Welker sounds the same as his Dr. Claw and G1 Megatron voices. And the Dr. Claw voice is ROTF Soundwave's voice (and G1 Soundwave, but without the vocoder).

Probablyu the last time there was an Inspector Gadget cartoon with Dr. Claw in it.

Welker has always used his Dr. Claw voice for G1 Soundwave and Movie Soundwave. It's just the G1 Soundwave had that vocoder used on his voice to make it sound different. Movie Soundwave, however, didn't use the vocoder and just had Welker's normal Dr. Claw voice. But there were a few times in G1 where the vocoder was missing from Soundwave's dialogue, making him sound more like Claw.

All this has already been said within the previous posts of this thread. So, it probably would've been better to read through it all (or at least most of it).

I would have liked soundwave to sounded a bit more like G1, but i can overlook It , just because at least it's welker again.
what really didappointed me, was i was totally waiting for a 'ravage, eject" when ravage was reading for launch. would have been so cool. 'sigh..."

I dunno if this has been mentioned, but i noticed a difference in his speech in two scenes. When we first see him he says "soundwave Acknowledges, pursue her, retrieve it". It sounded pure, not edited at all. But when he's seen again saying "Decepticons mobilize, it is time". It sounded modulated (or w/e the word is). It was barley noticeable though.

That is the single most arrogant, self serving load of crap yet. This movie, this franchise, none of this BELONGS to any of us.
This was Bay's Movie from the start and we all knew that. Getting Cullen wasn't something he HAD to do for us. Just because there was a lot of us making noise doesn't mean he HAD to cave and to be honest, I'm surprised he did. Would I have boycotted the movie if he hadn't? NO! I understood from the beginning that this was not a 25 year old animated show.
Getting Welker this time around was not something he had to do either. He didn't owe Welker, he damn sure didn't owe us and he didn't owe it to Hasbro. In fact, I wish he hadn't done it because all it's done is bring out the absolute WORST in the whole damn fandom! Who do you folks think you are thinking you are OWED anything because the hardcore fans aren't the ones responsible for the bulk of the box office sales and we certainly aren't the ones who are supporting Hasbro. The only thing the Hardcore fans did for this movie occured on the opening night showings. Everything after that was majority general public, i.e. parents and children. The fans just happened to be the mouthiest ones during all the after-opening-day interviews so that's who the press zeroed in on. All hype and no substance just like this thread.

You're out of your mind. His voice is never vocoded in any part of the film. Static broke up his voice as he was trying to talk to Sam's mom. You're just making stuff up now.

i think they made the right choice to not go with vocoded voice, b/c as much as I love the original G1 voice - sometimes, not very often though, it was hard to understand. Since the movie was being made primarily for the average moviegoer who has never heard SW speak before, i can see them opting for no effects on the voice. We got Welker so we shouldn't complain - would you rather have no Welker for 2 movies? Not me.

I was a bit floored and disappointed with that, too. So was my nephew. We did wonder why Soundwave didn't get his own voice sound effect just like in Gen 1 or the Gen 1 voice effect.

NO! It would have been Loud, not audible. We would have had 80dB of distorted crap. I recognized the voice INSTANTLY as G1 Soundwave and was so thankful it was un-synthisized and crystal-freaking-clear and intelligible. If it had sounded a tenth of what the old voice was like with the modulation it would have driven me nuts coming through the theaters sound system.
It was the original actor, doing the original voice for that character IN IT'S PURE FORM. Not all doctored up. That's called TALENT folks. Look it up and learn to appreciate it. You folks liked the vocoder so damn much, go rent a motel room and sleep with one. You obviously respect the machine more than the actor behind the voice for whom you all screamed so damn much about having back. Frank Welker IS Soundwave, not some chezzy effects machine. You whiners are doing him an incredible disservice and making the rest of the Fan community embarrassed by this kind of disrespect. When I read that Bay said we was going to talk to Welker for Soundwave's voice I was really excited thinking it would be the synthesized G1 voice again. That's one reason Soundwave was my first Transformer as a kid and one of my three all time faves. When I heard the voice in the movie, I was a little disappointed at first, but I can still recognize that it's the same voice from back in the day, so I got over that pretty quickly. I was more disappointed that Soundwave never transformed and was basically non existent after the first 1/2 of the movie.

Why would I lie about something like this? It's not a matter of life or death. I got this as a G1 nod, you didn't... fine. I saw the movie twice the same day (at the theatre, not the crappy video/sound pirated version), both times I got it, and as I said: you do not get the same vocoder effect that you get in G1 cartoons, but you do get a vocoder effect. "Wet" means in audio that your original sound is completely processed with the effect. In this case the vocoder is used coupled with the crackling noise that sounds like static and applied to parts (not to the entire line) of the voice "mixed", meaning that you do NOT get a wet effect, and get remains of the original audio for a subtle modulation vibe. Your ears don't agree? Cool... watch it again at the theatre (a nice one with good audio setup) and be the judge, but do not tell off people trying to be some sort of forum slayer. You don't come off well with that attitude.

I saw it a 2nd time Fri, and I could almost swear SW came down himself to capture Sam's parents. Sux we didn't see the transformation. If it wasn't him, then it might've been a protoform Decepticon. But it makes sense if it's SW, b/c he could fly them from Europe to Egypt quickly with his alt mode. Even if it's not him, I'm going to believe it's him in my mind b/c i think it's cool!

I think it was a protoform because Sam's mom gets the phone call from Soundwave right after it shows him in space and then you see the protoforms hitting the buildings in paris and then one of them grabs the rents.

One question to those that are loosing sleepof the voice thing...

Do you guys truly feel that it wasn't tried with and without the voice coder before the final decision was made? You think that they just intentaily just left out the voice coder without exploring both posibilities? I'm sure in the end they did what they felt was best. Not becasue they didn't care.
