALWAYS have to evoke the, "It's just a movie based on stupid toy/comic/cartoon" defense, or feel the need to get overly defensive when a diehard fan expresses discontent. Yeah, come up with a new defense guys, it's two years past old.

I'm not pleased with a lot of the decisions of this film, but I'm going to give it a try, the same way, I gave Robots in Disguise, Beast Machines, and Armada, a try... hey, at least it keeps the brand alive.

I think it's funny how much the stubborn fanboys bitch. For god's sake, this is a TRANSFORMERS MOVIE!! Live action!! You should be jumping up and down dancing with your TF toys. Just the fact that this movie is being made is reason for celebration. But you guys are getting worked up over what... Lips and Visors!? Jesus christ, the Transformers were never going to look like the G1 versions. That would have looked silly and ridiculous in a live action movie. (This from a fan who loves all things Transformers.) The whole reason for the new looks is to make something accessable for everyone, so this movie will make millions instead of the couple thousand from the fans who go see it. And it's not like Prime is completely without a mask, he'll have one when he goes into battle.

So all you whiny fanboys: SHUT THE **** UP!!!! Bay wants to make this cool and successful, not another flop like the cartoon movie.

You are so gonne get seriously reamed up the ass for telling the "fanboys" to shut up.

THe open debate is perfectly fine, people can voice their displeasure as they see fit. I too think its a very minor thing that is being discussed but as you can see from the 22 paged before this I am in a minority and by telling everyone to shut the f up isnt going to help sway anyone to your opinion.

Oh really? So I guess then we will be looking at his mouth during the fight? Well in that case we don't need faceplate at all.I'm not gonna stare at Prime's face while he is fighting damn it! Why are we bitching about faceplate and flames on Optimus because it's just a tiny detail? Well if it's a tiny detail why the hell did they put it on the first place! Optimus needs to show emotions? WTF, he is an alien robot, what will he do, cry? The feeling of Prime not beeing himself is at presence. I just got this horrible feeling that he won't be a badass from the cartoon. I hate the fact that part where Prime says '' My bad'', it reminds me of E.T. movie where that alien began speaking some lines from the human world and that sucs. And speaking of change, I don't see other Heroes changed much. Spiderman and Hulk stayed to their original self so why Transformers couldn't?
I agree that designs are looking like all the garbage from the world united to form a few robots. Their designs are not bad at all when you look at the toys, who look fantastic at one hand but in the movie, to me, they are somehow different. Don't know, maybe when I see them ''slowly'' in the movie it will change. And I don't like that some robots who have mouth don't have in the movie, why did they changed that? But with all these things that I don't like will not stop me from looking at the movie. From what I have seen on trailers there will be some good fights and despite the flows, in general I'm still waiting for this movie with huge excetmeent. Whateve the case I'm sure that Bay will do a good job overal.

Well, maybe because the whole "F*cking with icons" things is subjective and open to opinion.

I have yet to see anything that "f*cks" with the icons.

I wasnt around for the other shows (the anime style ones with the minibots), but did people complain this much when prime became a f.iretruck and had no blue on him from what I recall. To me thats more of a change to an "ICON" than putting some flames on him which in his altmode helps him blend with other big rigs on the road as well as having a part time mouth.

Edit: hehe (F)iretruck starts with an F and ends with K so the filters picked it up,

i've yet to see a flaming rig in my part of the world, but hey, maybe they have plenty of them in hollywood. Or maybe that's just a leftover setpiece from "2 fast 2 furious"

as for the fire truck thing...i don't think most fans of G1 didnt know/care about that incarnation. I saw it once and was like "wtf?"

I see one almost every day, including this morning on my way to work, even in the suburbs. This argument is pretty weak. A lot of trucks in the USA (where the movie takes place) have flames. End of story.

The mask, well, they could have kept the mask.

lmao.....maybe if the movie was set in Mexico:)

I will have to check. I DO remember seeing a magazine for fancy big-rigs somewhere. I'm not totally against the flames, I'd just like a lil more red:) But, it's not about reality really...it's what the designers thought would look cool. I'm sure when they presented the designs to production, nobody piped up and said "hey that's not realistic!"

