Given that Wave 3 of Siege has been hitting retail hard the past 2 weeks, I am gonna guess Long Haul and the rest of his wave will be in stores really soon

Wow!! After all of the nice Siege figures that have been released recently, it really accentuates just how absolutely awful the Bayformers are  This guy looks horrible!

Because, as a collector and a fan since the 80's, I have opinions on what is good and what isn't. I also state my opinions because it's good when the fans voice likes and dislikes, in hopes that it moves towards better future design of these wonderful characters.

If you don't care for my opinion, you are far more than welcome to ignore me. Telling me to scram is neither appreciated nor productive >:oP

What I'd really like to see that I don't think anyone's shown yet is a size comparison between these guys in their limb modes and the corresponding pieces of 2009 Devastator.

Long Haul looks awesome! I won’t be able to go for Devastator, but I think I will be getting a few of the constructions. I’m really excited to see what Mixmaster looks like, hopefully I’ll have him posed next to Ironhide to recreate the boss battle from the DOTM game.

Wonder if we’ll get some early reveals for SS like Siege did or if we have to wait till SDCC.

Most assuredly this will eventually happen.

Yeah easy now scram was retired with the language manual for bullies from the 1950’s let’s all be chill and respect everyone’s opinions. No need to get anachronistically snarky.

I used to dislike them across the board but AOE Prime brought it back for me and I couldn’t help but like the Dinobots designs, not necessarily as the new Dinobots but the designs are pretty neat.

The new Studio series is helping me appreciate these designs now that Bumblebee helped me let go of some of my past disappointments. I’m able to see it in a more positive light these days. I’d say try one before deciding for sure. There had to be one design out of all those you at least liked more than ones you flat out hated right?

"Scram" was not retired, it's been preserved in popular consciousness by Sesame Street etching it into our minds as children :P And I said it because I think at this point it's unproductive and slightly trollish to come into a thread dedicated to a Bayformer line just to basically say "Oh man Bayformer designs are soooo ugly".

I happen to like the Bayformer designs a fair bit and think they're by and large pretty neat, although they're decidedly a bit hard on the designers because of complexity. Especially with the limits of the Studio Series' scale. Still, I like the look of a lot of them, although some ask for things that are beyond the reach of toy designers (*glares at AoE Galvatron and Drift, and BB Shatter and Dropkick*).
I like the creativity some of them show, too, like the unconventional Vehicon-esque designs a lot of the Constructicons have (especially the Wheelbot body type - I really look forward to seeing how the Studio Series handles that).
A lot of the Bumblebee Movie designs bug me because they're playing in the Bayformer sandbox but failing to abide by its established conventions and continuity.

And as this is a discussion thread and not an appreciation thread I hear what you’re saying and I dig it. Nobody’s telling you to beat your feet and hit the bricks its a chat. An inclusive one. So long as points are articulate and not directly hurtful or anything.

Be here to be a fan of stuff, not just talk people down. You’re acting like you’re always late for a basketball game you seem to not be able to wait to dunk on people.

I get that it's a discussion thread, but dropping into a Bayformer thread just to express a fundamental unilateral dislike for them doesn't exactly feel like discussion, and I admit that it set me off...

How do people think the impending Studio Series Leader-class Scavenger will be able to improve on the ROTF Voyager Scavenger/Demolishor design while accommodating Devastator bits?

Personally, I never had the original, but I'm just hoping it manages to be able to stand without the hands holding it up and also be big enough to scale with maybe the legends class Optimus Prime from previous lines

Scavenger is the problem for bot mode scale as he would have to be titan scale himself to be correct, I can live with him being leader Class though.

Looking forward to this guy.

The bayformers made a lot of money and reinvigorated the brand the same as Beast Wars so it holds a special place in my heart. One thing I love about bayformers is the silhouettes are instantly recognizable as different characters for the main cast.

Beyond excited to build the behemoth devastator.

I can understand and appreciate where you are coming from on this, and I must admit that it was a bit of knee jerk reaction on my part, but it was coming from seeing this after having numerous very nice figures coming out of the Siege line recently (Springer, Optimus, Soundwave, Starscream, Jetfire, Omega Supreme, etc.) which in my opinion are superior designs.

