They did. It was Platinum Edition Unicron.

Well, 3rd time the charm!
Add in some extra stuff to make it a "titan" like that planet mode stand and maybe some other thingamagings.
That mold is extremely degraded from so many uses. The Encore release barely even holds together.

I was an idiot and didnt back HasLab Unicron. But it would have been really tight to fit in my budget at the time and that played into it most.

I have been half watching out for one of the Ark Unicrons for many years now, just not found one at a good price. Have him be a kinda Unicron avatar. Guess I need to actually pay attention and gets one.

My issue was space to display it properly plus I had already backed a few of the Jabba's Barge.
And in truth at the time I wasn't that into Transformers yet enough to pay almost $600 for one. Looking back I wish that I had just went all in and backed it, from all the pics it truly looks like a masterpiece.

What I did with Unicron was that I went with TFSource instead of Pulse proper. TFSource required only a down payment upfront, while the rest of it I budgeted towards over the course of the years between funding and release, since TFSource didn't charge the remaining final amount until shipping.

Sure, the final price was a bit more expensive than what Pulse was asking for upfront, but budgeting over those intervening years allowed me to save up little by little over time, without having to drop the full amount at a point when I didn't yet have it.

I had a good surprise finding Studio Series 86 Ironhide at a local Target today. A nice addition to my collection.

I got mine in a few days ago and yes, he's a very pleasant surprise. Looks GREAT! Definitely a huge step up from the Earthrise figure and he replaces the Siege figure as my definitive G1 Ironhide. If Hasbro makes Ratchet, I would love it if they made a comic variant with the red helmet and white visor for this mold. It would be perfect.

Hasbro is making Ratchet, we had it in next year's listings. A comic variant would be cool as the use of red on his helmet has become a staple of the character in several versions.

This is the version I want too, for me Ratchet needs that red helmet and white chevron

The arms can be rotated around so the ball of the joints aren’t exposed, right?

Yes. But he has no elbow articulation so the forearms would be backwards as well. But that way he can also hide his folded-in fists. And Eject can wear them. They look better on him because they look like his arms instead of some things he's just holding, like with Rumble. If only Rumble had kept the same arm design, he would have elbow articulation as well. But I guess it wouldn't be totally screen accurate.. ?

I'm glad those that bought him are enjoying Ironhide, but for me the design route they went is a complete dealbreaker and I'll continue to stick to SIEGE til what I consider a "proper" effort is made. I hope Ratchet ends up being a new mold - or a severe retool, if such is possible. Only way I'd buy this mold is as Deseeus.

Dunno if anyone else has said this, but I think the back toe on Sludge's arms/dino hindlegs should have been part of the fist mount, not part of the main body of his forearms. That way it would be tucked away in robot mode and only deployed in dino mode.

Ratchet and Ironhide (almost?) always are the exact same build except for the head. The engineering has a lot in common with Siege and Earthrise. We just got Deseeus with the Earthrise body a few months ago. This might not be perfect, but we don't need a fourth version of these guys in the space of just five years. Be as picky as you want to be, but I wouldn't expect a better option soon. For my part, a new Generations deluxe vanbros mold is at the very bottom of my want list.

1. You're mixing up Deseeus and Selects DK-02. The Deseeus Army Drone came out last March and used the SIEGE version of the tooling.

2. Perhaps this will make it clearer why I think this mold is unfit to be Ratchet unless it can somehow be salvaged with a heavy retool:
Image

As far as I'm concerned, being "Earthrise with an integrated roof" instead of having the Onebox component was a complete and total ripoff waste of the Voyager price point - and a pointlessly overdesigned way of achieving a cartoon-accurate toy when the animation design is basically just the toy's robot mode with the shoulders elevated, the crotch filled in, and a head slapped on. Plus the Onebox components are actually part of the animation models, so excluding them is an accuracy failure on top of the lost play value.

I categorically refuse to spend $30+ for a new Ironhide when SIEGE is already satisfactory for what it is and the extra $10+ above what SIEGE cost won't actually get me anything extra of particular value. I was initially excited, but when they decided to pull this bullcrap instead of giving us the Onebox component and FINALLY completely outmoding the old Tow-Line retools... Argh :BANG_HEAD: :BOOM: It was understandable that they didn't do it at the Deluxe price point, but for a Voyager to be missing it (and to have bent over backward to be missing it) is a complete no-go for me.

In fairness Siege doesn't come with that either. You need to spend more money to get 3P upgrade parts to partsform it every time. And it's still not really close. And to make Siege acceptable you need 3P feet too. That's a lot to spend on already expensive exclusives.

Although probably far less expensive now than they were.

Studio 86 is the final word on these characters for me. They aren't perfect, but sometimes good enough is good enough.

Rumble ... I'm looking forward to getting him. Not too happy about the hole placement on his back. I'm too old, I remember how cassettes look. And I'm annoyed that I'm rebuying a Siege guy again. But it's clearly better. After this, though, I'm done with Rumbles. Bring on Buzzsaw already.

Blows my mind that we got both of Doubledealer's Powermasters and a Wingthing cassette, but no Buzzsaw. It would be nice if they corrected that with another 4-pack including Blaster's animal cassettes, but I don't think that's very likely.

The other thing is, it's not like it's just three guys on Siebertron.com yelling about Buzzsaw, yet they keep just not making him. On the other hand, we're still waiting on Brawn, Gears and Windcharger so there's still hope.

I’m on the fence about Rumble, but I’m very happy I was able to snag the lone Ironhide at my local Target.
I watched one more review recently, and he seems like a really solid figure all around.
Imo he makes the previous 2 versions look like sub-par knock-off’s.
Even though I should be done collecting after this next year, if this subline continues past that, it may be THE reason I periodically cave & but 1 or 2 figures for a couple years beyond ‘23.

You'll have to make do with "spaceship" shockwave ala Siege I'm afraid. Megatron is likely to stick being a tank.
