We have discussed this many times before.... It's incredibly unlikely since that would mean a lot of re-engineering and such, plus I believe Hasbro said they wanted to do a really faithful traditional Devastator in an interview, which is why they didn't have prowl in the first place.

Well, I'm thinking, since they made a Groove limb for Defensor, I think Takara may make a Prowl for Unite Warriors Devastator, If they DO a UW Devy. :-?

I've yet to see a really good picture of this 'prowlstator' thing... From the pics I've seen could the fans just get away with a new Devy head?

Combined mode doesn't really look THAT different... Still green, still have the same chestplate, just the head looks different.

Any better pictures that would justify massive retooling?

You may notice that the "Constructicon" in the front, beside Goldbug, has an Autobot symbol, that is Prowl.

Yeah, I can see that split into individual modes there's undoubtedly some differences. But what about when combined into Devastator? Could fans get away with just replacing the giant head and CALLING it Prowlstator? or do they absolutely need a complete retool to make it work?

It would work on the shelf, but I think Takara, maybe, just possibly, will do a Unite warriors Devy with Prowl.

Personally however, even if I have to pay $300 to get an SDCC version from a scalper off eBay, I'd still go that route over the current two third party options - without a moment of hesitation. For me, the Hasbro set has 3 things going for it that the 3rd parties do not:

1. Scale with Masterpiece line
2. Aesthetics fit with the Masterpiece line
3. In masterpiece fashion, individual robots are dead ringers for the original characters

Scaled-up Deluxe-class engineering or not, I want Scrapper, Mixmaster, Long Haul, Hook, Scavenger and Bonecrusher. Not...just some green robots who turn into construction vehicles. Which is what I personally feel you're getting with both Green Giant and Hercules.

Looks like your wish may come true. Most of them are hovering around $300 for pre-order:

tbh, Devastator is the one model I would prefer a set of high quality kit, because it's something I'd want to display, not play with. I don't need it to be kid-proof simple-transforming G1-style Constructicons. I'd actually want the alt modes to look good (like feasible construction vehicles with some functionality and articulation), as well as the gestalt mode looking good. The robot mode is least important to me, but even there I think Green Giant does quite well (at least compared with Hercules). Not as good as the upcoming TG Devy, but fairly close.

Seems like the paint and detail on GG is also probably the best of the bunch, too, though maybe SDCC version of Devy will compete with it. Really, after the underwhelming quality of the paint application on many of the Takara Tomy Masterpiece models (supposedly the high-end product for collectors), I'd really have to see Devy up close to be sure it is actually done well. I don't recall paint issues on my G1 Transformers 25+ years ago, but then I was much younger at the time, but I seem to recall more color-infused plastic and less actual paint. Though they did have that cheap chrome paint that always faded yellow over time. =)

I have every faith Takara will not do that. Their combiners have been released to appear as close to the originals as possible, such as including a whole new mod Groove. Mind you they are doing an Optimus Maximus, but I cannot see them doing Prowlastator. That would require a whole new Hook and a voyager Prowl. Besides, Hasbro already said they were not going to do that, and considering Takara transformers are based on the original G1 toys and cartoons and not the IDW G1, Prowlastator could only ever be a 3rd party creation in my opinion. :BOT:

Well, I'm thinking, since they made a Groove limb for Defensor, I think Takara may make a Prowl for Unite Warriors Devastator, If they DO a UW Devy. :-?

They won't for two reasons:

1) Prowl took Hook's place as Devastator's upper torso, with Hook becoming Devastator's right leg (replacing Scrapper). Thus, an accurate Prowlastator would require two new figures: Prowl as the upper torso, and a new Hook to form the right leg. In addition, building a Prowl who would be his usual black and white in robot and car mode and green in combined mode would tax even the most brilliant engineer at Takara.

2) No one in Japan cares about the IDW comics, so there is no reason for Takara to come out with Prowlastator.

As cool as it would be to have a (previously) comic accurate Devastator with Prowl as a component, it is ABSOLUTELY 100% NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

 well I don't want to pay $300 for the SDCC version; I had also looked them up previously on eBay, saw the scalper price, and consider that a worst-case-scenario.

Seriously doubt it either. As for it would entail a massive remold for the Head module that will look AWKWARD! And......unless Hasbro attempts an IDW first(very doubtful)

Takara already teased a UW Devastator with sillhouttes, none of which look like Prowl.

A few things..

DW = why I started collecting TFs again. Those were good times, except when the books stopped coming out on time..then stopped all together. Had to get out the issues and re-read, so good yet so many unanswered questions!!

An alternate Prowl for Devastator would be ballllllerrrrrrr, and I would be tickled pink if it actually happened.

Also, we still haven't seen the Takara Unite Warriors version yet?! And, what's the release date again? Another way to ask these questions is: "When will THEN be NOW?!"

I feel like I won't end up with Devastator until September, which seems super far away even though it's less than 90 days.

I feel Devs gonna be released for Christmas. Kind of like a cherry on top the Parfait. When it comes to marketing, the Japanese excel in selling stuff based on the season.

Guardian already has the October/November slot. Menasor late August.

Wonder how the paint application will be on the Takara. Not too thrilled with what I've seen from them so far on Masterpiece models. If the SDCC one is nicely done, no need to risk a Takara purchase unless it has some really significant differences to it. If SDCC isn't well done, probably Green Giant time for me.

RE: Prowlastator, third parties are pretty much the only way that's going to happen. Takara doesn't give one iota of a f*** about the IDW comics, because they don't get them in Japan. Hasbro's not going to do it because it's a supremely niche concept. People want their Devastator RIGHT. And now, Scoop has replaced Prowl as the sixth member of Devy and he takes Scrapper's traditional place as the right leg, returning Hook to the torso (although now Devy's head looks like Scoop's). 3Ps are the only ones that will have any interest in doing it, and not until they get their hands on the figure.
For what it's worth, though, Prowl doesn't magically turn green when he becomes a torso. He stays his traditional black and white, but the chest shield covers most of him. We've seen him from above a few times so we know he still looks like himself behind it.

Jay I feel like the Takara one is going to be the SDCC version with the Hasbro release head. Maybe an extra paint app (for the windows on Mixmaster or something). I'm sure it has been mentioned by people in the thread (I'm too lazy to search for it  ) kind of like Metroplex was very similar to the convention exclusives that year. They'll all be JUST enough to make them different, but I'm still going to stick with one of the Has/Tak versions over the third party offerings personally. Also, I think the big comparisons would be any of the Takara CHUG figures vs Hasbro CHUG as far as paint goes (not MP).

My only guess is they're holding off so's not to stifle the sales of SDCC Devastator.
You were just supposed to answer "Soon", Shaj. "Soon".

So "Annual Gift Man" will be delivering Devastator to Japan?! Sweeeeeeeeet!! Also, thanks for the info and the comparison photo post!

@ICT
I'm with ya. My prediction: UW Devastator will be near identical to SDCC, only with the standard head.

Wait... Wasn't SDCC/ACG Con Metroplex nearly identical to the Hasbro version besides for chromed face/thighs and the extra gun? Takara's deviated much more from either of those, so there isn't much precedent to suggest Takara's deco will be that similar to SDCC's. Unless the SDCC deco is slavishly G1.