In fact, I do collect the Bayformers too because I feel that some are good, but mainly to support Transformers overall, and in hopes that they are around for my children, grandchildren, and many generations in future.

As Stargrave stated well, this is a discussion thread and not an appreciation thread. Not everyone is going to agree on every design, and that is one of the beauties of these forums. In past, there have been plenty of opinions that I have disagreed with, but I wouldn't tell them to scram. My opinions are no more correct than the opinions of fellow users.

I apologise to everyone who is having to read this, and getting off topic, but I feel it's important that these forums are open to ALL opinions without the need for personal attacks.

That all being said, I am looking forward to seeing a complete Devastator

That gave me an idea, I bet he’ll have some sort of stand kinda like what Rampage has that will help him stand. One improvement in particular I’m hoping for is that the robot mode wheels are bulkier, firstly for screen accuracy but also to house some combining components. Considering we don’t see any giant wheels poking out in the images we’ve seen of Devastator, maybe the wheels form the core of the torso that helps hold Mixmaster, Scavenger, and Overload together.

In terms of scale, I think Scavenger’s unconventional design might let him be a fair bit taller than other leader class figures, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Hm... After seeing the leg mode comparison of Rampage to Skipjack, Devastator might actually not be as massive as I thought he'd be. He'll still be huge and definitely an arm workout to move him in combined mode, but I had kind of assumed that he'd dwarf the old 2009 version

don't forget though: Skipjack formed the entire left leg, Rampage only forms the lower part below the knee

The Supreme Devastator doesn't have Overload and his mass to play with, we don't know how much of the legs he'll form. The (presumed) connectors on Rampage and Long Haul aren't the same shape, aren't on the same level and are roughly half up what would be the shin(!). Look at the resin model:

I think maybe it's not that it doesn't seem like it'll be bigger so much as it doesn't seem like it'll be as much bigger as some of us bigger as some of us may have expected; at the very least, that's kinda where I am. With as much money as it'll take to put this thing together and as much time as it'll take for all the pieces to get released, I was hoping this thing would rival Metroplex or Trypticon in size.

Well,to be fair, we'll definitely be getting more plastic with SS Devastator compared to them. And he'll still rival Trypticon because of the size. He just probably isn't going to be as tall as Trypticon at full height

Exactly. Devastator will not rival the titans in terms of height, because he is a squat troll monster type bot. He has no height, merely a ton of depth and width

As true as that is, the combined MSRP of all eight of Devastator's pieces is roughly a hundred dollars higher than the current MSRP for titans, which seems like it'd be enough to cover the extra mass needed to get him somewhere around that height, even taking into account the more complicated engineering required for combiners as opposed to the relatively simplistic transformation typical of city-bots.

Actually the more complicated engineering needed might be what is holding back the height. The taller you go, the more top-heavy it will become, which in turn means the feet have to be bigger for stability, which in turn throws off scale for the leg bots. My guess is that what we are ending up with was the best balance of scale and weight management they could come up with while still fitting things into their size class system.

To commemorate the 35th anniversary of Transformers TakaraTomy Mall is releasing a G1 Optimus Prime with a G1 styled recolor/repaint of Studio Series #38 Optimus Prime in a two pack! This version has fast become a fan favorites after it debuted in Bumblebee last year and is now presented with his original release counterpart. Unfortunately neither cab comes with Prime's iconic trailer. The item is currently listed at $100.00US (10,800Y).

Read the product info from TakaraTomy Mall:
"Beyond the time of 35 years, the original and the latest commander appeared in the set.
Shipped with the pkg image at the time of the nostalgic release of the original convoy that appeared 35 years ago, reproduce the design with a header the image of the car robot format at the time.
Optimus Prime studio series version that appeared in the latest movie, g1 toy version changed the color specification based on the image."

And for that image just check out the pics below. We're also treated to a modern update of Prime's classic box art, this time using the Studio Series Optimus as the model. Be sure to notice new paint details like the red on Studio Prime's torso, the blue on the backs of his hands, the lack of black on his shoulder crests and certain ahem, other areas lacking paint that was present on the original release.

