ROBOT REVIEW

 IRONHIDE'S DEAD! :D Yeah, he was killed, maybe 40 minutes into the film. He died with epicness, no lie, with a hole through his chest, rusting up, and his head rolling off into the streets. Sentinel Prime, how could you do this to all Ironhide fans!!! Anyway, total G1 homage in his death, shot in the chest a few times. "What have you done..." ~Ironhide's last words. Rust in peace....

Ratchet, err, he did have a significant role, I don't think it was any greater than ROTF. I mean, you see... he got enough time to call him a main character, but really it wasn’t that much. More so than ROTF, which makes me happy.

I'm really not looking forward to seeing Ironhide die. :( I'm a bit confused though - how can you say Ratchet had a "significant role" but no greater than in ROTF? He was hardly in the last movie at all. He only appeared in a small handful of scenes and only had maybe 3 lines of dialogue.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this yet. Wheelie was watching the original Star Trek at the beginning and mentions, oh this episode where Spock goes crazy. I heard rumors of Sentinel being the main villain, this cemented it was going happen for me as it was waaay tooo much foreshadowing. I honestly dislike them having another evil prime after the Fallen in the second film. Which having Megatron stand up to him at the end is what should have happened in the last film. With Ironhide dead, it sucked that the autobots had even fewer heavy hitter yet with Sentinel being with the enemy.

I didn't care for the Decepticons main crew being gutted. While I get Bay probably wanted to clean house and end with the series with a bang, I felt like Megatron rebuilding Cybertron would probably been the best outcome as Megatron ultimately always been a patriot of his world, and was willing set aside his differences with Prime to save it. Who knows what the heck they'll use since they wasted all known potential leaders since Shockwave was menacing silent grunt number 7. (might as well been Sixshot, but I guess they wanted a red herring to mislead fans from Sentinel being the main villain.)

Starscream got a rather lame death. Starscream really should have died at the hands of one of the Autobots.

The ultimate doom 2.0 plan seemed far too fragile. I mean one pillar is wrecked and it all ends. Having this being another scheme Megatron had planned to use on Earth that long ago seems really odd. There wasn't 7 billion humans back when the war was raging. I guess he just called the plan a bust, and went on to other plans till his first 2 plans went up in flames.

It also opens the whole deal of Soundwave and Laserbeak had been on Earth since the 60s. How come they waited till recently to start looking for the all spark or the harvester? Having so many seeds in the past mucks up it's own continuity quite a bit. Rotf the fallen just the second movies plans an extension of the first movies. This doesnt fit in at all, and like how many deals has Megatron made with the Primes over the years? No wonder Megatron thought he could make a deal with Optimus...all rest were able to be bought off.

I attended an early screening, here in Canada, last night and thought the movie DELIVERED.

There were a few parts of the film that dragged on, and I don't mind a long film, however, they should have filled in this time with more Soundwave, Megatron or even autobots..

I felt Star Scream being killed Sam was just fine, I mean after all it helped to go with the story - Sam feels unwanted, disrespected for all he has done.

I have read people felt Megatron's end scene with Prime was rushed and some what agree, however, how much more Prime vs Megatron could we handle..I felt Prime versus Sentinel was perfect and epic in every way..

The people complaining about Optimus Prime not showing mercy, I mean I hear ya, need to remember this is Bay's work, this is a movie and not the G1 cartoon..so the other people who justified Prime's actions are right..

Did anyone enjoy Rosie's derriere by the way? lol..

None the less the film, like any movie, had some weak points - such as not enough interaction with Laser Beak and Soundwave (would have loved to see Laser Beak come back with some in tel and fold into a cassette like the old days), too much Megatron sitting on a building (although his first scene was epic)..

But aside from some small imperfections, I really think Michael Bay did a great job, I truly believe this is the best one..the comedy was perfect, not too much just enough, the parents were in the movie but Bay did not excessively use them..and the action and special effects were out of this world..

I know everyone feels this could have been done or that could have been done, sometimes myself included, but when you look at just as some people have said - it's truly a treat that Bay created these movies for the fans, for non-fans etc..he did good to the Transformers saga and he's left his mark in one of the best franchises ever..

Just a few things I want to say because there are plenty of full reviews...

