So I like this news.

Strax to meet Jago and Litefoot

Great to see the return of Jago and Litefoot. The Talons of Weng Chiang is one of the most memorable of Tom Baker stories, with Jago and Litefoot being in part, responsible for that.

Of course the premise of Strax mistaking them for Vastra and Jenny is no surprise, and while it's only an audio, I might try to track it down as it might be a fun story.

Sooooooooo, I am perpetually late to the part of my own volition. I watched the newest season of Doctor Who on Netflix. This is the only season of New Who that I've liked the majority of, since Eccleston's one season. I like Peter Capaldi as the Doctor way more than Smith or Tennant. I think that the character of the Doctor is more suited to an actor that is over the age of 40, so he doesn't come of as a hipster douche like Smith did. Yes I know I have an bordering on irrational hate-on for Smith. Anyhow, i'll give a quick thoughts on the episodes. Not sure if I have to put spoilers with how old the episodes are but whatever.

Deep Breath: Because I only watched a few episodes of the last two seasons, I didn't really remember Vastra or her crüe, but they were fun enough. Granted I think that there should be more cloak and dagger rather than "ninjas"; but maybe that's something I missed. I'm sure it was set up in the previous but I personally found the Dinosaur aspect superfluous, and I would've preferred if they kept it to creepy clockwork androids. I do wish there were more similar to those of the SS Madame de Pompadour, but it works alright in context. The ambiguity in the end of whether or not the doctor killed was nice; however I do believe the doctor killed the android in some way considering; 5 shot daleks, 6 nearly choked a woman to death, and 7 made the daleks kill themselves.

Into the Dalek: Reminded me of "Dalek" from season 1, and for obvious reasons, especially of the call back of "you would make a good dalek". Interesting episode, and study of how daleks work in a fantastic voyage perspective. There were some on the nose aspects of it, but it was fine.

Robot of Sherwood: It was really, really, really campy and cheesy. I liked it alright except the end, the end sucked. There was nice development between the Doctor and Robin Hood, with really fun character moments between the two. I think if it weren't for the golden arrow, this would've been a decent if cheeseball episode. The end discussion between the doctor and Robin Hood was very well thought out, and very striking how maybe he nor the Doctor are heroes, but maybe they can help inspire others to be.

Listen: Interesting character study of the doctor, and how his mind works. The Doctor really seems to be both the type of person to figure out real conspiracies, and the type of person to forge them to explain something he can't. it has a nice continuity with the first doctor's run.

Time Heist: It reminded me too much of farscape's Liars Guns and Money parts 1-3, sorta. I couldn't stop drawing comparisons between the shadow depository and the Bank of Karabraxos. That's my fault, but other than that it's a decent episode, but it was really obvious that the architect of the heist was the doctor.

The Caretaker: It reminded me of School Reunion, so I was hoping something, something would link to the first doctor's family, but that's my fault again. Anyway, it was funny how everyone thought the doctor was an asshole, unlike 11 and 10 where everyone thought they were the best thing ever. Nice episode that focused on the Doctor, danny and clara. Though that robit was pointless besides to have a plot.

Kill the Moon: **** no.

Mummy on the Orient Express: probably my favorite episode of the entire season, and I wish engineer what's his face became a companion, him and the doctor really good chemistry. The doctor needs to have a few more companions, especially with the 1st doctor references. I kinda miss cap'n Jack honestly. Anyhow, really great episode felt very oldschool who; take something anachronistic, and put in space.

Flatline. Really damn creepy.I kinda dislike Clara the further the season goes on, and the way she acts her is kinda horrible. Is it because she lies? No. Is it because she acts disingenuous? Not really. It's more of, at this rate she should know better, and lying to people to keep them moderately safe, is part of that job. It really conflicts with how she has a problem with lying to people to keep them safe, yet she has no problem lying to danny because reasons.

