SS-86 Megatron Speculation
Posted by Overcracker Mon Mar 04, 2024 2:47 pm
Almost certainly:
1. Must at least scale with the also coming Commander Class Prime.
2. Will be a tank of some kind.
Things he should have:
1. Prime Killing gun.
2.Blast effects for fusion cannon and prime killing gun?
3. Damaged chest and face options?
Things it would be nice if he came with but may not come with or will almost certainly not come with.
1. Energy Sowrd
2. Gun stock, silencer and base to man. (not likely nut one can dream)
3. Small gun version that SS-86 Starscream can hold. (Likely the one from the Centurion weapons pack)
4. Non mentioned hidden gun mode it can be transformed into? would any one want this?

I have nothing to base this on other than one recent and a couple somewhat recent figures: CC Prime, Leader Springer, and now this new SS86 Megatron will all be slightly taller, basically matching Kingdom/Legacy Galvatron in height. This will make Springer as tall as SS86 Wreck-gar (if not slightly taller), and all of them scale a bit better with CC Ultra Magnus. Plus this will have these larger characters scale better with most of the smaller characters.
I don't care about this new Megatron's alt mode, so I haven't really put much thought into it. When you think about Megatron's parts, a tank does make sense, but again, it won't matter much either way.
I'm guessing he will come with a small gun of himself for other Decepticons to hold/use. I would think this would be a guarantee considering the alt mode can't be a gun.
I'm also assuming the extra gun and energy sword/light saber would be included as well as at least one smaller blast effect.
Damaged parts wouldn't surprise me, but at the same time, I don't think it's all that effective of a look when it's only a couple pieces. Even the MP doesn't pull this off well.
In a bit of other news, I think it was only rumored at first, but I saw JTPrime has confirmed a listing for a SS86 Bumblebee.
I'm pretty happy about this news.

I have an idea for how we could get a G1 Megatron with a weapon altmode without needing to be a Walther P-38.
While he had that particular altmode in the G1 cartoon, there was another cartoon where we had a G1 Megatron that turned into a gun, but which was not a Walther P-38.

Here me out.
As bad as the Machinima Prime Wars Trilogy was (and it was, objectively, BAD), it is generally agreed that Megatron was the main (if not the only) bright spot of the whole trilogy. And in this cartoon, he was a triple-changer with a robot mode, and tank mode, and a futuristic sci-fi "blaster mode". Perhaps they could twist and contort the logic of SS86 being based on this Megatron design since the Machinima cartoon also used a sort of twisted and contorted logic to pretend that it was sorta-kinda a pseudo-sequel to the G1 cartoon and its movie, with the characters referring to events similar to those of TFTM (like, Megatron and Optimus recall how Megatron killed Optimus at some point in the past).
I know, I know, it's not really the same continuity as the G1 cartoon and its movie, but it sure wanted to pretend that it was.
Anyway, a Leader class budget would enable the triple-changer gimmick to give him both his tank and blaster modes, or at least just his blaster mode since a fair budget would be needed just for that alone.
But, I hear you say, Siege Shockwave required extra bits to hide his "futuristic sci-fi blaster mode" by making it resemble a space battleship Yamato, but the new Marvel-colored version is nixing those parts and leaving his altmode as it is.
So while a Walther P-38 isn't in the cards, perhaps this could be.
...
Aw, who am I kiddin'? This ain't likely to happen.

It truly could be a pseudo "spaceship". I would say vehicle, but there's not need to add any sort of wheels into the mix.
And now that I have thought about it a bit, I would go with a spaceship over a tank; the bot mode has no need for treads. Heck even the idea of the alt mode for Animated Shockwave... Since it can't be a gun, it doesn't matter what it is.
I hope Hastak grabs onto this (not meaning literally from this post), because the less the alt mode is a design concern, the less the bot mode will have to compromise.
Even with accessories, I can't help but be hyping this up in my mind...
Similar to a specific shot of Swoop from the movie that imo completely captures what that character should look like, the same goes for Megatron... I truly hope Hastak can capture his face and head sculpt this time around. Something the ER figure failed at miserably.

Appart the double-dippers and the clear-o-phobes, SS86 Blaster is mainly for those who missed out on the original... The first 2 times it was released.

It's probably a good thing because the only reason I would want this is for Eject, I actually prefer this deco over the transparent version. Total D* move Hasbro...
I wish that they would just release a Cassette 4-pk so that I could get a normal version of both!

You know what, I'm kind of with you, should have just released it as a Leader and done that.
Though I suspect Target had some say in what/how it was packaged considering it's an Exclusive otherwise they could have just released it main line. Because in all honesty this isn't much different than the previous Voyager release, packaging and Eject aside. Could have took the chance to offer something significantly different.
That aside, who's left that could be repackaged for SS86? Probably VW Bee tops my list, but it seems most of the others would have to be the "damaged" versions which is unfortunate because it would have been nice to have regular Prowl released. I'd suggest Soundwave too if it was a new mold, same for Astrotrain.

The base cassette is gang-molded with the main bot. So if you want a Rewind, you must have a Twincast.
As for the other two, those are yet to be released and will most likely be core class. Still, I wonder if adding two cores in a voyager box would really make the leader price point? I guess it would.
So, a "leader" SS86 Blaster would have been possible this way. Still, there would have be NO Rewind.

Yeah, I'm kinda with you here. As a guy who bought the Kingdom mold I would have grumbled, but I would have been happy to have the whole gang, finally. But we've lapped Eject now and who knows if the rest are on their way?
As for them being molded together, these are done with computer programs, right? Just dupe the files. Redo the mold for Rewind. If you're gonna make Ramhorn and Steeljaw anyway you may as well. Unless there's another way to release Rewind I don't see it.

By that point they may as well just design a new figure like they did Rumble and Frenzy and I think we all know Hasbro can't resist doing Eject and Rewind again in a couple years.
