You don't know that. If it hadn't happened in '84, that doesn't mean it couldn't have happened between then and now, or just happen now. Until there's actually a way to see into alternate timelines, your claim is little more than hyperbole.

Also, the Transformers franchise would have been scrapped without Beast Wars revitalizing it, but twenty years later there's still people ready to get on your case if you show signs of even tolerating it.

But FYI, he's not saying there's something wrong wit the past. He's saying it's just that: the past. Things aren't the way they used to be because they can't be that way anymore.

It's always fascinated me that this of all fandoms should cope so poorly with change.

Indeed, I mean, isn't Japan's cultural foundation based on transforming mecha

I'll give an amen to that! Its the one thing I've always thought of whenever a new style is introduced like with the introduction of Animated or the current Robots in Disguise series.

You have to admit though, Animated was pretty far out there aesthetically... But, I think the source of many peoples dislike of it, was it came out right on the heels of the first movie. The first movie was a massive change for the franchise, aesthetically, and quite a few people weren't sure what to make of it. They may have been afraid that this was the way the line was going to go from then on, and I think people were really hoping that the next show would interject some 'normalcy' from the 'bay-former' aesthetic - which it absolutely did not do in the slightest.

I get where stu is coming from. I may not like all these "retool" (or whatever it is the term used)direction Hb/TT has gone by. I kind of prefer the way Legends Springer and Sandstorm were done. I wasn't the "lazy" style used on the combiners. Let's admit it, though I appreciate how each had their own "head sculpt", the cars like Deadend/Breakdown and Wildrider all look alike. At least in the G1 versions, they had different robot transform sequences but standard limb forms.

Then again, for pragmmatic reasons, they (Hb/TT) have to do that. And getting the bottom line for Hb and TT means more figures for us in the long run.

Just imagine if they do? Why am I including this? Well, the comic book is also another aspect of introducing/advertising a product. I do miss the days of Jim Shooter and Bob Budiansky with the More than Meets the Eyes limited and the Headmaster Limited which was seamlessly (well at that time's standards) integrated into the main storyline.

TT has more of a better history of retconing the current products with the G1 lore( no matter how head busting it may be)

I still find it stupid when people write stuff like this, especially when they dont seem to know what a bird looks like.

Wolfman Jake wrote:
Sabrblade wrote:Your pics agree with what I said. The wings are on the bottom of those shuttles' bodies. Astrotrain's wings, however, are on the top of his shuttle's body.

Yeah, it's definitely a design compromise. Real world wings would be seated near the bottom of the shuttle fuselage, not the top. I think the way the toy is designed, however, hides the massive kibble beneath the elevated wings. If the wings were lower, they'd be obscured almost entirely by the robot armature and other kibble, making them look rather infeasible as working, aerodynamic wings. Putting all the junk on the bottom isn't a real world solution, obviously, but it helps Astrotrain at least look the part a little more convincingly, IMO.

It's a cybertronian shuttle guys, there is no reason for it to resemble an earth vehicle more than it currently does. If anyone wants a better looking shuttle, there's the G1 version and the classics version.

Stuartmaximus wrote:& you miss the fact that Ravage is just a repainted Stripes render! & it'll no doubt be repainted again....for Steeljaw
now what was it a while back that one of the staff said on this thread :-?
ah.....yes.....that there wouldn't hardly BE any repaints in this line.

You know what helps, quoting people. Show me the quote that says that and then we can talk like grown ups.

Well aso with the exception of the microchange line. Which means the first 2 years of Transformers are all redecos of previous toys. Even Omega Supreme is a redeco of a pre-existing toy. So is Shockwave. The seekers are the worse. Here is the original toy:
Image

So they took that toy and turned him into Starscream and then they redeco'd that into more seekers:
Image
And then they made 3 new seekers that had new molds for the wings, the coneheads. So the coneheads are 3 retools or redecos of an unoriginal toy. This is less original than anything that Hasbro ever did since then. If you have any evidence that would prove that any period in Transformers history is less original than this G1 example I just presented, then please present it.
The truth is that Hasbro has ALWAYS been about releasing the most toys possible for the least amount of cost. The initial G2 line is only redecos of G1 for crying out loud, why are we still having this discussion.