Do I remember correctly? Did Megatron say he was suppose to rendezvous with Sentinel on Earth? So the escape was all choreographed and Earth planned as THE spot? I don't know how Megatron could know Earth was the meeting spot unless somehow The Fallen informed him of it. Autobots know nothing of Earth according to Optimus.

Everything almost seems like a retcon of the first 2 movies. That's the only prob I have with it and that I can't seem to justify with anything yet other than time traveling with the fallen. He's suppose to be ancient so the whole battle of the Primes happened on earth in 10,000 BC earth time but ancient cybertronian time. Time goes on, Sentinel agrees with Megatron to find another planet to enslave because they can't build anymore Star Harvesters (no key)? Then I guess when Sentinel (assuming he did not mean to get shot while escaping) disappeared, Megatron went after the Allspark instead after it got jettisoned? What do you guys think?

AND Skids and Mudflap CAN be seen in alt form (tho they can be decoys/not TFs though they are in line with all the other Autobots when they are pulling into NEST (same scene as in the trailer))

On a side note, who here thinks we will be lucky to get maybe one more movie or even more?

I really hope if we do get another movie..we will see Galvatron, hopefully Omega Supreme and so forth - but who knows..

I also think they will find a way to resurrect some of the decipticons if they do make another..

Also, didn't Megatron crash land on earth thousands of years ago? But he was meant to meet up with Sentinel in 1961?

Sentinel said his machine could make travel through space and TIME possible, so it is possible that when the Ark got blasted, the machine malfunctioned, and made a small time-jump.

I'm assuming that losing the Allspark was never part of the plan. After Sentinel vanished (which is a fairly long time before Optimus jettisons the Allspark), the whole plan of enslaving humans was probably laid to rest. Similarly, there was no need to invoke the DOTM plan when Megs and the Fallen thought they could solve their problems with the harvester in ROTF.

Was anyone hoping we would hear Bumblebee actually speak..for a few moments in the film I thought that was going to happen..

Bay should have at least done that, some heartfelt dialogue between him and Shia..

I was also expecting some more friction between Starscream and Megatron..

It was sick to see Optimus Prime flying and using some knucks..

It seems like Sentinel being shot down was not intentional. He was on his way to Earth (I think?) at the time. After that, Optimus becomes leader of the Autobots, and we know it then takes quite a while before he jettisons the Allspark. Thus, Sentinel vanished long before Megatron pursued the Allspark.

@ Cheesinator

Sorry but I have to disagree with you about the ending. I enjoyed how Optimus lost it; went on a killing rampage! Put yourself in his shoes. He was betrayed by his mentor (had his right arm ripped off by Sentinel for Pete-sake AND almost got decapitated by him too!), PLUS, having members of your team killed, due to your mentor's betrayal. How would you feel? To me, it was a fitting end to Megatron and Sentinel Prime!

Megatron, for being the power hungry MOFO that he was... he let his pride get the best of him thanks to what Carly said to him. PRIDE and EGO blinded him thus, was his downfall (even though it was true that he was becoming Sentinel's BIATCH!). Lastly, Sentinel getting the SH*** blown out of him by Optimus for being a deceiving, heartless individual.

In all, I enjoyed the movie from start to finish. There were no "slow" moments... It was none stop action. A great SUMMER ACTION MOVIE!!! Looking forward to seeing it again and again!

The visual and sound effects companies BETTER get an OSCAR for this movie!

I absolutely loved the movie. :BOT: I thought the action was detailed and crisp. There were creative transformations. The acting wasnt unbearable...it was pretty good...i was surprised by how well carly's character worked. I was impressed by how sams character grew and "manned up" during the course of the movie. I felt this movie met my expectations and exceeded them. It is worth the money and i'll get two when it comes out on dvd since I dint get ROTF. Enjoy the movie seibertronians!!

p.s. I think they purposely made ROTF a piece of crap so this movie would be that much better by comparison :BOT:

First of all, I liked DOTM and will see it again (tons of info to digest in 2.5 hrs). But it may not be better than Transformers ('07). It was better than ROTF, but seemed a little incohesive and rushed, especially the end. Ends so abruptly too. As I've said a million times, they should've waited 3 yrs. in between movies - not 2.

