I remember this discussion last year when the boxsets were coming out, and the general consensus was that we (the fandom) ASSUMED that it would be 4 large boxsets because of something about getting all 4 Clones (and finishing off the "ultimate" Titan Masters). I don't believe Hasbro ever said they were doing 4 full size boxsets.

But by that logic, if TR's big boxsets did, in fact sell well, I would say it is still potentially on the table.

We didn't actually get confirmation of the Boxsets until Toy Fair 2017. And it is highly likely that Hasbro has instituted multiple measures to prevent leaks since the Summer. Maybe we will be in for a treat come Toy Fair 2018. If we aren't, oh well. But I think the odds are still good for boxsets.

Emphasis on "assumed" here. What works against that 4 box sets theory is that Trypticon cereal box which listed all names for the Titan Masters. By that count, 4 were missing, 2 for the Voyagers, 2 for the Leaders. So it's quite possible that 4 were initially planned, but were quickly split off during fleshing out of the plans. But that's all in the past now.

What would the themes for potential PotP box sets be anyway, Combiners aside? Monstructor could be done as a 6 member team that way, as the two torso bots would most likely be between regular retail Size Classes. Exclusives, including box sets, don't have that restriction.

I could easily see the other duocon being in a box set if they did some heavy retool g of battletrap.

I'm remaining hopeful that and/or will develop two bot torsos. They could sell them in a two pack at the voyager pricepoint. That may make the two characters a little on the small side, but their torso mode would then scale perfectly. Or, as suggested above, they could do a $100 box set, exclude the Legends class toy, and just make both torso bots roughly deluxe size. It would be about the same value. I bought Liokaiser, I love Liokaiser and his four limb bots, but I hate the Deathsaurus/Leozack/Jallguar/Sky Lynx fusion abomination. This ain't no Steven Universe!

Maybe if theyvdropped it at a 2999 pricepoint and gave it to Walgreens, but even then it would be tight, and remember that part of that price mRkup is Walgreens, not Hasbro. Hasbro still gets a comperable wholesale cost, whatever that might be

I was suggesting creating two figures that, when combined, would be the size of a Voyager. So, each one would likely be a bit smaller than your average deluxe.

Yep, I know what you are getting at, but a Legends figure isnt going to have the bulk needed to solidly hold those Combiner pegs. So already you need something close to Deluxe just for two slots (two for shoukders, and the other bot has 2 for the hips)

Now I am just spitballing numbers based on what I have read and heard in the past, but from factory to store Deluxe costs (to Hasbro) are something like 70% of a Voyager. The difference in price comes from the extra plastic, and shipping since you can get more Deluxes in a box and spread out the R&D costs across more of them. But actual tooling is almost the same between the two price points. So just shrinking the figure down does not offset the R&D costs. I'm not sure eliminating the bonus figure would still get you in cost effective range, since repainting is a whole lot cheaper than banging out an all new tooling.

That was some interesting logistical info.
It did make my idea seem rather infeasible. The only other thing I can think of would be to release two carded deluxes that combine into a torso. It would deviate from the play pattern a bit, but wouldn't hurt Hasbro in production costs. Might work better if they produced more than one of these pairs, with compatibility to allow mixing and matching (Dinokaiser, Liostructor, etc).

You think so? I guess it depends on if you want them to turn into their shells or not. Outside Japan the Dinoforce shells aren't very iconic and it would be hard to look at the figures as anything other than green Dinobots. On the other hand I think there's some potential in Terrorcons looking really good in Pretender Monster (very creative name, Hasbro) colors.

Of course we can both agree and say that the best way for them to do monstructor would be to ignore the pretender shell and the best way to do dinoking is have the pretender shell be the alt mode.

And the dinobots wouldnt all be green. Only 3 of them, and it wouldnt even be the same green.

I am calling it now, Dinoking will be a team of 4 deluxes + dark turquoise Grimlock as a torso and the ankylosaur is ignored.

No, as those new "Beast Wars" characters rumor is based on the hope of a Eukaris-themed set (planet in the IDW comics with BW characters, complimenting Velocitron). Optimus Primal did get made, through the unrelated Fan Vote.
On the side, FunPub did plan a Scorponok out of the RiD Bisk mold, but when they heard the license would end, they hastily used Gen Scamper instead.

That's actually exactly what I was saying. When I said "you think so?" I was referring the use of shells. Dinoforce would look fine based on their shells, especially the way the shells were treated in the cartoon, but I think there's a strong argument for the use of just the inner bot when comparing Cutthroat and Wildfly without the shell. In this case I think the chances are equal rather than more in Dinoforce's favor.

I was admittedly simplifying things since I wasn't going to name off all of the colors.

Totally agree there, though if it's Hasbro and not a Takara Tomy Mall UW Exclusive I do wonder if they wouldn't create a new character out of Slash.

I really don't consider the poster proof of anything. A poster can be designed and produced in a month. I'm talking long after they had made any decision on TR box sets and TRU/Walgreens exclusives. And as an SDCC exclusive there are no big logistics involved, just print them out and bring them to the con.

On the other hand with the TR boxes being based on planets and the strong belief that one of the planets would be Eukaris then it seems more likely that we'd have gotten at least a third box (probably "intelligence") of beasts having gotten Wingspan, Grotusque, and TM Scorponok elsewhere.