I don't see how you can site the Transformers movie from the 80s as a flop, it hit its target market...Kids!!
And there generally isn't too much money made from kids movies, unless it crosses into the teens and adults market, and since there were no Transfans or adult fans in 1986, it makes todays transformers movie a lot different.. those kids in the 1980s who loved transformers are now adults with kids.. the market has changed..just because Michael Bay is doing this movie, and its in Live action doesn't make everything they haev done thus far, golden, even if it makes alot of money, it doesn't mean they did every thing right, it just means everyone wanted to see what they did.. and the real test of a director and the changes he has made comes from the sequels...

But then again, michael Bay is the first self professed, I'm the coolest guy" director.. so we'll see..

Personally Sam Raimi, though Tim Burtonish, is a true director who knows what people want, love Spiderman 3, or hate it, it made Miliions!!!

Imagine this... It is the year 2005 and Christopher Nolan is about to release the first new Batman movie in years. We find out that Nolan has cast Gilbert Gottfried as Bruce Wayne and that Batman's costume is now hot pink with high heels and the Batmobile is now a UPS parcel delivery truck missing a wheel.

But nobody should complain, everybody should just be happy that they're getting a new Batman movie.

I, for one am a huge supporter of this movie, and will be seeing it multiple times. I have accepted and liked the designs (except Starscream, but, it'll do) up to this point, and I have become sick and tired of so many people bitching and complaining about this movie and how it's going to suck, so if you want to be happy with your own perfect TF movie I have a tiny bit of advice for you...DO IT YOURSELF!!! Just a thought. :-? :-x

Yeah but thats different, RID Optimus Prime became an icon in himself, due to the fact that he was a fire truck, and the fact that he came out just as the 911 attacks hit us hard here in the USA..

so it heightened his form and made him an icon to the masses..not to mention his design was very close to G-1 in some respects and beast wars, and the coolest thing ever..

he could combine with Ultra Magnus and become a super badass!!! I still think that version of Prime, regardless of the cartoon being like pokemon, was one of the best Optimus Prime designs I had ever seen, besides the original..and just to let you know, the fire truck Prime had blue on him, though in small amounts it was there.. see below:

you know what, honestly If prime was made into this in the Live action movie, I wouldn't complain so much, as long as spike wasn't in it, cause thats a clear G-1 move!!! And also why a mouth shouldn't be on the optimus Prime in this movie..
the flames, i can deal with..

Plus he was a combiner:

I mean come one, ultra magnus was just plain out badass!!

Maybe that analogy is a little extreme, but it's nonetheless true. I seem to remember back in 2003-4 when they announced a new Superman movie staring Nicolas Cage as Superman wearing a black and silver costume. Something changed, eh?

I seem to think that movies made by a fan can appeal to the general public AND fanboys. I don't know if Superman was all that big of a hit, but it looked fantastic. I would think that the Spiderman franchise, which was a movie made by a fan, is a good point of being a successful movie that appeals to fans and makes new ones.

The first Batman came out, and the costume had changed a little, but we all knew who batman and Joker was. It was an excellent movie that appealed to all. Then they made the sequels trying to be EXACTLY like the comics. Those movies really sucked and now they've come back to the Tim Burton style. Batman rocks now. Spiderman rocks. X-Men...never been a fan so I can't comment, but I liked their new costumes.

Moral: Change is ok, as long as its not so drastic that it's unapealing. Being EXACTLY like the cartoons/comics would be unapealing, and so is calling the monkey-monster, drag queen Optimus, and garbage disposal Megs a "Transformer." Even my cat wont go near that starscream protoform in my house!
Fans should make movies. I'm sure there is a director out there who thought Transformers were cool back in the 80s, or at least understands them.

I like the change between the face plate during battle and mouth during peace times. I think the mouth is needed because if prime had a speaker for a mouth you do realize that the metal plate would muffle his voice not enhance it.

The small changes to prime isn'ta bad thing especially since this isn't a G1 movie. Prime has had like 20 versions of himself. They could have made prime a sports car ya know or some hybrid space 18 wheeler.
All i can say is Fan boys are a scarey lot. Ya'll love to bitch and moan about everything. If it looked like a CGI cartoon folks would bitch why see this movie i can just re watch the cartoon at home..

Hey, UPS trucks are cool.
