Episode #166 "Toy Fair 2017" is available directly and in our RSS Feed, and should appear on iTunes and Stitcher Radio within 24 to 48 hours of when you see this news post.
Seibertron was at Toy Fair to bring the latest and greatest images to your screen. Check out Seibertron's show room photography and official images of the show's awesome reveals HERE.
We start Toy Fair talk with the show stopping Trypticon. Starscream and Megatronus, who were on site at Hasbro's show space in New York, provide some first hand opinions of the monstrous kaiju on display - from the included Full-Tilt deluxe figure & Titan Master Necro to Tryp's Titan Master-munching gimmick. Is the rest of the crew sold?
Hungry Hungry Trypticon
We check out the contents of the upcoming Chaos on Velocitron and Siege on Cybertron box sets, featuring diecast Rodimus and Thunderwing Titan Masters, respectively. Likely modeled after the recent Combiner Wars sets, will the same concept work for Titans Return? Looking at Quickswitch, Nautica, Tidal Wave, and the other individual figures: which hit the right stride, and which are simply forgettable?
Nope.
There were plenty of other notable Transformers figure reveals besides Titan Trypticon: a new Windblade figure is coming down the pipe, Topspin is getting his Twintwist, and the remaining Decepticon phase sixers and triple changers have finally (if expectedly) been revealed. Are these reasons to celebrate, or is the Twincast crew focused on other priorities?
The boys are back in town.
Taking a brief break from toy reveals, the crew discusses the Power of the Primes vote, and the next Prime of Cybertron: Optimus Primal. That's right, the fans have spoken, and the famed Beast Wars leader, representing 'Chaos' will lead. Is the crew psyched, or can whispers of Deathsaurus be heard in the distance?
With a rebel yell...
Forged to Fight, the upcoming mobile fighting game by Kabam, creators of the ever-popular Marvel Contest of Champions, was also on our minds this weekend. A new trailer is out, and the good folks at Kabam held a special preview event over Toy Fair weekend to showcase the gameplay. Are we in for another mobile sensation, a la Earth Wars?
Fight!
Back to toys: Toy Fair 2017 featured some extremely exciting reveals for Transformers: The Last Knight. While Movie Masterpiece figures and a handful of new voyager toys are nice, there's one character in particular that seems to be on everyone's mind. All. Hail. Megatron.
4th time's the charm!
Time for some Toy Fair superlatives. The Twincast crew embarks on a discussion of favorite reveals, disappointments, biggest surprises, and what we were surprised not to see at the show. There are some interesting selections, so listen in to find out what we thought of Toy Fair overall.
Because Bumblebee.
Bragging Rights is here. What has everyone gotten since their last recording?
Until next time!

- the clones will all be in boxsets, none will be released as singles at retail
- the boxsets are $100 USD
- Tidal wave cant have a helmet, he's a voyager, they dont have helmets. So it cant be a scourge head under a helmet and thus its a new head.

I don't think there's a right way to answer that.
No?

Yup, but its encouraged to interact here with the cast right?
Anyways, I really liked when Scotty scoffed at people calling out "retool" right away before looking into things. Its one of my biggest pet peeves and I am glad to know I am not the only one.
Glad to know you guys caught that Quickswitch will have a different helmet, I hope Ryan is happy. Also, like Scotty, I too am surprised we are getting Quickswitch as the redco and not the more obvious Greatshot, which I would have preffered since that is exactly what the G1 toy was.
Cant believe rotorstorm missed a "Bot Shots part deux" joke.
I dont see the problem with the kid oriented combiners. We just got a ton of combiners geared for older kids, some being the same combiners even. So now we have a budget version. And plus, for all those who want to relive the G1 combienrs with simple transformations and lack of articulation, well you get your wish.
However I totaly get and agree with Scotty's point of it being more interesting to get the new animalistic decepticons rather than getting simplified combiners.

BURN! BURN IS IN THIS! MY LOVE MY DARLING MY BULLY!
I'm going to keep defending my Legends Windblade, and I have no real reason to do so, other than I really like her. And the face deco/headsculpt is amazing.
But! the new TM headsculpt is very very attractive indeed, and it might be worth considering the purchase:
..if it looked closer to the render. It's close, but not quite the same.
(Hey, real work?! OI.)
Overlord accessories:
Note on Dragonstorm, that was apparently missed previously: Autobot, protector, etc.

