Yeah, this was my thought as well.

If you want an updated toy design for Jetfire, just track down an Arcadia/Yamato V2 1/60 scale Macross VF-1S Super Valkyrie, try for the Hikaru DYRL version.

If it's an cartoon version, yeah, I can see Takara doing one, but there us simply no way in hell they'll be able to top Fanstoys.

Harmony Gold can't touch Japanese products, that would be entirely up to Bandai. Now if Hasbro wanted to release such a thing over here, then yeah, Harmony Gold would probably pull them back into court. Hasbro should just do us all a favor and buy Harmony Gold, the world would be a much better place. And I'm not just saying that as a Transformers fan, the company is super shady along with their founder. Probably shouldn't be a surprise that HG is mainly a real estate investment developer now.

The Combiner Teams, especially the Scramble City ones, may have another obstacle: licensing. Would it be necessary to get licenses for 20 vehicles at most, depending on the realism of the original G1 toys? I can already give you:

Lockheed Martin / General Dyanmics F-16 Fighting Falcon
McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle
McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom

I don't think I have space for more, but an MP Hoist would sure go well with MP Grapple and UW Devastator.

Blitzwing and Astrotrain seem pretty likely (though they'd need some pretty killer design and engineering to correctly pull off Triple Changing - I think MPs haven't done that before), as does the good ol' Galvy crew. Octane and the Battlechargers seem a bit too off the beaten track though, and I'm not sure about Reflector and the Insecticons unless they were pretty small and hence attracting a smaller price.

I think we can all agree we're not gonna see Masterpiece Combiners or Titans any time soon. At best we get Titan Devastator-style redos of Menasor and Bruticus which both seem rather unlikely - anyone wanting these dudes will have to stick with UW.
That said I do kind of hold to the opinion that if we're to get any Combiner participant in MP, it'll be Swindle. He's far more popular than any other Combiner piece and he's a pretty memorable dude. Moreso than Runabout at least

Hasui said that he had designs for an MP Devastator that never happened, so he used some of it in the CW set. UW04 Devastator fits very nicely with the line.

We've never seen Elita's entire cartoon altmode, so it'd be pretty hard to have a toy made of her that transforms into something that was only ever 50% visible.

We've never seen Elita's entire cartoon altmode, so it'd be pretty hard to have a toy made of her that transforms into something that was only ever 50% visible.

And we never saw the entire back of MP Grapple yet Takara did the "impossible". We rarely took noticed of UMs butt flap and red bumper yet Takara "transformed" them into reality! They retooled the Arcee mold into Chromia who had a boxy mode which they converted into a cycle. Arcee herself was the product of the impossible a few years back. MegaEmpress, who'd have thought Takara would have repurposed her? Etc etc

It's like saying making a cartoon accurate Godginrai is impossible :lol:

What? Grapple's back was visible in the cartoon. In both modes:

So Takara had something to work with in making the backsides of Grapple's MP. But the backside of Elita's vehicle mode, however, was never seen.

Whether WE noticed those or not is irrelevant since that butt flap and red bumper were both visible onscreen.

Its been a while since I looked at my copy but i remember it being pretty comprehensive for what it was.
