Burn wrote:So rather than cluttering up the Toys Haul thread ... let's talk about CW Computron here.
Scattorshot (a lazy retool), and Afterburner are pretty basic. Nothing overly great about them, they are what they are. Re-uses of molds that have been used a few times in the past.
Lightspeed (a slight retool), is a nice figure, as was Groove. Bit of a far cry from his G1 self unfortunately.
Nosecone ... ugh ... having never owned the Brawl mold before I had no idea what to expect. I had heard of Brawl's hip problems and I wasn't sure if it had been fixed for this release or not, apparently it has ... but that's one hell of a stupid looking hip. So another slight retool. A very "meh" figure.
Strafe ... well now. This is a nice retool! With Air Raid as the base they retooled the jet parts. My one complaint is in the fins, they're a soft rubber rather than hardened plastic. Definitely the best retool of the set.
Scrounge ... ah yes, my entire reason for buying this set. When Optimus Prime died in 1986 it paved the way for the possibility of Transformer death. It also set me on the collecting path of the Marvel UK comics and that's where we met Scrounge. I read that story many times, I remember it well. His appearance was short lived but I never forgot him. His death was quite graphic at the time so that stuck with me as well. And finally, after all these years, he's gotten a figure. Oh sure he's just a repaint of Cosmos with a new head but you know what? It works. It works well.
I haven't combined them yet, the feet and fists were my other incentive for getting this set. It's not a great set, but for the Neo-G1 collector who may not be getting Takara's version (I still am) then it's a set you'll want to pick up.

Straight from the battlefields of the Combiner Wars, it’s the bot who always analyzes before he acts—Computron.

I'm about in that same boat. It's a hard decision right now. I am really excited for Takaras, but this is so much cheaper and has Scrounge. The heads man, those are the things that are throwing me one way and another
Speak for yourself, man. Compared to Takara's, I like this Lightspeed way better. Of course, that might be due to my Dead End/Streetwise mold bias, but it's still a way better choice than the Breakdown/Wheeljack mold.Kurona wrote:admittedly, it does nothing for the bot modes (LIGHTSPEED)
Kurona wrote:PC-11 seems to help a LOT; go the Perfect Effect thread and you'll see just how effective it is. I think at this point Hasbro + PC-11 is an extremely valid option that almost matches Takara in how good it looks - admittedly, it does nothing for the bot modes (LIGHTSPEED. NOSECONE.) But for Computron himself? He looks great.

I've seen it. The thing is that with the PE set it will cost basically the same as Takara's and it does nothing for the individual heads. Plus, I still think Takara has the better head than PE, so it really isn't that good an option for me with those regards.

Ah, but with the Takara set you'd likely need to get PC-12 (hands and feet) somewhere down the line, wouldn't you? Plus you don't get scrounge.
D-Maximus_Primal wrote:Takara nailed the individual bot modes for sure, which is why I love it so much. The fact that the chest and head are different are also big pluses for the combined mode. It just lacks Scrounge and a cheaper price point, which is making it hard now that hasbro Computron is out and about
