He's the stunticon I was expecting the most and he looks EPIIIIIIIC!
And that Arm mode looks incredible. Also, this is probably not for everyone, but oone of the photos is from the underside of the package and it says Hasbro Brazil! THEY'RE COMING TO BRAZIL! YES!
I'm now verily excited for 2015 ^^

But I would argue that the Universe "Special Edition" redeco of Classics Mirage was a better Drag Strip toy than G1 Drag Strip on account of the Classics Mirage mold being an awesome figure in and of itself.

It's a relatively minor quibble, but I kind of miss the full bio on the back of the card. I realize they're going for internationality and I'm all for spreading the love, I just like reading the inventive things that lines like Generations have been coming up with for the character bios.
That aside, really looking forward to Combiner Wars.

Maybe the bio's in the instructions. Or maybe the included comic is supposed to take the place of the bio since it'd provide more material than a bio would.Shuttershock wrote:Looks good! You can probably still reverse them for an accurate figure. I kind of like having the cockpits in front, forming a knee spike and not getting in the way of the leg bend.

Or maybe it's the fact that's the International version, the U.S hasbro Release will have a comic and a full bio becuase in America the onl language we speak is Engrish.

I'd second that, since CHUG Mirage was fantastically articulated.
Still, it's nice for Dragstrip to have a good-looking solid mold that was specifically for him.

As I understand, the US version doesn't get the Universe-style card, which is kind of disappointing. It kind of reminds me of how the 3rd party Stunticons all had little cards with first person bios. Oh well, stilled pumped to see these guys.

Collecting TFs has been rather...depressing of late. I mean, MPs at roughly 2 a year are nice, but I don't want everything I want to buy being expensive collector grade stuff. Combiner wars is finally bringing back good little toys that sit happily on a toy shelf and you can throw £15 at every so often or when you feel you can afford to, or even spot that one you've been after....
Oh, wait, generations don't come to my area! Best TRU ever did was the first and second wave of FOC. No thrilling 30 gen stuff is anywhere. Which is a shame. 'collecting' is a lot less fun ordering online, especially when P+P charges make you feel like buying in bulk. Gone are the days of hunting down that final limb. Man that was fun back in the day. Wish the UK would sort itself. I have a Tesco, Sainsburys, entertainer and a Smyths toys all within walking distance and they don't even have AOE generations. Just one step and shampoo bottles.
Combiner wars toys look like they'd be fun and perfectly easy for kids. Shame that it won't be on shelves here, or that marketing feels it has to have such a divide in products and demographic. Why can't PRID15 be these guys?

I'm a little younger (29), but damn these 2 combiners make happy. So do the Masterpieces nowadays. And Arcee, joyfull stuff.
Dragstrip looks great, I love Stunticons. Very excited about the line.

If they do make Seacons I actually kinda want them to make Tentakil a fembot. I dunno, it just...works.

I also note they only gave him 4 wheels. I understand why that was for the Mirage redeco, but g1 version having 6 wheels was just so weird that it somehow added to the character in some weird way. Not a complaint, mind you, just an observation.

Down_Shift wrote:I think it's just an artistic choice. I don't think anyone has anything against a 6-wheel race car but they still target these at kids and probably want them as close to something kids can identify as possible. (which lends to why we have Off-Road instead of Wildrider)
I expect some kind of in-story justification to go along with Offroad also. RID#33 gave us the reason for Alpha Bravo taking Slingshot's place, so something along those lines.

Don't all modern f-1 cars have four wheels? As has been said it's something kids will recognise.

I consider the repaint of Classics Mirage to Drag Strip a clever toy, but not the greatest since it's a repaint.

They are also more than likely designed to only have the knee bend in one direction. That would mean that turning them around to be more G1 accurate would also reverse the knee itself.Shuttershock wrote:JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:Did anybody notice on the Superion schematic the legs are reversed? Delta Magnus wrote:That is a surprisingly cool idea. Honestly though I think the hands and feet could have been executed better in general (although Superion does it much better I will admit). I'm sure a 3P company or someone on ShapeWays will come up with replacements though.
I so agree that the hands and feet could have been done better, but this where the Hasbro cost cutting comes in to make these toys so affordable. I would love the additional detail but Hasbro just can't do it and survive...

G1 Drag Strip is based on a 6-wheel F1 racing car, the Tyrrell P34, which ran in the 70's. Experimental, for sure.

