"Legacy" Animated Prowl actually isn't all that bad...
except for those eyes.

And I'm not a big fan of how they've included the handlebars in the "wings" - I could "buy into" a change where the handlebars could rotate and "compress" to rest on the shoulders a-la "missile launchers", but having them just "stick up with the wings" gives me thoughts of someone grabbing Prowl by those handlebars and judo-throw-suplexing him and/or some other martial-arts-bot (Drift came first to mind for some reason) vaulting off of them...

I got Legacy Inferno for Christmas and I'm loving the figure but he needs his flamethrower. I'm looking at "upgrade kits" and the only one that seems decent is linked below. Anyone gotten this or should I hold off until a more reliable kit maybe comes out?

I'm OK with the Prowl figure. I still own Regular and Samurai TFA Prowl, and I don't see anything particularly disagreeable about the Legacy remake. There are differences yes, but not game-breaking differences. The head has a 'Mr. Happy' look to it that I wish was more muted, and the alt mode has some aspects that may not be practical in 'real life'. But making these figures has always been an exercise in compromise between decent alt and robot modes.

I'm among those who disliked the Prime Legacy remakes because they strayed too far from the source material. I'm cautiously optimistic about the TFA remakes though.

Really impressed by the amount of asymmetrical detail on the Junkion. I like that they are getting really creative with these designs and not just sticking to The Movie ones, that were all colour palette variations on Wreck-Gar...

I really, really like the Junkions, especially the tow truck.

As for "Animated" Prowl, the only major letdown is the absence of the samurai armor/sidecar. His face reminds me more Smokescreen (G1) btw.

For me, if these new Junkions would’ve had better head and face sculpts, I would’ve considered them despite they are awfully small compared to Wreck-gar and Junkheap.
I do like the asymmetrical design of this second one, but still these are a really easy pass for me.

I think Animated Prowl looks really, really bad.
I had a pretty decent collection of Animated figures, and he was one I really enjoyed.
Although the cycle mode is alright, none of the bot mode works for me…
It just looks goofy, in a horrible way.
The face and head just look dumb…
If they weren’t going to keep any of the slender proportions of the torso and limbs similar to the original, why do any sort of elongating of the face and head??
This probably could be substantially different for me if they would’ve made a head/face that was much closer to a G1 style.
This guy just looks like a bozo.

Prowl's face doesn't bother me in the slightest, just looks like he's got a motorcycle helmet with chin strap and visor on. Never realized how little imagination people here had until this figure was leaked.

Got Sludge from Amazon today. He's... Okay? Like I'm not gonna be too hard on him cause he forms the thighs and waist of the combiner and cost $10, but his bot mode obviously took the brunt of the compromises. Dino mode's good enough, if a bit lopsided, and combined mode is pretty good. Definitely the mode he designed for the most.

I will say, I'd hoped the combined torso would be bigger, cause as of right now Volcanicus won't even hit taller deluxe/small voyager height, only average deluxe height. Oh well though, so far I'm liking how he's turning out

I'm not interested in Dinoking, and I have the POTP Volcanicus team already, so this Core team is a hard pass. But, why Hasbro? It's like you're begging KO companies to upscale these... don't make it easy for them.

I guess Hasbro has more faith in a Core class Volcanicus being a success (since it's still the G1 Dinobots in some form) than they have in a Core class Monstructor or Dinoking, and so are using Volcanicus to test the waters to see if it would be successful enough to warrent a Monstructor and/or Dinoking happening later.

I don't think they are testing waters, that Dinoking or Monstructor (whichever) will be happening. Probably as a boxset through fan channels. The core class is just to give parents a cheaper option on shelves for known characters, that's why the put Dinobots there. The combining gimmick is just an extra collect them all aspect at that level for kids/parents. Where we (the fans) come in is with the redecos that will emerge in fan channels.

The core class is to counter KOs, giving parents a cheap options for transformers while other classes become prohibitive for on the spur moment purchases. Same logic behind having those authentics figures in budget stores.

Transformers Legacy Evolution Core Sludge, Slug and Soundblaster out in Canada + Reviews

Postby william-james88 » Wed Jan 11, 2023 8:45 am

Motto: "'till All Are One"
The next phase of the Transformers Legacy line is taking shape in North America. The core class is slowly being released through Amazon in the US and in Canada, this first wave has been found at Walmart in Ottawa (by CanPrime). It contains Sludge, Slug and Soundblaster. We have reviews from our community below for these toys.

chuckdawg1999 wrote:Finishing up the Wave 01 Core Class figures from Legacy Evolution we have Soundblaster and Sludge. Soundblaster looks great but is a bit looser in some areas than Soundwave and really doesn't offer anything new. Sludge is much better in hand than stock photos have made it look, but you still have to get used to how the figure works below the waist. Once you understand all that Sludge has to do, forming the torso and upper legs of Volcanicus, you start to appreciate the figure more. Overall, both figures are fine but I would pick up Sludge first just to have the next piece of the Volcanicus puzzle.

chuckdawg1999 wrote:This is an interesting way to start the Evolution of Legacy. Slug, more commonly known as Slag to long-time fans, is a really fun figure. Transformation is simple but has a few fun steps that leave you satisfied. While this can never replace the SS86 leader, Slug makes for a fun desk toy.

I like how Prowl looks, I think the face and the thighs should have been lankier to match the Animated aesthetic more, but I really do actually like him.

The day I no longer read the word "Slag" as Slug's name will be a good day.

I suspect we may get a Selects "Samurai" voyager class figure down the line with the added armor

I think there is a collector use case, which is a budget-friendly counter to 3P Legends scale. These mostly aren't as nice as the old Legends, but I like a smaller scale and simpler transformation set of G1 guys. I'm hopeful to have a good season 1/2 cast to have alongside the Ark even if it's not really to scale, because it should still be passable in a certain kind of display.

The reason I didn't really consider the whole 3p thing as a huge factor was the lack of scale. But I assumed that 3p did things to scale at that class size, do they? Like, is Grimlock bigger than Prime and Prime bigger than Prowl and Prowl bigger than BB, ect?

I'm still reeling from PotP Volcanicus being such an overbalanced, floppy mess. I can't bring myself to go for the Legacy Core dinobots, especially when the 86 Studio Series leader figures are so awesome.

I still think it's more of an appeal to parents buying for kids (or kids on a budget) and any collector appeal is a happy accident (as Bob Ross would say).

Motto: "The man, the myth, the legend... yeah right."
Weapon: Saber Blade
In the category of this hardly ever happens, my Hot Shot arrived missing a part, one of the yellow flaps that complete the hood and roof of car mode. It didn't break off and wasn't rattling in the box, it was just never attached. Amazon is sending me a replacement and I don't have to send the damaged one back which is good, since I would be afraid of them trying to sell it as a Warehouse Deal. Other than that it's a fun figure with an interesting transformation. It does suffer from the lack of Jolt, it just feels like something is missing.
