The Official Transformers: Animated Discussion Thread!
Re: The Official Transformers: Animated Discussion Thread!
I just watched it (downloaded it since I'm not aware of it being shown in Australia any time soon).... and goddamn, that show is just made of awesome.
Starscream was brilliant. His voice is great and for once he's intimidating and threatening as well as being his usual scheming, power-hungry, backstabbing self. Watching him effortlessly (almost) beat five Autobots was so much fun. I'm actually scared for the Autobots when a Decepticon shows up now, which is just how I want to feel. One thing I didn't love about G1 and BW was that the Decepticons were kind of bumbling/incompetent/impotent. They rarely felt like a real threat to the Autobots. That's all changed now, and I love it!
I was undecided about buying the animated toys, and was not going to get them if the show was no good (or too 'kiddie'). But now there's no question about it. Bring on TF:A!
"Don't try to deceive a Decepticon, Autobot. We are the masters of deception!"

Re: The Official Transformers: Animated Discussion Thread!
Being another Australian I had to download the show as well, and just, wow. I am just so glad we've gotten something new smacked into our faces.
I may be highly against the majority of the designs of the show and the voices are new also, but I must say, I can get used to it. The story of it all and the characters, just perfect for me. I may of not been around to properly appreciate G1, but I can see this becoming a favourite.
I was practically enjoying this more than Bay's movie. Sure he had all the flashy CGI and pew-pew action and it was in cinemas and everything, this has character and plot and watching it makes me truly feel like a kid. And no plot holes so far, so good. *Fingers crossed*
Besides, I'm sure these toys will be more fun to play with than the movie line XD

John Moschitta (Jr. as he's mentioned here) will be reprising his role as Blurr?
Susan Blu as Arcee?
Corey Burton as Shockwave?
Lance Henriksen was a shocker. Still is.
And..."Weird" Al Yankovic as Wreck-FRIGGIN'-Gar.
*head a'splodes with joy*
And regardless of where you stand on the sequel issue, whoever they picked to play Magnus, did a darn fine job of aping Robert Stack's take on it. In fact, I was a little shocked when I heard the voice. Intentional? Unintentional? I don't know, but it was a nice, familiar voice.

The animation is really interesting, the characters are semi-crap, but there are good points why I like it better than anything since BM:
- no 10-minutes-of-show-i-wanna-sell-toys transformations
- the background is better than the actual characters
- battle damages!!!

Hah, interesting. First I'd heard of that. I must say Blurr & Wreck-Gar were some of my least favourite characters from G1, but Weird Al is cool (and would suit Wreck-Gar well) and I have faith that they can write good characters in Animated. I'm really looking forward to the stories they have to tell now, with the appearance of more Decepticons and the Dinobots and Constructicons.
Also Ultra Magnus was sending reinforcements. I wonder if that will be Blurr and Arcee, the Dinobots or someone else?

Re: The Official Transformers: Animated Discussion Thread!
I have always been a G1 fan and have never really taken to any of the series since those good old days. In my opinion the characters since then have been severely lacking in depth and personality.
I think the movie was a step in the right direction for the franchise and I definitely think that TF: Animated will bring back a lot of old fans.
The fact that the episodes are not overcrowded with characters helps immensely as we get the chance to see each ones strengths and weaknesses and I guess we get to fall in love with our favorites all over again.
The two biggest examples of this, I would say, is Optimus Prime and Starscream. Obviously we are going to see Optimus Primes journey as he turns into the great leader he was back in the G1 days, and everyone else seems to agree that Starscream was the stand out of the first episode and has already developed a solid character, and as BigRed said
All in all I can see myself being a huge fan of the series and the only thing that I REALLY disliked was "The name's BLITZWING insect, remember it, cause it's the last thing you'll hear before I... express my self in song???" I mean really, was that necessary?

For me the jury still out on this show.I did like this episode and the story a bit but the animation is still hurting the show.
I will say this....the story sofar has givven the show a "stay of execution" for me.I gave up on Cybertron after 1 episode and Energon after 2.And the Animated special was like 3 episodes rolled up into 1 so its doing better then the last 2 TF shows in my eyes.
I'll give it 3 more episodes before I pass final judgment.

