There have been a lot of articles regarding IDW possibly losing their licensing deal with Hasbro for several properties which are filled with speculation and just guesses, so hopefully this article will be clearer and stick to just the facts we know. As of right now, all we know is that, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Skybound Entertainment is currently "in negotiations with Hasbro" to acquire the publishing rights to G.I. Joe and Transformers. This would mean that IDW would lose the license. While Skybound Entertainment is run by Robert Kirkman, and it is he who has apparently been in talks with Hasbro, he would not be writing the Transformers comics if his company would get the rights.

We will let you know of any development. For now, the main question is, how do you feel about the Transformers comic license switching hands again?

Once again official third parties do what Hasbro refuses to, just not transformable. At this point Hasbro will probably never give us a proper transforming Tarn figure despite his popular IDW stories and his visage now being all over the Cyberverse animated series, but at least we can get the next best official thing from Super7. The new Ultimate Tarn stands at a 7" scale (roughly the size of a Voyager) meaning he should work well with the modern Transformers scale. He includes an alternate unmasked head, a spare mask "prop", double canon, a bunch of hands and, most importantly, Nickle with her backpack. Could this open the door to more DJD members? Probably not, but it's still a good looking figure.

Meanwhile we never got that easy Titans Return Skullsmasher repaint into Alligaticon, the misassembled monsters made from Optimus Prime's parts from the G1 cartoon episode "City of Steel". This will be our first official Alligaticon figure, but he'll also include Prime's severed head, the tower Prime's arm was mounted to, and a Decepticon battle taxi, bet you thought we'd never get a figure of that!

The wave wraps up with less obscure G2 Megatron featuring both his G1 and G2 canons, extra hands, swappable blue and gray faces, a bunch of hands and many weapons straight out of the G2 comic. Then there's Wreck-Gar who comes with his cartoon and toy heads, cartoon and toy axes, Energon treats, a mini TV for Earth broadcasts, wax and cloth for detailing Ultra Magnus, gun wheel shields.

Ultimates wave 3 is expected to be out third quarter of 2022 and cost around $55 each. You can pick these up and just about any of our site sponsors. Big thanks to Seibertronians D-Maximal_Primal via email and AcademyofDrX on the Energon Pub Forums for letting us know.

It's not just the recently announced War's End title that will be available in February from IDW Publishing, as another month brings another round of solicitations for the ongoing Transformers and Beast Wars titles as well. The fifth hardcover collection of the 2019 relaunch series is also solicited here, but be aware this is an advance solicitation for a May 2022 release for that particular book.

Also note that oddly, none of the covers for any of these titles were available except for the previously published War's End cover images. This may be a quirk of the short turnaround time since the last round of solicits, or maybe Seibertron.com isn't the only press outlet totally in the dark right now when it comes to accessing IDW's media assets.

Anyhow, check out all of the solicitation information below, and to support any of these series ask your local comic shop how to order copies of all these issues in advance. Click here to find a local comic shop near you.

(W) Brian Ruckley (A) Anna Malkova (CA) Angel Hernandez
Shattered! The Autobots have withdrawn to the Crystal City and the Decepticons are at their gates! Don't miss the other side of the epic story in this month's Transformers: War's End too!

Transformers: War's End #1

Reunited with his former generals, Shockwave and Skywarp, he seeks once more to conquer Cybertron! But there may be hope... if Cyclonus can convince Megatron to work with the Autobots! The can't miss companion to the Transformers ongoing!

Next, when a criminal group known as Mayhem threatens the Speedia 500, the biggest race in the universe, the Wreckers-a covert ops squad-show up to keep the peace. But can they maintain their covers in front of the cameras?
Then, the fall of the tether that anchored Cybertron's moon was a critical step on the road to war, and the ancient Titan Vigilem caused it. IDW Unleashes an Ancient Evil in Transformers: War’s End Comic Book

February’s Debut of New War’s End Miniseries Serves as an essential Companion to IDW’s Ongoing Transformers Series

SAN DIEGO, CA (November 16, 2021) – In February, IDW will redefine the meaning of villainy with the first issue of Transformers: War’s End, a must-read four-part miniseries written by Brian Ruckley, the architect of IDW’s monthly Transformers continuity, and illustrated by Jack Lawrence (Transformers: Lost Light).

In War’s End, the infamous warlord Exarchon, who single-handedly plunged Cybertron into darkness long ago, has returned and reunited with his former generals, Shockwave and Skywarp. Cyclonus, a warrior haunted by the horrors of that ancient conflict, seeks a glimmer of hope by testing the allegiance of Decepticon leader Megatron, whose own evil machinations have so recently fractured civilization into warring factions!

