1. What's wrong with the scorpion mode? It's the scorpion equivalent of Trypticon's dinosaur mode, and it's got great big crushing pincers and much better looking mandibles than the G1 toy's helmet provides. Making the tail different would require a radical redesign of his robot and base modes. Are you talking about the scorpion legs? They're admittedly just as bunched up as before, but at least now they've got multiple joints.
2a. How is the head a bubblehead if it's no wider than the central panel of his chest, and the height is in proportion to that? Not to mention the area between the head and either shoulder is almost as wide as the head is.
2b. Scorponok's design always had somewhat stocky legs. They're hardly tiny, especially if you actually count the feet in that height. And they're as long as they possibly could be with him also having to include the scorpion tail.
3. The ankles
have to be that way so that his having ankle tilts doesn't interfere with the feet folding up for base mode and scorpion mode. They could potentially have hidden them with panels, but there's the issue of plastic limits and of getting those panels out of the way in altmode. I'm pretty sure that Omega Supreme's ankle tilts look much the same under the hood - can anyone confirm?
In any case, I'm confident Scorponok's ankles are
not going to have breakage issues like the hips on early TR Trypticon batches. Those breakages were caused by HasTak using overpowered springs, and I'm reasonably certain that no spring small enough to fit inside Scorpy's ankle ratchets can be
that strong.
