Really? It was mentioned several times as a probable repaint when the mold was first announced.

Even I did. :-P

Hold on, I can see where Will was confused. The fans had been talking about wanting the Megatron alligator and the Bat Prime. There was some confusing here and now he thinks they were talking about that alligator abomination from that 1 G1 episode. So he's not going crazy, things just got lost in translation :MAXIMAL:

Thanks, but Emerge is saying that fans wanted an alligator prime since it was first announced. I am not saying thats not true, but it is news to me. And it might be simply because I am not aware of alligator prime and thus nothing registered when I saw it written.

What I remember is people asking for Bat Primal and Crocodile Megs but then again those are toys/characters I know well.

Without the repaints there would be no new molds.

Just accept that with new molds there have to be repaints. They need to make money off of the new molds. The way to do that is to repaint them.

If they don't repaint them they make no money, and then we get no new molds.

So yeah, enough with the "ohhh repaints..dread" thing. Just accept it's a necessity in this hobby and move along.

with that said, repainting MindWipe into Prime, and Skullcruncher into Megs and sell them in a beastwars anniversary set would be a great idea. It practically sells itself.

I'd much rather get silly obscure-reference alligator repaints over, say, redoing Chromedome as every other '84 Autobot car not covered in Combiner Wars. I mean either way we're getting repaints, might as well go for something we can't get in literally every other line...

You know something? I can see myself finishing with new generations figures once we pass the Rebirth characters. Other than Overlord, I don't really fancy or care about the 88 guys onwards. Heck, I don't even care about the original targetmasters. So unless they do more Beast Wars.... I can finally see an end to my collecting this line. Something I never thought would happen. And I don't know how I feel about that.

The only G2 that holds nostalgia value is the big green Megatron, I still have that figure after all these years, but Megatron is always a tank now, no new version would inspire me to replace him. Though I like the shows, like Car Robots and Armada, they don't hold enough of a strong place in my heart to get loads of new figures based on them. Or even the original figures beyond what I've got. Car Robots, I have Skybyte and Megatron, but none of the other figures inspired me to get. Same with Armada, I have the ones from the PS2 game and that's all that interested me.

Energon I don't want. Cybertron, there's only a Primus I'm after. Animated and Prime I'm pretty much got the few I wanted.

I may go back and plug a couple holes in my classics (don't have a Hound) but wouldn't be all of the ones I'm missing. I think I would pretty much just focus on specific masterpiece characters (wouldn't be getting them all) and beast wars, old and new.

I also guess this is the wrong thread to talk about this, but it just dawned on me looking at these headmasters that we're finally hitting the end of the G1 toon. Maybe I'll start a thread proper to chat about this.

I mean, it's still not like we've got a CHUG update of everyone.
Insecticons in a non-legend size class, Brawn, Omega Supreme, Scorponok, Predaking and Abominus stick out the most; with other miscellaneous mini-bots, Broadside and the Battlechargers still to get (non-club exclusive) toys.
That's not even counting characters who got gipped with a bad toy before (though of course that's incredibly subjective).

Also, talking about club exclusive toys; I just realized - we got Spinister and Needlenose from TFCC, and now we're apparently getting Quake from Titans Return. That's all three 1988 Decepticon Double Targetmasters. Even though Quake won't have his targetmasters...

Know what? I'd love in a future line or even halfway through TR for the Titan Masters class to get replaced by Targetmasters. I'd love to just buy Firebolt and actual versions of Fracas and Hayfire for Scourge and Blurr.

A lot of the original Car Robots molds are already so good that they don't need any updating, as any updates they'd get in this day and age of simpler engineering would very likely be inferior to the originals.

I'm fine with Insecticons being Legends. They may not be cartoon accurate in height (and in this line what is?), but they're the same size as the G1 figures and that's OK in my book.

Yeah, its fun to still have a line that includes the Legion Class (the old cyberverse). For Titans Return it seems the heads (titanmasters) make up that class now.

I don't know about inferior. I mean, the plastic quality on most of the CW figures was better than what we had been getting for. While with some generations figs, and really the only designs that just don't work from other body types are the Autobot Bros. I'd buy the absolute crap outa most, if not all, Spy Changers. And just about everybody agreed it'd be awesome to get Fire Convoy from the Hotspot figure.

So to your point, maybe they wouldn't be quite the material quality, and they certainly wouldn't be as complex, but they'd still probably be some pretty cool homages to Car Robots/RID01.

G1 is some be-all, end-all, holy grail of tf's. :D

But it'd be awesome to see something new as well. Transformers greatest gift is G1 and it's plethora of 500+ characters, which is something most franchises don't get. The fact that Hasbro hadn't caught on to doing multiple versions of the "main" Transformers roster is what gave us such a massive library of characters from which to continue to revisit. Add to that what we got out of the Beast Wars era and we're good to go for quite a while!