I'm still shocked that it's done by Cartoon Network Studios.
I know I had heard that somewhere else before, a long while back. Still, it shocks me. A US made TF series after a decade of Japanimegottacatchemall that nearly ruined the shows for a lot of fans is nothing short of a miracle, and a welcome one at that.
With it being under control of WB now...I wonder what will happen to the DVDs, etc?
I know the rest of the Bay trilogy will be handled via Dreamworks/Paramount (they all signed on for that), but this one...this one confuses me.
Not to mention, where did CN get the clearances to use the old G! footage from War Dawn and More Than Meets The Eye Part 1? Last I heard the rights to that were in limbo since Sony sold off their Sony Wonder department.

Jazz and Sentinel Prime, at the least, are part of the Elite Guard sent to Earth.
The Dinobots are, once again, built on Earth in this serires (and will debut in Eisode 6, only three weeks away!)

I know this has no real bearing on anything, & from my understanding they already have the first 2 seasons mostly done, but I just hope somewhere in there they have an episode where they either do some time-traveling or some dimension-hopping & visit other known TF Universes. Honestly, I don't really care if it's G1, Beast Wars, Armada, one of the comic universes, whatever....but something of the sort would be interesting.

The story wasn't half bad and the new look isn't either. Good characters, storyline and style. I didn't care for the all white eyes on alot of the humans- it was zombie-like. Myself I like the more realistic transformers( RID, Beastwars, etc) as opposed to the childlike animation used in this series, but that won't stop me from collecting the toys.

I just noticed this, had to respond.
The ability to distribute the series via DVD is up in limbo, but the rights to the series belongs to Hasbro. It'd be kinda sad if they didn't have the rights to show their own property when they wanted to.

I know it's a late reply, but I just want to say sorry.
I only watched the first 6 parts (on youtube) thinking that was it, 6 parts of ten minuets each, 60 minuets, with advert breaks that adds up to an hour & a half. Didn't realise it was 90mins without adds.
So yea, I found parts 7, 8, and 9, realised my stupid mistake, and came back here to correct my post, only to find you'd told me about the last 3 parts anyway XD
Thanks & Sorry.

Unless, all that garbage you spout off is actually your personal, non professional ad non important opinion, then it's ok.
What a very "professional" statement. So, really what you're "implying" is that you think those of us that don't like the show are lower than you? I guess you've decided to proclaim yourself a "professional critic"? If so, I could say the same thing about your "intriguing (odd)" psyche and ponder "all that garbage that you spout off".
So what if you like the show! That's your EFFED-UP opinion... Right? I think it sucks... THATS my EFFED-UP opinion and there are others that have watched the show that share that opinion. This show (in my opinion) sucks right up there with RiD, Energon, Armada, Cybertron, and Beast Machines (yes, I said Beast Machines).
I gave the show a shot... An honest shot... It bored me. Believe me I wanted to like this show but I can't accept it as "cool". Just because we've all been so hard-up for a new animated series I'm just supposed to jump on the bandwagon and be a good little fanboy?
You know what... I'm mouthing off... I'd better quit before someone writes another "non-professional" response.
This fanboy is out on the TFs until the next movie sequel.
Spectacular Spider-man is a better written, better animated show and has a better theme song... Hands down!

Hee! Yeah, I've seen that parody too, and I am fond of G1 Shockwave in a weird sort of way.
Still would be nice to have a *screen* version of Shockwave that more matches his tech specs, though. Much as I love all the many GeekBots, it'd be cool to have at least one ruthless brainy Con in the roster.

Again, I totaly agree with you. Slap the word Transformers and suddenly fanboys just eat it up. I would also add Beast Wars. The show was called BEAST WARS and then "transformers" in really small print. Like it was just slapped on there. I tried to like it but I was bored and wanted to change the channel. My wife fell asleep. I did like Starscream and Megatron but that's not enough for me to continue with this show. Bay did a better job rebooting TF.
Bah weep granah weep nini bon!
