Because they run a business with the intent to maximize return on investments, and transformer molds are extremely expensive investments?

But Takara is a business that also wants to maximize returns for shareholders and yet they made sure their combiners were more unique, They gave new heads to all their technobots and Hasbro couldnt be bothered. They also gave us new molds for the Unite Warriors line. They are adding more paint to TR Blurr. They also gave a voyager Grimlock for the Adventure line (which granted, was a retool) which can be bought individually and is in no way exclusive, and they run the entire MP line. And, like Hasbro, their primary market is kids too. But they have pride in their work and believe that kids deserve more. Case in point, these toys are sold to the same audience at the same price but the difference is striking:

So I dont take the excuse that Hasbro must run things a certain way (what does anybody here know?!), Takara is proof that you can put some more effort and still run a business that generates viable profit. They sold their Devastator for the same price as Hasbro's, and yet Hasbro didnt want to use their added articulation for "cost reasons", meaning that Takara is willing to take a smaller cut but deems it worth it for their reputation.

Takara and Hasbro operate in different markets and have different operating standards and corporate overheads. Takara is comfortable taking a lower profit percentage than Hasbro, due to a combination of cultural differences and market competition.

Besides, my point was purely about mold reuse, not paint applications or level of detail. Takara does that as well, as do all toy companies. The more elaborate your mold, you need to sell it for a high price or reuse it. Don't lash out at me because you misunderstood my post.

Do we have evidence of this? Has it actually been mentioned by Hasbro that the drop test was done on Metroplex? Because Hasbro is on the record for saying that the current drop test...
only pertains to a flying toy
- http://bwtf.com/events/toyfair2016-roundtable-interview

I wouldn't take that quote as gospel since it doesn't really make sense.
Drop mostly...only pertains to a flying toy which Fortress Maximus is not. It's a ship he turns into...as you can tell by the aircraft ramps.

Are we talking G1 Fort Max or TR Fort Max wasn't part of the drop test? He's not a flying toy, but he's a ship? So are we saying TR FM is a boat or a spaceship because it's basically the same as the G1 figure's spaceship mode complete with ramps? The way Ben transcribed this makes it hard to understand the subject of the comment. If the brand manager doesn't even know his own figure turns into a spaceship then just how well versed is he in the brand's history? He's only been on the team since 2014(-ish) and Metroplex was released in August of 2013 with photos of completed figures appearing as early as May so testing would have likely taken place even earlier than that. The chances he'd know how figures before his time were tested seem unlikely and there wouldn't be a whole lot of necessity to retest the figure as thoroughly again. And really, does it matter if it flies or not for the TR figure? If a kid picks it up to carry it and it weighs around 12 pounds there's going to be a crash if they drop it.

william-james88 wrote:These rules change all the time though so it could be that at some point that was the case. But it wasnt the case back in 87 and it sure isnt the case now. Which means that Hasbro could reissue the original right now. But they wont because its not worth it. Has nothing to do with the drop test (as if kids could afford a 400$ reissue).

No, you've got this wrong. In 2002 Brave Maximus (under the name Fortress Maximus) was scheduled to be an FAO Schwartz exclusive from Hasbro, but was canceled when it failed the drop test. Furthermore, in 2004 at OTFCC Hasbro was asked about reissuing Fortess Maximus to collectors to which they were adamant that they will never reissue Fortress Maximus because it wont pass safety laws. It's very rare for the laws to be loosened. Who their intended buyer is does not override safety laws, if it did then the reissues wouldn't have those giant missiles, Optimus Prime wouldn't have short stacks, and Masterpiece Megatron would have been released a decade ago. Hasbro won't reissue Fort Max today because they can't, not because it isn't worth it to them.

Yeah your right, your post wasnt about that. My post wasnt meant to be lashing out to you though, more of using your post as a springboard to my confusion over why the two companies have different costs for similar toys when both have shareholders to answer to. The retool idea brought me back to combiner wars vs Unite Warriors and that reawoke some of my frustration with the line. But please know that nothing was meant against you, I very much appreciate all your input (in all threads ;) ).
The cultural difference is truly interesting though.

They are reissuing Classics Megatron though, right? Wouldnt that be a safety measure that has changed? I was just extrapolating off what was written. The quote (which I did indeed take as the gospel since it's the most recent info we have) brought in that new flying vehicle factor that I had never heard of before, letting me know that maybe a rule had changed. I understand that a rule prohibited something from being released before, but what if it changed? The rule for Classics Megatron must have changed, right? So maybe the drop test too? Hasbro's toy team evolves and changes. We were once told we would never have headmasters again but the team changed and here we are with headmasters. And if the new Fort Max didnt need to pass the drop test then probably the mold he is based on didnt either. But yes it all stems from that quote which may or may not be fact. But then again I do find it very odd for John Warden to say this if it wasnt true. I understand that I am going all out on this one quote, betting all my chips on it, and ignoring other things in the process, but can situations not evolve. I mean, that quote still does exist nomatter how little sense it makes to you.

This is a fun discussion guys, thanks for contributing

I don't care why Brave Max didn't get released 15 years ago. >:oP

Base modes: outside of Fort Max and the Leaders, who else thinks it'd be cool to see sets with a Titan Master that included a bigger vehicle that turned into a base component? Think DotM Cyberverse's potential realized to a greater extent. Yay? Nay?

I would be all over titanmaster vehicles that turned into base components that could be used to customise the base modes more. There is a lot of fun potential that could be had with that, as you could add other accessories that could be added to the bases.

How about this as well? The vehicles could combine into a headless robot as well.

@will, the cultural difference between takara and hasbro is interesting and is something I would like to explore as in our case tf was born from East meets West but in some fans minds it's now East vs West. One other thing I thought of with regards to why hasbro doesn't put the extra effort (money) in to its tf brand is because of how much larger hasbro is.

Really this kind of topic could become it's own thread.

Also the drop tests and the like, is it possible they've found loop holes they can exploit as to why they can do things now?

I mean I always thought the nerf gun megs 'controversy' a bit strange considering hasbro owns nerf.

4. There will be a Titans Return Deluxe Class Topspin

5. The guys from transmissions Speculate that because topspin is getting a figure that there very well could be a deluxe Twintwist as well. Seeing as how their paired action masters But there is no word on this yet if at all

6. During Botcon one of the guys from RadiofreeCybertron asked John warden if there is a chance for a headmaster Arcee. Seeing as how he loves HM Arcee and the response he got was alone the lines of "you'll be happy in 2017" however transmissions podcast can't confirm this yet as they have not heard about this from there source. So it is to be treated as a rumor not from them.

Overlord is enough to make anyone happy in 2017 :D

Not sure how I feel about Skullsmasher becoming Krok... despite the name the guy doesn't really fit having a Crocodile alt mode, he rocked the Generations Megatron Deluxe mold way more.

On the other hand, Quake from Hardhead? Bring that the slag on! :D

And I would love to get Topspin and Twintwist; those guys have got neglected for so long. At least now I won't have to settle for their FOC combaticons repaints.

Woooo, more Kup!

Yay all the live long day. Cyberverse was so much fun, and yielded some of the best Legions and Commanders (Scout/Legends) to date. The concept of environments has always been a big focus for my collecting, as I view my collection displays as dioramas more than anything else. I'm constantly trying to find or build set pieces for my bots, and I love it when a toy line gives it to me out of the box. I am all for any concept that not only gives the population, but also gives you the world to populate. MOWAR BASES PLEASE! :-D

Well... he got a main role in the movies. I'd wager marketing sees 'fan favourite' as 'guy a lot of people know and don't hate with their guts'.

I mean hey, he's this fan's favourite for killing off one of the movie characters.
