Serious Question: What is everyone's opinions of the 3rd party hand/foot upgrades? There is a Defensor on EBay I am watching and it has those perfect effect hands and feet and I want to know are they worth it? :BOT:

They are very out of proportion with the limbs and torsos. The feet also tend to fall in half a lot; and the hands are nastily skeletal. They aren't even good as weapons from the look of it. They pointlessly shoved in a bunch of gimmicks and nothing ended up working.

If you're on the fence watch benscollectables, or some other reviewer to find out fo ryourself. If you want it for defensor, get it, or try to find a cheaper one; otherwise check out nonnef for good hands/feet/ratchets.

I've been buying them by the volumes. 1 volumes collects 5 or 6 issues and is only $12-15 on amazon and occasionally cheaper on ebay, including shipping (many times free). both major ongoings right now are superb, so I think you could get into them, and you can do so slowly if need be.

The reason I got into them: Deluxe trailcutter. Favorite transformer of all time, and he had a comic, and I fell in love :BOT:

Yeah, the originals work very well, I only bought a set for galvatronus, it was only $10, ~$3 shipping, because I wanted poseable hands for him, since he is my favorite, and he remains combined almost all the time. You would probably be surprised how sturdy the feet are if you bend the thumbs towards the inside of the legs.

I know you are talking about Defensor, but I was thinking the same thing regarding Motormaster, even though I don't like how that figure looks. With my all new Motormaster/Menasor torso that I'm CAD designing by myself...
Image
...I'm also planning to have the combiner bits integrated into Motormaster's induvidual modes (Monster truck mode, and robot mode). It's kind of a shame that the Hasbro combiner torsos don't do the same thing. Why give the limbs giant, ugly, hand/foot/gun things to hold in their hands, when you can easily design them into the voyager itself! Just a thought. >:oP (I also thing that the combiner feet and hands, would look better if they were their own pieces, and instead became part of the alt mode, and individual robot mode.) If they did that, they could've EASILY made better looking, and more appropriately sized hands and feet.

Why design them to be integrated in the first place? Kids should just not lose their parts. ;)

Lol, yes Burn. But it's more or less because I like to think rationally about it. Would it be more convenient for the combiner bits to be integrated into all of the modes, and then only used when in combined form, or would it be more convenient for the limb bots to lug around these giant pieces, and potentially get them lost? If one of them looses a piece, then they're in big trouble now aren't they? ;)
I also think a Monster truck makes more sense for a STUNTicon, than a semi truck does. >:oP Also, who doesn't want to see a black, grey, and purple monster truck??? I sure do!

So don't lose them. (I never did)

Like you said, the feet/hands are ugly when used on the individual modes. Don't get me wrong, I think it's good Hasbro have made the feet/hands work with the individual modes, I just don't think they look good are even necessary.

If anything, they were designed to look good in combined mode, the individual modes were just an after thought. (Mine will be staying combined anyway, except for the outcasts)

My point is, instead of having them as GIANT GUNS SITTING ON TOP OF THE VEHICLE, how bout having them as part of the vehicle? When I'm done designing it, you'll see what I'm talking about.
If I integrate them into the vehicle mode and robot mode as part of them (like for example, the robot mode legs come off and become the APPROPRIATELY SIZED feet in combined mode), you wouldn't even know the pieces are there till you combine him. I'm not talking about ME losing the combiner bits, I'm talking about the Stunticons losing them in battle, and not being able to combine. Lose 1 piece, they're toast.

peaces wrote:integrated parts are ass

Like I said, they are not if you design them properly.

Not only will my Motormaster be a better torso for your Stunticons, but also an upgrade kit to give him better hands and feet in combined mode.

I'll raise ya one, the rid prime/magnus combined mode hands (they turn inside out don't they? now that is parts integration ;) )

To be completely fair, all that core Prime had to do for his combining was spread his shoulders and raise his torso over his head. But yes, his extra parts were well-taken care of. Except his damn pistol. I've lost that thing and then found it and then lost it again several times. I think I've lost it for good this time.

As for integrated combiner parts on scramble combiners, we tried that with FOC Bruticus. The result was kind of terrible. I kind of prefer the hands and feet be separate on the real toys, even if they spawn out of nowhere in fiction. As long as they have somewhere to go and look plausible in other modes, it's good. This works especially well with the Aerialbots, since real jets are known to have underslung missiles. For the cars, I admit it's much more obnoxious, but kids don't care, and adults can put them to the side.

THIS

I thought half of the stunticons pulled off the integration (you know who they are) pretty well; and yeah, I knew the volume of accessories was going to be quite egregious, so I put a ziploc next to them to store any and all spare parts left behind.

I KIND of wish the jet hands split down the middle like and you could put half under each wing... that would have been pretty cool.

I don't get too concerned when dealing with the toys. In my mind, Transformers would be (shudder) more like Bay's designs with billions of little pieces packed into a vehicle shell that COULD form into hands or feet... where Toys just don't do that. There's always SOME compromise to be made. Heck, on some of these it's tough to get a good robot AND a good Vehicle... Demanding an awesome limb too is a bit greedy.

I will say I love weapons to be tucked in somewhere. I absolutely loved how Beast Wars started the whole integrated weapons concept... but whole hands and feet? I can justify those being extra parts.

(Original) RiD Optimus Prime.

Those integrated parts sucked. They made those toys very hard to play with. I like the new ones so much better :BOT:
