Armada Megatron just keeps looking better and better

Hey look, on the packaging and booklet. They're actually calling him "BLACK CONVOY" in English text instead of "Scourge". Previous Legends toys used the Hasbro names in English with the original Takara names in Japanese, but here, the original Takara name is used in both Japanese and English.

However, something else of notice is on the booklet. Despite having the correct Combatron insigina, and despite the RID 2001 English dub calling him a "Decepticon", the name of his faction is written in English here as "PREDACON". Whoops.

There's no "Predacons" in Car Robots either (only Cybertrons, Destrongers, and Combatrons), so nothing was stopping them from using "Decepticon" just as they used "Predacon". Besides, the insignia used is for "Combatron". The Destronger insignia was , which was not used for this toy. So they could have easily gotten away with claiming that " = Decepticon"

I want to like that Armada Megatron, but I just don't. Something's way off about it in my mind's eye, even more so than the Hasbro one. The waist feels too purple, but it's also possible I'm not remembering the show model correctly.

Except that "Combatron" was treated more as a sub-group in the toyline: the box for CR Black Convoy still says "Destronger" on the side. And apparently because of the symbol used, they equated the Japanese Destronger with the US Predacons and therefore, through lack of an actual US name for the Combatron symbol (maybe Renegade?), they named Black Convoy (not Scourge) a Predacon too. Woops.

Also is it just me that loves it when Jelze and Sabr are bouncing TF knowledge off eachother? It's awesome.

Had a couple minutes to go look back at the show's animation model. It's the amount of purple on the chest of this Takara one that's bugging me. Entirely too much. I daresay the Hasbro one is closer to "correct", especially given that neither version did the two-toned "ears" properly.

Yea, the purple areas of the upper chest should have been black. Also, yes, the ears should have some orange, but if I had to choose just one of the colors, I think I prefer the complete grey over complete orange.

At any rate, the Hasbro Armada Megatron is quite nice (if clearance-bound)... but this one is just too tempting for me to pass up.

Yeah, the ears are meant to be two-toned - gray on the interior part closer to his head (ala the Takara release) and orange on the edges (like the Hasbro one). They're both just solid colors instead. Adding to the annoyance is that both the original Armada and Micron Legend toys got this part "right"!

The horns were predominately gray, though, with orange only highlighting a portion of each horn (at least in the show, that is). If they had to be either solid color, sacrificing the secondary color in the process, gray would be the correct one to go with, especially since the horns were indeed solid gray in the show before Megatron scanned his Earth mode:

DAMN, I better stop dragging my feet on pre-ordering these three! Even with Slipstream's vestigial-vindblade-turbines, a glance at these color samples would make you think these were original molds intended for these characters all along!

It's interesting that they kept all of Arcee's weapon tooling for nightbird, yet it seems Windblade's sword's been removed from Slipstream. It also seems TFA blackarachnia's claw thingy's been removed as well.

Now that I see her color scheme, I'm really liking Blackarachnia. Might have to get her.

These figures do look amazing in living color. Slipstream's colors are absolutely gorgeous. Blackarachnia's coloring has sold me on this new remold as well. Nightbird looks a bit bland with all that gray, but that's they way she looked in the cartoon, so I can't fault Takara on that.

Oopsie........I suck at Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry BIG time Wish we got more close ups though. Liking Nightbird Shadow and Slipstream. Blackwidow not too much but will still take her thats for sure.

Well, that's Black Arachnia and Slipstream pre-ordered. I was always gonna grab BA, but dang if Slipstream don't look good. And not having that mould, it makes sense.

I LOVE this Blackarachnea, but I'm pissed. It likely means we won't see an original screen accurate mold. It's stunning, but not the one I wanted.

Is anyone having nostalgia off the charts after seeing these epic figures?

My thoughts exactly! If Takara knew Hasbro had one planned or in the works, they wouldnt have gone out of their way for this one.

I think the positive we can take away from this is that if we ever get a CHUG Tarantulas, him and BA will have different toolings on your Beastwars Reedun shelf.

I... I love that blackarachnia. that is all I have to say. For a retool of the Animated mold, she's so amazingly close to her BW show model. Not *perfect* but damned *close*. As for Slipstream, again I feel like the main thing keeping me from buying her is her inherited balance issues. I really like her colored but she does me no good if she can't stand on her own two feet.

Absolutely. Its still an amazing figure and she'll be welcome on my BW shelf

Blackarachnia is sooo epic,Slipstream is epic as well and Nightbird is nice.