“War’s End is about unfinished business: for both the characters and for Cybertron as a whole. It’s the return of Cybertron’s traumatic past to upend its present... and answers the question: If your planet has at its core the collective Spark of your entire civilization, just how vulnerable might that make you?” says Ruckley. “I love the fact that we will get to act this out with some of my favorite characters: Cyclonus, Team Stream, Pyra Magna, Geomotus, and Exarchon. They all get to take center stage, play for the highest of high stakes, and discover their fates and their futures.”

"Up to now, my Transformers work has been post- or pre-war, so with War's End, I'm excited to contribute to the Cybertronian war itself. This story is, understandably, darker and grittier than what I've worked on before, so I'm looking forward to going shadowy and ominous with it. Plus, I get to draw characters I haven't worked with in a big way – characters I've loved for more than 35 years. There aren't really words for how incredibly exciting that is!” says Lawrence.

"Since launching in 2019, all our Transformers universe titles — the ongoing, Galaxies, Escape, Wreckers: Tread & Circuits, the 2021 Annual, the Valentine's Special, and the Halloween Special — have been the quilted pieces of an epic story, helmed by Brian Ruckley," says editor David Mariotte. "War's End and the ongoing series are where those threads weave together, showing the full picture of the Transformers mythos — past, present, and future — that we've been building for years."

Transformers: War’s End #1 will be available with multiple cover variants for retailers and fans to enjoy, each illustrated by fan-favorite artists long associated with IDW Transformers comics: Cover A by Angel Hernandez, Cover B by interior artist Jack Lawrence, and a Retailer Incentive edition by E.J. Su.

It was Black Friday today at Toysrus and while it looked great on paper, none of you missed anything. Yes, the Cyberverse one steps and warriors had good sales, but it was the same 5 figures/characters and while the promoted sales on deluxes from the Studio Series line, there were almost none in stock, and none of the more pricey products (like Kingdom Rodimus or any of the Crossovers) were on sale.

BUT they did spice it up with some pretty cool decor. All across the stores were large standees promoting their action figure area. While the designs for He-Man and Batman were pulled from more recent sources, the one for Transformers was a surprise. It was Bumblebee as portrayed in the G1 Marvel Comics. You can see it below.

Bet you can’t wait for my toy

This series continues to be a homerun. With new and interesting characterizations and an exciting new take on the Shattered Glass universe. As well as just downright enjoyable art. For me this book continues to be the premier IDW Transformers book.

The story continues at a gradual pace but heats up towards the end. We pick back up with Megs and Starscream in Gold City meeting up with everybody’s favorite decepticon DJ Soundwave to reach out to allies and prepare to wake up Metroplex. We also delve into the past with Jetfire and Starscream and explore their relationship. Unfortunately for Megs and Starscream, Blaster and all his rowdy friends catch up with them. Luckily Starscream manages to escape but only temporarily as Goldbug and his old buddy Jetfire catch up with him.

Danny Lore continues to craft an excellent narrative with incredibly interesting characters. After delving into the relationship between Megs and Starscream last issue, this issue we delve into the relationship between Jetfire and Starscream. The latter of which is clearly the dominant partner trying to convince the other that regardless of where the money comes from for their project, they need to accept it because they are running out of backers. Eventually for them, things come to a boiling point leading to betrayal and questioning of loyalties. Starscream continues to be the highlight of these series.

Transformers News: A review of IDW Transformers Shattered Glass #3
I hope I’m not just here to die.

The art this issue is done by Guido Guidi with colors by John-Paul Bove and letters by Neil Uyetake. John-Paul Bove’s colors and Guido Guidi’s artwork work well together. Guidi’s art is fantastic, the splash page with Metroplex’s unearthed head is beautiful. Bove’s colors as with the rest of the series are excellent. Neil Uyetake’s lettering continues to be competent and well done. The art for this continues to be fun, exciting, and never disappoints.

Verdict

Overall, this book continues to be great. The art and the story suit each other incredibly well. The overarching story is definitely heating up for the final two issues, and I cannot wait to see how this is going to end.

You'll be singing "Hakuna Matata" on your way to the comic shop tomorrow, as the release of Transformers: Beast Wars #9 is upon us and, based one of the variant covers, it's time for Razorbeast to make his mark in the story. The five page preview below won't get around to that part, but hey, IDW Publishing shares these to help sell the books after all.

