Hey friends, just wanted to give people a heads-up that Combiner Wars G2 Bruticus, G2 Superion, and Victorian are all on sale at Walmart.com. All 3 are almost $30 off each.
Went ahead and picked-up the G2 Bruticus.

haha, you say that everytime. But think of it this way, I already have these toys so whats the point. And if I didnt, I would have been so worried that I would have bought them online since I cant depend on the chance of them showing up at a warehouse. This is more fun for those who are only now coming into TFs and can get some more that are curently no longer in stores for afordable prices. Especially that amazon exclusive Slog.

I probably sound a little biased since I don't like the movies; but I see old AOE stock everywhere, yet no other 2014 toys - such as Thrilling 30 or Beast Hunters - in sight. Did Hasbro just overstock stores with AOE or what?

It might be down to the horrible way they handled the distribution globally as when the demand is lower in one market they dumb the stock on places where it sells - sometimes resulting is mess ups like the Tuner Mudflap Debacle.
Or Australia getting huge amounts of Alternator Hound and ROTF Longhaul toys.
when those toys were not even released in some markets.

Movie toys sell very very well. Better than Generations. Here is the proof:

Image

The reason you see a bunch there is because they made just too damn much of this half way there class (not really a deluxe, but more complex than a one step) and didnt stock them all while the movie was hot. Some, like Vehicon and Junkheap never got distributed in certain places. And now that they arent hot, they just rot, being sold from discount wholesaler to discount wholesaler.

The One Steps sold quite well actually, even though there were a ton of those. The lower price point helped. And the flip and change sold well too.

Yeah, stores buy up so much Movie product from Hasbro that they expect it all to sell like hotcakes, when instead everyone who wants what they want get what they want and leave the rest for the store to hold onto, waiting and hoping for more of it to get sold. The stores always overestimate their market for Movie products. The Movie stuff sells good, real good, but the stores get in over their heads on how good they think "real good" is.

Doesn't really make a difference to Hasbro either way. After a certain number sell they cover the pre-production costs (designing, sculpting, mold making, advertising), anything past that number only costs as much as the material/labor to make them (which isn't much) and ship them. And it doesn't really matter what they sell for in stores since the wholesale price to the retailer isn't likely to change. So Hasbro can crank out an excessive number of a figure, sell the leftovers off to a liquidator and still make a profit as long as the liquidator takes them at more than the cost of resources and shipping.

I've heard this argument a number of times on this forum. From a pure financial standpoint you're probably right that Hasbro is indifferent. While it's prudent of them to sell leftovers to liquidators to maximize profit, I just imagine that is not their desired outcome. There has to be a reputational cost that I imagine will lead to financial costs if Hasbro doesn't change strategy. Hasbro can't not care if things don't sell.

I imagine the movie toys sell well in the mass market, but to me they are junk. I bought a few for my son, but they all broke (mostly Rotf deluxes). I think the only one he still has is a Deluxe size Jetfire from RotF.

Of course as I stated many times, I've been out of collecting the toys for roughly a decade, and just started up again with CW/UW. The Universe toys always appealed to me though obviously often because of their homages to the original series. I almost got some FoC toys, but resisted. I probably would have got Generations Metroplex had I ever seen him at retail, but CW is what finally brought me back. TR is a great looking line, but as I will be "back collecting" CW & UW for some time, I think my TR purchaees will be limited to Fort Max and maybe one or two select others. I'm a huge fan of the combination gimmick so while TR toys look awesome, there is no "gotta have em all" incentive for me.

