Maybe since the G1, Victory, and BW cartoons are all part of the same continuity in Japan, the main MP line can incorporate the BW characters, while the Movies are a different continuity (one that even uses the Hasbro names even in Japan) and so get their own distinct "MPM" line.

I'm guessing because Beast Wars is still considered G1, whereas the Movie line is its own universe and style. Besides, I'd rather have everything streamlined rather than having so many sublines the logistics would be a nightmare
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

I think its because the MPM line already existed and was made up of molds not original to the line. That is why the distcintion was made originally and I think they are keeping it distinct to keep form. Also it could be to distance themselves from Takara, which they are doing a good job at since we are currently not sure who exactly is responsible for this product.

I would have preferred a separate designation for the Masterpiece Beast Wars figures as well. MPBW-01 would have been perfect to me.

I spent time trying to decipher those Cybertronian letters on the inside of the flap on that Shadow Spark Optimus box, thinking it might be saying something profound or hinting at something from the movie, only to find out that it just says "Transformers," and that I was doing it backwards the whole time.

True. But somehow $80 + Shipping seems a little steep for a Bumblebee in comparison to the awesome sauce that is MP Sideswipe, or even Hot Rod.

Even Tracks was not worth its full MSRP. Though I'm glad to have picked him up for $45 when the opportunity arose from BBTS.

I agree with all those points. I was just saying that anyone who would pay $80 for him at a retail store will still be able to get him for $80 online if he never shows up at retail.

Depending when he comes, I will need to pre-order him from TFsource and hope something else/some other things come along that allow me to get the free shipping. I have the Optimus "Masterpiece" and I really want this. Movies were my introduction, Bee was my first Autobot, and I do really love the look

If this gets a Japanese retail release (is there any question that it will?) then he should be considerably cheaper there for us. Hasbro has been basically matching the Japanese retail price on MP cars at $1 to 100 JPY so Japanese retail will likely be 8,000 JPY, reduced to probably about 6,500 JPY or less after the usual Japanese discounts bringing it down to like USD$57 which means you can get it shipped for probably USD$63 at the current exchange rate.

Or any other mold for that matter, it's 100% new. It only has some concepts in common with other Bees, but doesn't share any parts/engineering.

*cracks knuckles*

Let's start here:
HftD
Image
Image

The new one:
Image
Image

If you look, the heels are different, there are the bits that allow for the extra set of lower wings, the new version (shown in the second picture) has the wheels fold up into the heels, actually making them look like part of the leg rather than kibble on the outer shin. The leg kibble folds up better and the legs actually look slightly larger.

the old:
Image

The new:
Image

The new one actually has a whole new section in the middle of the chest where the head sits, which includes those 2 little neck flap details. You can also see the knees and the armor around them hinge differently. The arm detailing and posability, along with the very different right arm, also stand out as different. The front of the car mode has been redone to match the first movie camaro as well, and the ab detailing is different.

It is also obvious the packaging uses a different picture for both bot and car mode than the actual figure based on said chest detailing!
Image[/center]

In summary: I think this is a whole new mold, or at least so heavily retooled it should qualify as one

Edit: also shows ankle tilts, something not really seen on Bumblebee's before

I think it might have actually been on display there, but off to the side just to remind people why the new figure is MPM-3 and not MPM-1. It is a little strange that they didn't show a little ambition and change it to MPM-03 to indicate that they could do more than 9 in the future.

Transformers: The Last Knight Toys'R'Us Toy Listings Information and Speculation

Postby Va'al » Thu Jan 12, 2017 12:01 am

Motto: "Till All Are Pun!"
A fellow Transformers fan and user of fellow fansite TFW2005 (Prime135s) has done some more digging in the Toys'R'Us system on those placeholder listings for The Last Knight toyline, as first seen here. We have some interesting additions to make, along with visual confirmation, about the Mars and Jupiter listings, with some decent enough guesswork for Saturn too - all under the Masterpiece monicker - resulting in Bumblebee, Optimus Prime and probably Barricade, or some form of car in the same price range of $79.99 as Bumblebee, anyway. Optimus/Jupiter is shown as $99.99.

The rest of the listings show the name of Power Cube Figures ($14.99), along with a Starter Pack called All Spark ($39.99). Plus, we get a potentially dinotastic box set, with 5 currently still unnamed figures plus Slug - and it's a combiner pack, to boot, for $34.99. Will we be seeing a Dinobot combiner with the return of the team since Age of Extinction? Lastly, we have mention of a Planet Cybertron figure, in two size classes and price points, $149.99 and $39.99 (deluxe). Deluxes are priced at $19.99, and Legion 2-packs at $15.99. Check out the images below, and let us know what you think in the Energon Pub!

If Cybertron itself is getting toys in this line, I guess we can consider that big Gobotron-looking planet thing from the trailer to very possibly be Cybertron more than anything.

And it's at the Titan price point. I wonder if it really will just be a playset or actually transform into Primus?

We can also confirm that there are two MPMs in this line at the same price point, not just Bee. Also narrows down Bee to being either Saturn or Mars from the list of code names. I hope Barricade really is the other MPM, it would be nice to get another MP Decepticon. I guess we do need a new MPM Optimus, just hope he looks as good as Takara Tomy's upcoming MB repaint.

That Dino combiner, at that price, has me thinking it's Beast Hunters Abominus repainted similar to what they did for AoE, but with an added Slug as a weapon replacement.

I'll be honest, the MPM figs have me more exited about movie toys than I ever have been before. I've liked all of the movies, but always found the toys lacking for the most part.

For some reason I really love that it's got the little collar bits.
This figure's probably too big to scale right in my regular collection but as a fan of movie Bee it can become the 'tribute figure' as it were.
I have anxiety, depression and aspergers syndrome so my behaviour can be erratic. I don't mean offense to anyone. Just very picky about my Transformers collecting. You're all cool! :)

Likes: Bayverse, Marvel UK G1, Geoff Senior art, '86 movie (more for style/soundtrack rather than Star Wars plot)
Dislikes: Bumblebee movie (lousy rehashed dumb crud), TFA, G1 cartoon, IDW G1, BW/BM, MP. The entire concept of Autobot Megatron