As much fun as that sounds (and now I HAVE to try it when I get them) you have to think of it from a kid's perspective. It would have been fine to make just two hands and two feet if they came with the torso figure like in G1, but they have to do something different when the hands/feet come with the limbs. What happens if the only four limb figures they get come with three hands and one foot? Kinda hard to combine them without all the parts. Personally I like the idea of making them the same part.
I don't think the hands look all that bad. Sure they're big, but the bulk of it is a big armor plate (effectively the top of the foot). If you can mentally strip that part off the hands aren't that big.
And yes, these are the international packages. They've said at SDCC and NYCC that the North American released Deluxe class figures will come with both the full size comic and the card while the other size classes come with a card as well. I'm very skeptical about North American releases coming any time soon since we haven't seen any sign of them in package be it official or leaked. Seems like if we were going to get them in December we'd have seen them by now.

Hell if I know. To me F1 is just the key between F2 and ESC,
I just remembered the original toy is all, and thought it would have been neato to keep that bit of uniqueness in the remake.

Yeah, I think the art for the cards (at least the known characters) come from the Transformers Legends game app, so they're not necessarily identical to the final toy. Still, if it comes packed in anyway then money for old rope I guess.

Couldn't help but notice that leg mode has the foot on backwards. His knee would bend the wrong way if his foot faced that direction.

DMSL wrote:I am sorry but Alpha Bravo gets no love from me. The alt mode just annoys the crap out of me. I still don't like this whole line either. The idea is awesome but the execution is poor. I don't understand why Hasbro is taking a step back and making less articulated figures with simplistic transformations. On top of that they lack detail and paint aps all over and have way too many hollow parts. The combined hand/foot is also not doing it for me.
Lol what? The alt mode looks rather good actually, it's just lacking landing gear. How exactly is the execution poor? Where are people getting that these are somehow less articulated? It has a head swivel at the very least, it also has ball jointed hips and shoulders, swivels at the biceps and thighs, hinges at the knees and elbows and waist rotation. It seems to me that compared to standard deluxe figures, it has one more point of articulation and that being the waist joint and EVERY limb bot will have that. The combined modes have universal shoulders and hips, bicep swivels, double jointed elbows, wrist swivels, thumb and slight hand articulation, knee hinges and possibly thigh and waist swivels depending on the torso.
Hasbro has been doing simplified transformation for a few years now so that's nothing new. Where do you see it lacking in detail? Both robot mode and helicopter mode seem to have plenty of detail throughout. It also has a lot of paint on it. More than I've seen in a while on a deluxe actually. The entire chest is painted that color, the head and eyes are painted, the multitude of windows on the cockpit are all painted as is the underside and lets not forget the blue stripes on the sides and the missiles if they're not a separate piece to the lower arms. It also doesn't look any more hollow than Classics Astrotrain is considering it seems to transform almost the exact same way. However, I can see why people don't like the hand/foot design but I like it.
I really don't see what more people would want out of these. It they did any more to them they'd have to sell the deluxes at voyager prices and the voyagers at ultra prices. That won't work at all for Hasbro. People seem to think that they can just load up on big box figures but they can't because of how brick and mortar stores work their shelving spaces out. They'd never be able to sell two combiners at eight voyagers and two ultra/leader/weaponizers/whateverthey'recallednow. They just don't have the same luxuries that third party companies have but at the same time they have more in other areas. It's just that the less luxuries they have mean that they can't get every single figure perfect every single time. Some shortcuts and cost cutting measures need to be taken in order for Hasbro to continue to do anything. The funny thing though is that I don't see many cost cutting measures with these new combiner wars figures. They really do look great.
Are people still just hating on this guy simply because he's not Slingshot? Get over it already. Hasbro has every right to change and evolve their brand and characters. If you want a Superion that looks 100% like G1 Superion, then just buy yourself a G1 Superion already and shut up about it already. I typed it on another site and someone typed something similar here as well that one of the reasons they've changed one jet into a helicopter and one car into an suv was because parents, the main people buying these, won't understand or want to buy four almost identical toys just for one combiner they might not even know or care about. It's also why they're not selling complete combiner teams at the same time. They're changing the alt modes and colors up enough to make them more appealing on the shelves. They have to think of these as standalone figures because of how their main buyers think. They seemed to have learned their lesson from the movies where they were selling the same alt modes, colors and names every wave and they weren't selling at all by the time the third movie came out. Parents were just tired of buying what they thought was the same toys over and over and over and over and over again.