(W) Erik Burnham (A/CA) Josh Burcham
"Thicker Skin". The Predacons begin their hunt for other fallen protoform pods, containing potential reinforcements in their quest to crush the Maximals. But Skold, the Predacon powerhouse, is left behind because she'll slow the mission down, at least according to Terrorsaur. When Skold encounters a pod on her own, it'll be up to her to bring it to the Predacon's side... or put it down for good.

Check out the preview below and be sure to pick this issue up tomorrow at your local comic shop, through a licensed digital comics retailer, or via the Seibertron.com eBay store.

Many fans have already been able to read the fourth issue of the series thanks to the SG Goldbug toy already shipping out from Hasbro Pulse, but thankfully the missing piece of the series won't be out of reach for long as Transformers: Shattered Glass #3 is out tomorrow. IDW Publishing has provided a five page preview of the new title, which won't ship alongside any toys until SG Starscream goes out, so the opportunity is there to not have to wait to get more of the story.

(W) Danny Lore (A) Guido Guidi (CA) Fico Ossio
Shattered Glass isn't your average Transformers tale... "Shards" is the story of the ongoing battle between the power-hungry Autobot autocrats and the freedom-fighting Decepticon laborers. Join author Danny Lore (James Bond, King in Black: Captain America, Champions) in exploring this fractured alternate universe just before it shatters.

In issue #3, Starscream seeks out more Decepticons to prevent another war that could destroy Cybertron, but memories of the past haunt every step. As the Autobots close in, Starscream must decide between peace for his planet and his former best friend.

Check out the preview below and be sure to pick this issue up tomorrow at your local comic shop, through a licensed digital comics retailer, or via the Seibertron.com eBay store.

A Review of Transformers: King Grimlock #3

Spoiler Free-ish
Transformers News: IDW Transformers King Grimlock #3 Review

Grimlock's adventure in Menonia continues with today's release of Transformers: King Grimlock #3 from IDW Publishing, and they've turned in a swiftly-read action comic that's indicative of everything this series has been so far. If you enjoyed the first two issues, you'll enjoy this too, though there are some shakier bits this time around. Read on to learn more, or skip to the end and look at the score blindly. It's your robot adventure.

Transformers News: IDW Transformers King Grimlock #3 Review
It isn't, but if this were to turn out to be the missing link between Last Stand and MTMTE #6, well... ok, I'm good with that.

Story-wise, things are at the "mini-boss" stage for this mini-series, which makes sense with a couple more issues still remaining after this one. Issue 3 shows the results of Grimlock's efforts to aid the Menonians in the first two chapters, resulting in a book that's light on words and big on splash pages. While it's certainly a quick read, it never feels like space is wasted. It's clear there was some conscious decision to approach this as an action comic, so more of writer Steve Orlando's wordier areas get less page real estate than the big, flashy action scenes.

Transformers News: IDW Transformers King Grimlock #3 Review
Busy, busy, busy

The art, with lines by Agustin Padilla and colors by Jeremy Colwell, never becomes actively bad, but there are some moments that are busy and visually confusing, at least digitally. Despite some panels and pages that might not reach their intended grasp, the flow of the action always worked for me and helped tell the story of a battle effectively, with little doubt as to what the result is. Jake M. Wood's letters didn't distract from focus on the other visuals at any point, which is another credit to the artists as it rarely looked like the bubbles were fighting to have space to exist.

Three cover options are available as usual, with the "A" cover by Bryan Lee, the "B" cover by the interior art's team of Padilla and Colwell (which serves as this review's news story's thumbnail image), and a 10-copy retailer incentive cover by Alex Milne, just in case you need more MTMTE vibes from this one. As always, remember that you can find all the cover images and full credits for the issue through our Vector Sigma Database page for Transformers: King Grimlock #3.

Verdict
Transformers News: IDW Transformers King Grimlock #3 Review
Your character arc is beneath me

King Grimlock is a fun series that continues to be just that with its latest issue. The art is mostly good with a few busier, rougher patches and the story continues on a predictable but logical and entertaining path. Of course, I say predictable but should mention there's a twist at the end which, while foreshadowed, maybe didn't feel super well-earned. Its worth is likely to be determined by what's done with it as the story moves towards its conclusion, so it's not really considered with much weight in the score below.

Man I needed this. After the IDW Transformers reboot and the new Beast Wars comic, both of which I found uninspiring for different reasons, this comic really fills a void for fun and well done Transformers comics.

