Eh, disappointment is in the eye of the beholder. Fort Max serves his purpose from Hasbro's point of view: to kids, he's a massive transformer with "tons" of articulation, plus he acts as a big playset (for which TFs are severely lacking)for Headmasters and Legends (and Deluxes, even) with honestly endless possibility as far as different, fan-made city modes go. For instance, Mini-bot loves him dearly, and plays with him with other figures very often.


I totally agree with Movie Dev, though. That thing disappointed everybody

Well for a top 10 'disappointments' list, you've gotta go in expecting something. Sideswipe was near the end of probably one of the worse Transformers mainlines to date; sure, he was the worst toy in the line, but were you really expecting much to begin with?

Admittedly, a 'disappointments' list would be heavily geared towards CHUG figures because that's where you're expecting a good update of a toy/character that both looks good and has good articulation. For, say, Cybertron Backstop, he's a new character that hit the shelves before he got any characterisation so you can't exactly expect much. He was bad, yes, but did he disappoint you? Were you expecting much?
I suppose we could also lump in figures that are the main toyline for a work of fiction but came out long after we had fallen in love with their characters. So WFC/FOC, Prime, IDW?

My point is, even if it's the worst figure you've ever had; if it didn't set a bar to begin with, then it didn't fall that far.

TR Galvatron is near the top of the list for me. He looked so amazing leading up to release then I got him and it was a total bummer. I dont hate the fig, but it's one of my bigger letdowns.

Galvatron would totally be on that list. I would say gen Windblade as well, since she was hyped to no end.

So far I got TR Fort Max, ROTF Devastator, Windblade, Galvaron and... MP Tracks? I know there is a recency effect here but as Kurona said, we can only be truly dissapointed when we expect something, and that expectation can only happen over time.

Although to be fair, Beast Wars Dinobot really dissapointed me as a kid, looking nothing like the show in robot mode and being kind of puny.

This does make putting together a list of disappointments a little more tricky. Are you going for only "consensus" disappointments in the fandom, or more personal disappointments? The latter might be infinitely more nuanced. For example, your disappointment over Beast Wars Dinobot is an interesting case, because for all intents and purposes, the toy came out FIRST. Then a CG model was developed for a tie-in television show afterwards. Your first exposure to the character, though, was on TV, and not on a store shelf, so it created expectations for something that the toy was doomed never to live up to. That's a lot more interesting to me than a list of 5 or 10 figures that people think are overpriced for the quality produced.

Sorry, saw your post after I made my initial reply.

So I watched two reviews for TR Perceptor (those of Optibotimus and Baltmatrix) and...I'm not too impressed.

The Microscope mode has no real spot for the Headmaster outside of the tray (so he can examine...himself?), his legs look worryingly hollow and the tank mode, whilst a nice touch, looks a bit...underwhelming. Also he seems to have difficulty standing up and that slidey bar assembly for the microscope/cannon looks like a breakage waiting to happen. A shame, because I like Perceptor, but something about the new toy just doesn't look quite right. I'll reserve judgment until the good folks here have him in hand, of course, but I'm not convinced so far.

Topspin on the other hand looks amazing. Hopefully we'll get a Twin Twist to go with him.

Though given we still haven't gotten a TR Frenzy (or rather, a Rumble in the correct colours) or an Eject in spite of them being straight redecos of each other...I'm a bit worried.

As we have seen before from toy concept designer and artist Emiliano Santalucia, we now have another look at the ideas and sketches behind a figure in the Transformers Titans Return line: Skullsmasher, now also available as Krok! The croco-tastic robot can be seen in the images below, showing the initial idea for the cockpit (in the beast head), preliminary transformation, and the back panel that became a removable tail. Check them out!

That is some seriously neat artwork. As much as I love what we got, I'm a little sad we didn't get something a little closer to that.

Remember how long it took Hb/Takara releasing the Legend sized Insecticons? I wouldn't hold my breathe for Twintwist.

The alligator head as the chest I love, but I love the tail gun we have now.

I love that detailed sketch. I think one of my favorite things about Titan Masters is all that detail in the molded plastic, especially in the military vehicles.

The cockpit in the mouth is reminiscent of the original Skullcruncher would have looked good but would have required a much bigger body/head leading to a much more wonky body proportions. 3rd party dealt with this but then we have to deal with a higher price point.

Also, using the croc head as the chest would deviate further from his lore established looks.

This would indeed be a perfect world were the conceptual illustrations would be 100% translated into a practical functional form

TR G2 Optimus Prime seems a little off to me
Anyone does have their TR Optimus repainted to Nemesis Prime? or Black Convoy?