I am not completely closed minded though...this may not be the right forum...but can anyone endorse a really good quality movie based toy? I have yet to see any, but then again I only have the fw examples of the ones my son had, which were not good.
Bucket/Want List: Botcon 2016 Customization Class Ratchet (G2 Deco), or Customization Class Ratchet (Marvel Comics Deco) **would also be willing to pay for an Unpainted Botcon 2016 Ratchet, TT Legends Fortress Head (only) with working Electronics

Wish List of Modern Combiners: Road Caesar, Monstructor & Dinoking (proper size to fiction), Landcross, Guard City, Battle Gaia, & G2 Defensor. Wish List of Titans:Metrotitan,Majin Zarak

I only ever had him because he was in a reduced 2-pack with Classics Optimus, but I can vouch for the Age of Extinction Evasion Mode Optimus Prime being extremely good. Very poseable, very accurate to the screen, an impressive (if slightly complicated) transformation that achieves a very good vehicle mode... it's a very good figure.

I would LOVE to. I wrote 2 lists on the subject. One about characters that appeara on screen and one for characters that appear offscreen. And surprisingly, everyone agreed on these lists as you will see in the comments:

http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/ ... ogy/36158/

http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/ ... ogy/36261/

Of the ones being rereleased, the ones I would recomend are both Optimus toys, Soundwave and Shockwave.

Funny isn't it that some people complained about complexity of the ROTF line and yet it's the best selling Movie line by far.

It's all gone a bit down hill since HFTD/RTS - don't movie fans deserve good toys too ?

Ones that don't cost $50.00 Plus I mean.

But then the new movie toys "Might" see some releases inside the "Generations" Banner as well as what some call "Kiddy Crap" (cough 'Power Attackers' cough).

I don't even object to some of the young slanted stuff - heck I could list loads of pre-AOE kids line toys I really like some of the DOTM stuff is a bit iffy though.

-------

I wonder what the sale figures are for 1985 or for pre 2005 (Like Armada) ?

-----------

I would expect Movie toys to sell better than Generations for the simple reason that Generations sell on Nostalgia or for a little while on a comic - the problem was that comic wasn't included in some markets so some international consumers didn't know what was being sold to them for a while there.

I mean for example - I adore Rhinox - but should I really expect a 6 year old to know who he is ?

It's like expecting a 10 year old now to have seen Eerie Indiana.

The Movies toys however can ride the coat tails of a multi-hundreds of millions Hype train. That is why they made such a pigs ear out of AOE internationally they sold the wrong kind of toys in the wrong way to the wrong places at the wrong price.

Then when they did show up as clearance less people were interested.

If a Parent approached me and said their kid is a big fan of Hound in AOE - I wouldn't be pointing them at the Hasbro toys I'd be suggesting one of the KO's.. that I am suggesting a KO as a SUPERIOR product - does I think say that something has gone a bit wrong some where.

-------

I sometimes look at the Combiner Wars Deluxes a bit cockeyed as I tend to think that as a update of the characters they are not all 100% successful over the previous "Classics" offerings - they might even look a little 'cheap' sometimes.

--------

Titans Returns as a line has some merit over all - but I do wish they'd not gone 100% headmaster when some Targetmasters or Powermasters would have been nicer for the variety in appearance & play value in some cases.

Overlord & Hotrod especially.

But I guess I have put "Prime Wars" in a mental box similar to AEC at this point and see it as it's own little pocket Universe.

Went to T.J. Maxx tonight was surprised to find the did a rather big restock on Combiner Wars Voyagers. They had multiples each of Battle Core Optimus Prime, Motormaster, Onslaught, and Scattershot at $14.99 each. Picked up BC Prime since I didn't see very many when he was first released and I already have regular Optimus, Motormaster, and Grand Scourge so may as well complete the set. I might go back for Onslaught another day. Worth checking out if your store sold out before.

The still had the two crushed Onslaughts from their first time stocking these, this time knocked down to $12.99.

Yea I go to a TJ Maxx near my office almost daily, and also noticed a huge restock of CW Voyagers this week. They had all the same figures you mentioned for the same price. A bunch of those figures are even cheaper on HTS though.

Yep, and I didn't have the money at the time when they went on sale since I got Victorion on Amazon instead. Now that I do have money I'm perfectly happy saving $10 with the T.J. Maxx price.

For anyone in the UK (or considering how good a deal this is, I'd argue anyone in Europe), Kapow Toys currently has Deluxe Groove for £20.