This comic has everything I'd want in a Transformers comic; great art with fully realized backgrounds, likeable characters, quick pacing, world building, ramps, callbacks to Transformers lore, good guys being heroic and villains being bad. Too much to ask? Maybe, but hey I got it all with this comic.

Check out the review below and be sure to pick this issue up tomorrow at your local comic shop, through a licensed digital comics retailer, or via the Seibertron.com eBay store.

Transformers News: Review for IDW Transformers Wreckers Thread and Circuits #1

We'll start with this story, the writer cuts right to the chase with the delicious villainy at hand. Nuance can be great but I also like when the bad guys are just plain villains. The franchise was built on a very black and white Saturday morning cartoon ideology and I find the comics often excel when contrasting the villains and the heroes. And hey if you want some nuance, well there is a goal to the villains, and one could say it's a noble one, maybe. But their methods make it pretty easy to root against them. Still, their manifesto is another clever way to include some world building of the political dynamics of this world which is much more exciting in concept and execution than this sentence I just wrote. And I love the characters chosen as the villains too.

Transformers News: Review for IDW Transformers Wreckers Thread and Circuits #1

Both the heroes and villains are characters that are not often spotlighted but there will definitely be a familiarity to the grotesque looking villains. They are from the late era of G1 which included a bunch of wild concepts. And these toys concepts are woven into the story and world building like with Circuit being an action master and how much of an outsider that makes him on a planet where speed is key. This just makes me want to have a G1 Circuit toy (or Axalon, or both).

Transformers News: Review for IDW Transformers Wreckers Thread and Circuits #1

And speaking of wanting toys, anyone who chose to get that Seige Hound redeco of Hotshot will love this comic. The alt mode looks great, drawn by Jack Lawrence, as is everything that man touches in this issue. He is definitely giving it all he has with this miniseries, with lots of detail on the bots, varying facial expressions to convey their mood and developed backgrounds. The art is well complimented by Candice Han's colours, which are especially on point in the scene revealing the villains.

Transformers News: Review for IDW Transformers Wreckers Thread and Circuits #1

This is a fun comic any Transformers fan can enjoy, with vibrant detailed art and story that wastes no time. And hardcore fans will really dig the callbacks and getting some fiction related to very niche characters. Looking forward to issue 2!

IDW Publishing has provided a five page preview of this upcoming issue which features regular editor David Mariotte on writing duties, with lineart by familiar Transformers artist Jack Lawrence and colors by Candice Han. Consider when looking over this preview that there may be more going on here than meets the eye, or just wait and find out what that might be when this issue is released tomorrow.

A Review of Transformers Halloween Special 2021

A Few Spoilers Within
Transformers News: IDW Transformers Halloween Special Review

When was the last time Transformers had a Halloween special of any sort? Was it for the Generation 2 comic? Regardless of what the answers to those questions were, the answer now is yesterday, as the Transformers Halloween Special 2021 was released. This side story to the Transformers Ruckleyverse features Starscream on a journey out to the spookier parts of Cybertron and while I'm easily able to file this one in the "not for me" category, it's definitely for someone and there are potentially fascinating ideas explored. Read on for more.

Transformers News: IDW Transformers Halloween Special Review
Many of us discovered the relief screaming hobby in 2020

Transformers tends to do horror best when it's on accident, so writer Dan Watters was faced with a pretty monumental task in crafting a story that's appropriate for this property while still fitting the intended seasonal theme. I'm far from an aficionado of the horror genre so while this personally landed as a pointless story that I could have gone without ever knowing, the fact is that there's some genuinely creepy description to go along with Anna Malkova and Nahuel Ruiz's imagery. It may not be anything you didn't already think about while watching Beast Machines twenty years ago, but it puts those similar ideas in your face where you can't ignore them or wonder if you really get the idea. Here, those ideas and themes are clear and if you're into this sort of story, they're probably effective too.

Transformers News: IDW Transformers Halloween Special Review
Teeth? Again? I get it, I need to go to the dentist, stop bugging me.

There's some decent world and character building to be found for the wider Transformers (2019) continuity as well within this one-shot. There's nothing that you can't live without if you're following that story, but it's nice to see that this issue, like the Valentine's Special before it, does add on to an existing universe. There's more to learn about Cybertron and much more about Starscream in particular, who's been pretty neglected amidst the massive cast of the ongoing.

