Bring in total unknowns, bring in brand new Voice Actors and lets spend 2 1/2 hours watching Unicron suck the crap out of our planet while indiscriminat robots blow the hell out of each other. And right at the last 5 minutes we get to watch Prime (Voiced by special guest VA Paul Rubens) pull some new, unexplained kind of matrix out of his exhaust port, shout "Light our darkest hour!" and destroy Unicron and transport all the Transformers back to a restored Cybertron.
How's THAT sit with you people??? NOW you have something worth bitching about!
...and before 80% of you ask, Paul Rubens is "Pee Wee Herman", so there's something else to get stuck in your brain like the chours of a really crappy song.
Sorry guys, that came across just a little bit harsher than it needed to be. I'm a smoker (spare the lecture, I'll only get my ire up) and I had gone without since yesterday. I turn into a real ***hole when I have to go without but I found someone to take pity on me (actually they just didn't want to put up with me being a grouch) so I've had one and I'm much better now.
I still think there are a lot of ungrateful, misguided people out there turning this into something WAY bigger then it needs to be but at least now I won't be as likely to go for someones throat as I would have 30 minutes ago. And I make no appologies for the Pee Wee Herman reference either. That one was thrown in solely for the purpose of screwing with your heads and I hope it causes angst for someone somewhere.

I can understand complaining about useless new characters. But such heat over a voice? I mean, c'mon...it's not like Soundwave's voice was incredibly out of character. I don't hear anyone complaining about Wheelie's new voice. I mean...his rhyming, sing-song speech patters were soooo defining and iconic of him, weren't they?
Personally, I'm much more irritated about what they did to Jetfire. As a character, it works, sure. But as the character of "Jetfire", no.
Wrong. None of the characters in this movie are from G1.Ravage XK wrote:To say that this isn't a G1 movie isn't really true, its using some of the characters from G1.

They use a synthesizer/vocoder for his voice in G1. I watched that show a million times growing up and it's the voice any legitimate fan identifies Soundwave with.
The voice he ended up with in this film was without syth/vocoder. It it was like all of the other characters he's lent that voice to in his time. He did it for the Devil in Eddie Murphy's "The Golden Child" and the Devil in "Spawn" just to name a few.......
Look I understand the fanboys wanna stick up for this movie, but it's getting out of hand with the excuses. The ROTF people even stated they didn't use the original voice because they thought it would be too hard to understand. Ummmmmm I know I never had a problem understanding him. And to think he'd be inaudible on the sound systems in theaters? C'mmmmmmmon.

Sounds alot like Movie Soundwave.
Either way, its a movie people. I wish they used his synthisizer too, but i got over it after the first couple lines. It is what it is, and there'sno use in crying about it now.

NO problem. But to be fair, i used the link that someone else posted. I just pointed out the voice simularites.
Isn't it amazing how much a reaction this movie is getting? Short of a topic about religion or politics, i don't think I've ever seen (and I'm being honest here) a topic that so many hold on such high a pedestal. I mean i know were all fans, (and yes were all fans. I'm no less a TF fan cause i like the movie universe than those that prefer G1,Armada, Beast wars etc., or vise versa) and we'd all like to see our hobby represented to the highest degree (which i still think they've done a good job with), but when its all over...
Its really just a movie. Soundwaves voice, Primes flames, BB being a Camaro, Skids and Mudflap getting more screen time than Construcicons, dirty humor, MB directing...
Its not worth loosing sleep over guys (and i know many of you are).
Like i said before, it is what it is. Life will go on. Now lets all sit around the camp fire and sing "kum-ba-ya"!![]()
... Or the TF theme. What ever you prefer!

Most of the series that ran after G1 had some form of connection to those characters. So you can say that all TF series are linked to G1.
I don't know of any series where Soundwave didn't have that electronic sound to his voice, it may not always have been the same effect but I'm sure it was always there.
I know its an odd thing but if you are going to make a Transformers movie you SHOULD keep the elements that make the character who they are. Otherwise, you might as well give them a totally different/new name. If they had all been brand new characters then maybe people wouldn't find so much to complain about as we could have accepted them for what they are and not what we consider they should be.

it IS amazing! especialy from the fans, i mean, im just glad that they did a live action movie, ya know? michael bay directing, questionable humor, plot holes and everything, i would rather take that then no movie at all. and back on the soundwave voice subject for a sec here, at least welker (my favorite voice actor of all time) did soundwave, and he did it exactly as he did for g1 so as far as im concerned he did his part and for that im greatful and extremely pleased!![]()
anyway, its a shame not more people aruond here have your attitude my friend!
peace

Herein lies the fun of being part of one GREAT BIG DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY! We are the reason that Reality TV has been pushing so hard to create new shows. Folks are abandoning their TV's in favor of forum boards and chat-rooms. Heck, outside of the 5:00 News I haven't watched cable in 3 days. I don't need too.Sure we attack and antagonize each other but when the chips are down I'm reasonably sure that 1/4 of these guys may actually have my back and the other 3/4 would give me a running start before they tried shooting me in the back. That's almost as good of odds as I would expect from my own family so I feel right at home here.
![]()
And to be sincere for just one brief instance, from my own standpoint, the reason I may be harsh or pushy with some of these folks is because I've been here long enough to say that I do give a damn about them, I respect quite a lot of them, I do see a lot of potential in people and sometimes folks need that extra push or kick in the chops, or eye opener to let them know that they really are "better than this" or that they are being "bull-headed" or in some cases you see where some need the encouragement. When we go too far a Mod will shoot lightning from his/her arse and bring us low and that's cool. (sucks for the offenders, trust me). I've walked away for weeks on end after getting frustrated but I just can't seem to give up on folks here. We are a community, we are a family, and at times we are the sum of all the Village idiots, but at least here, we can say we are something. That's good enough for me.

They are all new characters that share similar names and some body designs to characters from G1, but they are NOT the same characters from G1.
ROTF Soundwave =/= G1 Soundwave, Movie Optimus Prime =/= G1 Optimus Prime, and the same goes for the rest of them.

Yes you can. Transformers has been doing it since the beginning. Or are you saying that BW Megatron and G1 Megatron are the same character?

Hmm, I will admit that I didnt think of BW Megatron. I thought about Optimus Primal and how he was not Optimus Prime. ok, so there are exceptions to the rule but I stand by my opinion that these are supposed to be G1 characters.

Yeah, unfortuantely we seem to have some collicky infants for which a pacififer just isn't going to do the trick.
But good analogy...

We're collicky infants now?
Or is it that you're too easily pleased? Hot chicks.... CHECK..... 'Splosions..... CHECK...... any kind of robot whatsoever..... CHECK...... crude jokes...... CHECK ...........
Anybody who ever grew up watching Soundwave will always define him with:
1. He transformed into a boom box
2. He had little minions that popped out of him
3. He was Megs right hand man
4. His voice
I mean how many times have we seen pop culture reference his voice? I've seen it a number of times on a show like Family Guy .......
We are mad because Bay is a pompous prick who shows little respect for elements of this universe that deserve it.