Enjoy the views and share your thoughts with the Seibertron crew in the forums! As always stay tuned to Seibertron for the ultimate in Transformers news.

it's weird how the original deco didn't have any Autobot symbols. But the biggest improvement is the blue paint on his crutch. Like with SIEGE, it was obviously sculpted but left unpainted.

I like both of them as I still very much need the g1 prime and really dig the studio series one. Siege commitments stopped me before however.

the packaging doesn't look like a two pack - which tbh might be better, however I'd rather have had the studio series in a bumblebee movie theme package more than the g1 style.

I think even without the weight/stability concerns, needing to fit things into the size class size system might be enough in and of itself.

Still, the bigger and more impressive this thing is, the better. $260 is a pretty steep price to ask for someone who couldn't even manage to kill Skids and Mudflap. :P (Seriously, for the all the hype he got in the merchandising, Devastator was pretty much useless in the movie. I was disappointed.)

I doubt it. In the movie, he supported himself on all fours, so I'd imagine his arms are about the same length. (I'm tying to find some decent screencaps so I can check, but the process is going rather tediously at the moment.) I can't really imagine why they'd make them uneven. if we're really lucky, maybe they'll give this thing some neck articulation so it can look forwards if it's posed on all fours.

JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:I also wonder who's gonna be the meat in the torso sandwich.

According to the chart in Scrapmetal's instructions, Mixmaster will be the head, Scavenger will be the upper torso, and Overload will be the lower torso. So technically Scavenger, although it looks more like Scavenger and Overload are two scoops of ice cream and Mixmaster is the cherry on top.

The 2-pack is called "Convoy & Optimus Prime Set".

The Convoy reissue included in this set is basically the same as Hasbro's recent Walmart exclusive Vintage G1 reissue, complete with both guns and no trailer, but with the text on the packaging changed from resembling the classic English packaging to the classic Japanese packaging.

That's what it was that was weird looking about SS-38. Well repro to the rescue.

It's weird, I like somethings better and somethings less. The blue crotch and back of hands, yes; the torso no. It's a fantastic mold regardless.

Except maybe for the yellow markings on his arms I think I like everything better on the new edition. But not enough to go through the whole rigmarole of replacing it. And like you said it's a great mold regardless. (Even if sometimes parts pop out, sigh! His head base and the snakes on his shoulders could have used pins or something..)

I just noticed the yellow arrows, that is a nice touch.

Get these monkey fighting snakes off my Monday to Friday shoulders! I like those painted as well. I also like the darker grey plastic used on SS-38, but the painted hip flaps look better in the alt mode of this new exclusive.

So with enough money and some parts swapping, one could have the ultimate Bee Prime or just wait for the inevitable MP ;)

I prefer the original studio series. Even though I like the autobot symbol, I had to put my own, but I'm really irritated by this new release not having any chrome

That Takara 2-pack is one hell of a NEAT special edition. Contrary to a 200$ gold G1 Prime stuck on a base with a pile of cardboard, this 2 pack is legit awesome. The box of the special SS Optimus is pure genius!

Still, having already G1 Optimus, I wish there were a cheaper version with the SS special Geewun Optimus alone.

Hey G1OPT1MU5PR1M3 that trailer looks nice, which Prime did SS-38 steal that from? A little silver on the wheels and it'd be a perfect match.

Well curiosity got the better of my cat and I slapped some stickers on Bee Prime. Not sure about the clown nose though. I do like the "mass shifting" shoulder symbol, even if the placement is a little sketchy 8-}

The box is almost worth the price of admission ;)^

Yeah! Just added the Autobot tattoo to his shoulder, too!

More like oblivious, amiright? 8-}

Nice shoulder tat, CP. Did our Primes go out drinking last night and make bad decisions?

That's Captain to you [-(

I like his better too, but I like the size and centering of mine better. I used what I had. Guess it's time to go to toyhax and place an order. Been wanting some of those pricey silver outline stickers for a while anyway.

I'll Captain you!!

Also, yeah, yours being smaller centers more with that giant tab. I sees it.

And, I want that Takara 2 pack, for the boxes alone!! And also since I don't have SS38 yet.