Transformers News: IDW Transformers Halloween Special Review
That lighting can all day

As mentioned earlier, Anna Malkova handles the lineart while Nahuel Ruiz is on color duty for this extra-large issue. Things have been too busy for me to pick up my physical copy of the book, so while on the low-res/low-dpi review sample I can find times where the lineart looks sloppy and confusing, especially with some of the landscapes, experience leads me to believe it will look much better on the printed page. Ruiz's best color work is found in the lighting effects, as well as on Malkova's technorganic circuitry detailing panels. Jake M. Wood handles the letter work as is the usual case these days, and the only critical point on these would be for one of the interactions between Starscream and the organic creature he encounters where the organic's "ook" feels out of place when reading top-to-bottom, left-to-right - but maybe this is a case where most people read in a circular fashion, or would on the printed page, so this criticism may be a moot point. I'm going to blame the digital review sample again if so because for those of you that don't know, these things are potato quality.

There are two covers currently available, the regular one by Nicole Goux and a ten-copy retailer incentive cover by Livio Ramondelli which is featured as this review's news post's thumbnail. There's an exclusive cover as well which I have no idea how one gets ahold of, you can see that and the other covers plus full credits for the issue through our Vector Sigma Database page for Transformers Halloween Special 2021.

Verdict
Transformers News: IDW Transformers Halloween Special Review
Nailed that part

This latest seasonal special serves a purpose while doing a little building-work in the wider continuity where it's set, features some creative writing by Dan Watters and even provides a little bit of action somehow. The art seems to probably be ok despite some potential issues, but either way it complements the story being told to deliver what looks like a pretty creepy package overall. If you like the horror genre and Transformers, you'll probably be into this. I'm only into one of those things so I could take it or leave it, but can't deny that is is for someone.

Not for me, but for someone, so I won't go too hard on it.

A Review of Transformers Shattered Glass #2 by Mr. Micromaster
Spoilers Ahead

The new Shattered Glass series from IDW continues to deliver. This delivers an incredibly enjoyable read with splendid art.
Transformers News: A review of IDW Transformers Shattered Glass #2
Not your Dad’s Optimus!

The writing for this series continues to be superb. Lore is especially adept at writing incredibly compelling characters. I found Starscream and Megatron to be both intriguing and compelling characters. The conversation between Starscream who sees Megatron as his noble leader and Megatron who sees himself as nothing less than abject failure and a pathetic excuse for a leader comes across as both a fresh and unique take. Said conversation also allows us to explore Megatron’s beings on cybertron and the war on earth. The dynamic between Megatron and Starscream allows Lore to weave a wonderfully captivating narrative.

Alternators Dead End what are you doing here?

The art in this issue is done by Daniel Khanna with colors by John-Paul Bove and lettering done by Neil Uyetake. Khanna’s art in this issue is phenomenal for the most part. There are a couple issues that detract from it. The first panel we see of Megatron pre-war, something is off with it and I am not sure if it is drawn differently or if it is the colors or something else, but it just does not jive with the rest of the book. Besides that, the rest of this book features competent and strong art with incredibly emotive faces. You can see the fear and shock on Prowl’s face when Megs picks him up. The great thing about Bove’s coloring is that it seems to work with any artist no matter how varied or similar in style. Uyetake’s lettering is equally well done. Despite a few hiccups the art in this issue is fantastic.
Verdict
Transformers News: A review of IDW Transformers Shattered Glass #2
Hm? Where have I seen this before?

Overall, this book is a home run of which IDW, and the creative team can be proud of. As long as this book keeps up the pace it just may go down as the best transformers book of 2021. This issue is a definite recommend.

Spooky season arrives to Cybertron with tomorrow's release of the Transformers Halloween Special 2021 from IDW Publishing. This extra large one-shot looks to fall somewhere in the universe of IDW's latest ongoing Transformers series, or at least it appears to based on the five page preview they've shared with us.

(W) Dan Watters (A) Bethany McGuire-Smith (CA) Nicole Goux
Whispers of a disembodied spark howling alone in the desert are floating around Cybertron. Whispers of Starscream's loyalty to Megatron's cause are also floating around. Frustrated and needing some space to clear his head, Starscream visits the desert and is surprised to actually hear the rumored screams. He follows the sound and is met with a creature that makes him question what it means to be a cybernetic being. Starscream faces off with this grotesque experiment in "I Have No Mouth And I Must Starscream," by Dan Watters (Home Sick Pilots, Lucifer, The Sandman Universe).