I will endorse Boaty McBoatface in news cycles. Promised.
GODDAMMIT the card made it! IT MADE IT!
YESSSSSSS BURN YESSSS.
(I sense ScottyP's next Special Be Cool Edition of a toy.)
Can I see joevill here..?

Greatshot has a rounded head with horns on the side.
Leader Quickswitch has a blocky head and a forehead crest, as he should.

Man, there are some seriously gorgeous new figures incoming.
The second one of you mentioned sand, I expected the Anakin whining. You did not disappoint.

It's clear when looking at the 3 most recent and upcoming TR Leader class figures what inspired them! Sixshot, Overlord and Black Shadow all the PHASE SIXER title in common!
So if it weren't for IDW's touch on these characters, you probably wouldn't be seeing TR Overlord (or the others) in the first place. You'd think that most of the people in this podcast would have more of an understanding of how big an impact IDW has on the Generations line. Lord knows Bay doesn't really care.
No one's forcing you to read the comics but coming off as a G1 entitled jerk isn't becoming either. So know when to give credit where it's due.

On another note, I don't get the Seaspray hate! He looks awesome! Straight out of the G1 cartoon. Hell, you could cut off his feet, put them on a human figure and totally reenact that episode where he falls for the mermaid girl. I can't wait for that little guy.

I enjoyed hearing from Burn and Paul. Don't get to hear you guys on much, so it's always a treat. Perhaps one day, schedules will work out where we're on a show together. I only had to be on the show for a year and a half before Razorclaw and I ended up being in the same episode.

I liked the Seaspray figure and I'm not even a huge fan of him. I miss his gargley voice from G1 though.

RodimusConvoy13 wrote:I think Claire made a perfectly valid point. If you don't care about the comics, you don't care if some of these guys look more like IDW than G1. She's a big G1 fan, so she's glad that they look more G1. There's several of us on the podcast that love the comics(though no one more than Scotty I think ) and our voices tend to be loudest when it comes to wanting IDW inspired representations of the characters. Yes, we're seeing the "Phase Sixers" as a result of them being used and very popular in the comics. That still doesn't mean that one needs to "give a hoot" about the comics. While you claim you were coaching, it wasn't he best use of constructive criticism.

Thank you. I don't think I was ever trying to minimize the impact that IDW has on the brand, why should I - they are helping to keep it fresh and relevant. I was simply saying, like RC said, that if you don't follow the comics closely, you really don't care where the design concepts came from. It's great that the comics are helping shine a light on these obscure characters and that we are getting figures, but I don't overly care for the lanky/thinner designs. I don't have any love or connection to those designs because, like I said, I don't follow the comics. The comics are difficult for me to follow and usually take multiple readings to figure out what is going on (few times to read/just look at the panels). For me, they are very G1 inspired. I don't believe that makes me a G1 entitled jerk - it's just something I am more knowledgeable about so I refer to it more and can relate to it more. Everyone likes something that someone else doesn't - comics are not my thing and I don't think it is right to criticize someone for not giving a hoot about something that doesn't interest them.

Not really I certainly don't mind characters who were not headmasters in the past becoming headmasters now. I think it's a fun gimmick! G1 Overlord has always been one of my all time favorite figures so I'm excited. I'd be more saddened if they had changed his color scheme.

I initially had problems with his colour schemed because to me Overlord has a mostly full blue chest and the images were shwing how the top half was white.
But it turns out that every pic I ever saw of Overlord had those white flaps open and flaring out (making chest wings like sixshot) and thats why I always thought his chest was all blue, sicne the flaps were never closed.
So I wonder, will you be posing Overlord with chest flaps open or clsoed?

Good question, I guess it all depends on how he will fit in the display. Honestly, a lot of the newer stuff isn't out in the open - i'll mess with them for a few months, then put them back in their boxes and it goes back into the Rubbermaid container. More than likely he would be posed similar to my G1 with the flaps open

It's the other way around; he only opens his chest flaps if he gets beads. Or if he's paying his way through college, and work-study just isn't enough.

As far as what I prefer, I think it will be more up to Overlord and his mood.