In the Forest of the Night: It was ****.
Dark Water/Death in Heaven: pretty good season finale. It really paid off to have some pathos with Danny dying a horribly pointless way. As soon as they mentioned the dark water, i figured it had something to do with them sneaky sneaky cybermen. I'll be honest, from minute one of the season, I figured missy was the master. I secretly wished she was omega. No one loves omega. But she's probably the best, modern version of the master. I wished he kept him similar to his first incarnation with the reintroduction in season 3, but this version takes that and makes it better because it's more restrained. Slightly. Also, I don't know her name, but the woman they cast, very striking features. She is a very, very handsome woman. Anyway, really good two part-er, with an anti climax.

Oh, yay, the other reason I took a two season hiatus from doctor who. I didn't have a problem with her initially. I'll leave it at that.

Interesting, I wonder what part river play then. Sw silverhammer, I would rather of had missy be the rani (no see change needed) the actress herself is good though and she was in a channel four comedy series called green wing.

Yeah, i can get behind that, but i'll be honest, i just want omega I don't care how. I feel like i'm going to regret saying that. Anyhow, I do like the woman playing her, she's seems pretty good. Though I hope at some point, she invokes the power of Satan, and commands multiple little people dressed like gargoyles.

Dunno what to make of series 9 of Doctor Who? I'm left with a sense of trepidation....coz I didn't think series 8 was all that great.

As I've stated before I'm quite looking forward to seeing more of this doctor develop and it was nice to see some of those on the fence about his age warm up to him.

So apparently we won't have Clara for much longer as jenna Coleman has gone for a 'bigger' role. I wonder if she was afraid she might get typecast the same way that Christopher Eccleston feared

Yay!
I watched Asylum of the Daleks the other day, and I really liked her in that. Since Capaldi took over though she just got annoying.

I don't blame Capaldi, I blame the writers trying to make her more of an "equal".

DW is back! Dude!

Good episode, Missy was in fine form and I actually enjoyed her. That being said, they need to use her sparingly or she'll become annoying like other bad guys *cough*Daleks*cough*

Speaking of ... Davros is back again. And it appears they're rehashing the "what would The Doctor do if he could stop the Daleks from ever being created?" story. Genesis of the Daleks was one of Tom Bakers best stories so it was great to see footage from it.

Clara was over-shadowed by Missy, this was a good thing.

The Doctor himself is clearly bat-shit crazy and I love it. Capaldi is doing a great job filling the role.

Vortex manipulators. Seems everyone seems to have these things. Missy should have her own Tardis!

Seems though they've written out a long standing plot point, Daleks were suppose to have time travel technology of their own, hence why I didn't understand Missy offering her services to pilot the Tardis.

Otherwise, it was a good Moffatt episode.

I've never understood why davros reappeared in his classic pre-Revelations form when Remembrance of the daleks had established his new appearance. I know they wanted his iconic look but the lack of explanation bugged me.

Though this lack of dalek time travel knowledge makes me wonder...

They acknowledge the classic episodes exist, but seem to pick and choose what to recognise and what to disregard.

I missed the episode, mind giving me the bullet point why there's a waft of bullshit here, because daleks and time travel might as well be inseparable. Like Hitler and Mountain dew.

Daleks get hold of the Tardis, Missy and Clara. Threaten to exterminate Missy and Clara and destroy the Tardis.

Missy tells the Daleks they could use the Tardis to go anywhere in time and space and kill anyone they want but they'll need her to pilot the Tardis for them.

Daleks have an established history of time travel, but this episode made it sound like they'd never mastered it themselves.

It was established in a mix of classic series, books, audio, modern series and games.

Unless Missy simply did not know.

Well the reason I asked is because, wasn't it established the Russell T Davies era, daleks have some sort of internalized time travel device? I mean that's very recent, you can't really excuse that much discontinuity with something that recent.

It really comes back to just poor writing.

He either ignored a well established fact (across multiple media types) or just really wrote Missy as an idiot.

Not even classic series Master would try to do something as stupid as convince to convince The Daleks he could give them something they already had, and he had some hair brained schemes to get himself out of trouble!

I was going to suggest that the technology was lost to them after the Time War, but then...yeah, they do have internalized time travel stuff. Or at least the Cult of Skaro does, maybe it's restricted to just them?