Check out the preview below and be sure to pick this issue up tomorrow at your local comic shop, through a licensed digital comics retailer, or via the Seibertron.com eBay store.

Good bad guys and bad good guys await in tomorrow's release of Transformers: Shattered Glass #2 from IDW Publishing. Sure, you could wait for Hasbro Pulse to deliver this issue when your SG Megatron figure gets dropped off, but did you see the way they packed Blurr's comic? You'll probably want to buy this from somewhere that knows what bags and boards are. IDW has, as usual, provided a five page preview to further tempt you to do just that for an issue they describe as:

(W) Danny Lore (A) Dan Khanna (CA) Alex Milne
Shattered Glass isn't your average Transformers tale... "Shards" is the story of the ongoing battle between the power-hungry Autobot autocrats and the freedom-fighting Decepticon laborers. Join author Danny Lore (James Bond, King in Black: Captain America, Champions) in exploring this fractured alternate universe just before it shatters.
In issue #2, Megatron is the only bot who can stop the three Autobot warlords from acquiring information that could reignite the war, but can he forgive his past mistakes and take up the mantle of Deception leader again

Check out the preview below and be sure to pick this issue up tomorrow at your local comic shop, through a licensed digital comics retailer, or via the Seibertron.com eBay store.

You Say 'That's Just Prime', But It's Probably Just Another Situation Gone Wrong
A Review of Beast Wars #8

Spoiler Free-ish
Transformers News: IDW Beast Wars #8 Review

The title of Beast Wars #8 is "Pod Part 02", as in the second part of a longer story just called "Pod". In my review of issue 7, I took issue with the book's pacing, and the same issues linger here. It's not terribly slow, but things don't pick up quickly with this most recent release either. As the last mention of this for most of the remainder of this particular review, I'll let Blackarachnia share a word for you if you had expectations that this latest installment would avoid the "writing for the trade" pace the series has been taking -

Transformers News: IDW Beast Wars #8 Review
Blackarachnia: Still Mean

Writer Eric Burnham does well in this issue at making the events that do happen feel engaging. Even with an idea in mind on roughly what will happen (unless you're new to Beast Wars entirely) there's a sense of tension and plenty of character-appropriate dialogue, resulting in a final product that was very easy to get absorbed in. Outside of Nyx who is pure background decoration in this issue, Burnham shows that he knows who these characters are effectively communicates some of their traits as the story moves along.

Transformers News: IDW Beast Wars #8 Review
"It don't matter. None of this matters."

Without going into spoiler territory, it can be pointed out that while this issue (and presumably this story arc as a whole) is repeating the beat from the show's plot about recovering Maximal Protoforms from orbit, there's enough difference here to be encouraged by what may be yet to come. Put another way, while you may still generally know from point A on page 1 to point B on page 20 that point B was always the destination, there's some road construction on the way with enticing potential for the future.

Transformers News: IDW Beast Wars #8 Review
Cats: Also Still Mean

The artistic team on issue 8 is the same from 7, meaning Winston Chan's on the lineart again with colors by SidVenBlu and letters by Jake M. Wood. There's a lot to like here, with fun action scenes and a regular helping of close-up character portrayals during the scenes of just dialogue. There's a particular instance where Cheetor's running through the Axalon in cheetah mode and the panel layout has him overlapping multiple panels to express a sense of speed, which was very enjoyable and clever, at least to me. There were some instances again when I thought Chan's expressions went a bit stiff or where some characters' poses looked unnatural that prevent a full helping of solid praise for the art, but in general it's well executed here and still feels consistent with the rest of the series so far.

Cover options include Andrew Griffith's take on Optimus Primal and Megatron duking it out, Martin Gee's Blackarachnia cover which is used for this review's news story's thumbnail, as well as a 10-copy retailer incentive cover featuring both spider Predacons by Ryan Miller. As always, you can find all the cover images and full credits for the issue through our Vector Sigma Database page for Beast Wars #8.

Verdict
Transformers News: IDW Beast Wars #8 Review
Slowly, in this case, but sure

Beast Wars #8 was more fun to read than I expected, with just enough beneath the surface layer of plot to make things compelling despite a general overall expectation of events that went mostly fulfilled. The character development is proceeding smartly in most cases and while the art's not by any means perfect this time around it conveys the story effectively while still providing a standout moment or two. I'm excited to see where things develop, but please, please start getting us there quicker.

I really wanted to go up to a 4/5 this time, which is "very good" on my scale, but the pacing just won't allow me to go above the "good" below.