Quick gripes:

1) Not enough Megatron!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even in his weakened state, such a major character should've gotten more screentime + lines

2) Sentinel Prime -- a noble autobot leader & mentor of Prime would never be so malicious and harm humans, let alone Ironhide. It may seem cheesy, but a brain-control or memory override plot device would've worked much better. (I say this not knowing much about the actual backstory/comic history of this character)

3) Why didn't they show or even hint at the autobot's escape of the shuttle?

4) The jump forward in time after Sentinel first uses the spacebridge in Chicago to bring fighters & ships was not handled well. Pretty abrupt.

5) Lastly, what happened to Wheelie & Brains? Did they live or not? The ship crashed, but did not explode. Wth?

ok

first off its a 7 out of 10 for me

It worked better than the previous two movies. Bay did do some things which i liked.

- G1 scheme

- more serious, more death,. higher threat level.

- Wreckers were treated with respect, and true to their origins, the guys who go into front line and get job done.

- seemed to be some depth in the movie which could have been explored further, like dempsey's sense of being born into the role rather than choosing it, and megatrons motivation not being just to be uber evil.

- wheelie and brains were all the comic relief that was needed

- the execution of Q

- the mercy shown by sideswipe and ironhide to the cons

- liked the fact they showed sams difficulty in adjusting back to normal life, it felt real

The issues

- the tone was uneven. Every excellent scene was followed by a ridiculous comedy scene. At times i was like saying wtf when the humour appeared

- shockwave, what was the point. Another character who was used just for the name.

- the ending was stunted and rushed, like Rotf

- the jibes at megan fox. childish and pathetic

- the emphasis on humans. the battle scene in chicago, was way too human focused. at one point when they were in the building, it felt like 20 minutes without seeing an autobot. and then we see they have been captured. would rather watch that then what we saw. It seemed like an alien invasion movie rather than transformers

- ironhides death. It was powerful when he died, but no reaction from anyone. This is Hide, a long loved character by many, primes right hand man, and not even a moment of loss from the bots.

- shia was quite disappointing and very annoying

Carly does have a conversation w/ Megatron where she reminds him that he will be Sentinel's bitch when this is all over and done with. I won't spoil the results of that comment for those who haven't seen it.

And yes, there was a transformation sequence towards the end. And I think it was Bumblebee.

So many reactions already! I went to see DOTM yesterday and am a very happy dork today. I know a LOT has been said so far, so I'll just say that Megatron had some epic scenes. His arrival in the movie on the savannah and those little Scalpels running around in his skull, just awesome.

I got a bit of a kick out of Megatrons (sort of) insanity. The final scene with Sentinel, Optimus and Megs, with the latter off his nut and Nimoy's voice... Galvatron goodness.

Unfortunately, you're looking for a dramatic film in an action film. With a cast of characters so large and a heavy focus on explosions et al something has to give. Unfortunately, you're probably in a minority when it comes to character development being high on the list. Let's be honest, no one is going to this looking for nominations for Best Screenplay. It's a summer blockbuster. Whether or not you're complaints are valid (and having not seen the film I cannot say, though I have an inkling) I think they are misdirected.

But do you see that if it had that drama AND the action, it would be altogether a better movie?

I saw it tonight and I enjoyed it but there were many moments that were rather pointless. If that time would have been used to further develop the Autobots', and especially Prime's, motivation it would have made more of an impact as a film.

I see it, which is why I'm not gonna see it (so to speak). But what should be rarely translates to what is. Unfortunately, the world is too full of people who think "explosions… cool! plot… boring…" Fortunately, for them, Michael Bay will continue to make movies, if not TF ones (fortunately, hopefully, for us).

I think it was more the realization that he was getting the short-end of the stick than caring what she thought.

The real Megatron would killed her, then killed Sentinel Prime, then probably take a couple shots at Optimus Prime as well.

That's a point, actually. Megs beat the hell out of Sentinel but spared him, and then made no attempt to kill Optimus either. And this is after he got shouted down by a human while sitting down and admiring the scenery!

Losing half his brain made him go seriously soft.

"The notion that most TF fans are unfit and slow is a common misconception. Watch when a new figure is revealed that isn't based on a G1 design, and you'll see a sizeable detachment of them sprinting to their keyboards to type "easy pass" so quickly it'll make your head spin."