PS: Now to debunk two other myths, there is no G1 toy that is completely diecast, and Takara principaly makes toys for kids and not collectors.

I'm actually fairly certain you're the one who said that hasbro was stated as saying this, 'round NY Toyfair, it was one of the interview questions, wasn't it?

first of all....why should WE be talking? specifically! as i gave no indication to whom i were referring to >:oP (ok.... eventually Hellscream worked out that the quote probably did come from you, to which you confirmed it.)

now it were Hellscream that made that connection! not i, so your flying off the handle at me....is unwarranted.

& you clearly don't know your smilies! coz this one :-? which was at the end of my comment, probably makes that more of a question rather than a statement(to which you regarded it as!) coz how often is that particular smilie used at the end of a statement?

talk like grown ups? does this mean that you weren't talking like a grown up when you gave your response>:oP

& you clearly can't read either! otherwise you would've noticed in my conversation with Hellscream, that i was all ready for giving up on that topic in question! but yet you seek to have it continue, to which in turn will cause further disruption to the flow of this thread >:oP

StuartMaximus - williamjames88: please stop going against each other.

I understand there is frustration on both sides, but that does not mean you are allowed to derail a thread simply to attack each other and vent passive aggressive opinions.

StuMax, if you have an issue with one of my members of staff, please contact me directly (or them, via PM). This multi platform public 'shaming' attitude you've been using of recent is starting to tire us all on staff, so please, bring it to a close.

WJ88, please remember that frustration should not be taken out onto users. No name calling, no challenging to demonstrate proof, no silly behaviour.

Thank you both.

Not to pull rank here ('cause you know, Forum Admin), but Stu, if you or any other members have a problem with a staff member, bring it directly to myself or one of the other forum moderators, which is Cobotron or Rodimus Prime (or even better, use the "Report this Post" button). Please guys, don't get into a back and forth about it, it's just a big headache then.

It probably happens more than you think but I digress.

I just noticed something amusing, buzzsaw has a air beast mode and a land vehicle mode...whereas stripes is the complete opposite.

Also can the titan masters ride the cassettes in vehicle mode?

I still find it stupid when people write stuff like this,
Well aso with the exception of the microchange line.

but yet you still find the time & get away with....calling me an aso! >:oP

I'm pretty sure now you are deliberately misreading what people are putting as it looks like will meant to write also instead of aso. Relax stu, not everyone is out to get you and things on the Internet are not as harsh as they appear.

Yes, I meant also. The initial years of G1 have no new molds because they are molds taken from Diaclone and also from Microchange. So nothing from those initial G1 years was actually new.

Sorry if you thought I was name calling. As a peace offering, here is the actual quote from John Warden about the use of redecos/retools in TR:

I tried my best to make sure they were sensible redecos and repaints that were character focused and made sense appropriate within the Transformers universe. For "Titans Return" we are going to try our best to keep as many new or partially new retools as we can because we're actually entering a different era of Transformers right? '87 had a lot of big Transformers so we're trying to reconcile that going forward.

This is a transcript of an oral quote so it must be looked at in that context, the sentences are not complete and it's unclear if he is speaking of CW or TR in the first part. The general idea is that Titans Return will have as many retools and redecos as the Generations lines of the past had (like FOC for example) but nothing crazy like Combiner Wars. And the redecos should make sense. Like Stripes and Ravage since the original Stripes "is an orange, silver, and black tiger-based redeco of Ravage, included with Encore Twincast and Nightstalker"- tf wiki

Also, something interesting, I now understand what that odd wing design in the back of stripes is supposed to emulate:

Also can the titan masters ride the cassettes in vehicle mode?

I think it was discussed several (dozen? Hundred?) pages ago that the Legends figs would have a peg on them that fit into the feet of the Titan Masters. Here's the peg on Buzzsaw:

So, yeah, I agree with you, WJ88.

Ravage is okay, but Astrotrain really shines here.
