Categories: Toy News, EventsPete Sinclair wrote:Machine Wars is a very interesting line to those who were collecting back in the mid 90's. Hasbro had decided to completely revamp the Transformers brand with Beast Wars but then all of the sudden out of left field we get Machine Wars? We were going to get the best of BOTH worlds? How awesome was that. But then, as quick as they hit, they were gone. And while the Beast era is one of both mine and many fans favorite era's, there was always that what could have been for a "Machine Wars" story.
Pete Sinclair wrote:The inspiration here is basically a "Machine Wars: Series 2." The 2013 BotCon offerings will work both as a stand alone AND as a continuation of the Machine Wars line. Once people read the fiction fans will see each toy from both series 1 and series 2 work as their own individual character.
Also, even if you did not grow up collecting Machine Wars, this set is going to be very appealing for many reasons and we anticipate that a wide range of collectors' will want to add these toys to their collections. They look really sharp!
Pete Sinclair wrote:This "Series 2" is not just a redux. Yes, there will be homage's to the original toys. But we take it a step further. Some characters will have NEW features/characteristics. Some that were basics will now be in a more appropriate voyager form. And yes, we have also added NEW characters to the Machine Wars line up. Ones that totally fit the MACHINE WARS concept i.e. these are WAR MACHINES!
Long story short, we approached this years offering as a true second series of Machine Wars toys.
Pete Sinclair wrote:Time will tell ...
Pete Sinclair wrote:There seems to be maybe two issues there. We have actually looked at that closely. We think that the colors were initially right but the dark blue of Megaplex became grey and the grey on Megatron became more of a teal. So the toys themselves are "right" in that regard. The Megaplex card art doesn't really look like either one so who knows what happened there.
Either way, we decided to base our deco's on "all" of the toy's we produced under the name they were sold as i.e. If we did do a Megaplex, he would look like the Megaplex sold at retail.
Pete Sinclair wrote:You can expect the announcement very VERY soon ...

Category: EventsAuto Assembly 2013 Major Updates
We've been quiet for a little while here at Auto Assembly. We've spent the last few months trying to recover from Auto Assembly 2012 and making plenty of plans for next year's convention, and taking a look back at some of the things we did this year so we can make 2013 the best convention we have ever organised.
Anyway, onto Auto Assembly 2013 and we have some fantastic things lined up for all of you. As you may know, back in August we confirmed our three voice actors who are joining us - Dan Gilvezan (G1 Bumblebee), Neil Kaplan (RiD Prime) and Steve Blum (TF: Prime Starscream), but since then we've been fairly quiet. Until now...
Over on our website, we've been busy making a lot of announcements about the convention and this is going to continue for the next few months with something new coming from us every few days!
One Day Passes
Until now, we have only been selling full weekend tickets for Auto Assembly 2013, but as of 22nd November 2012 we have now made one day passes available for the convention. However, these are limited so if you are interested, you'll need to book these sooner rather than later!
Guests
Starting things off are our guests. We deliberately held back on announcing our comic guests for 2013 so we still had guests to announce after our voice actors! Anyway, our first two confirmed comic guests are Simon Furman and James Roberts with more to come over the next few days.
Convention Exclusives
We've just unveiled the artwork for the first of our convention exclusive postcards for Auto Assembly 2013 and you can find this on our website. It's already been extremely well received and we'll be showing you the artwork for the rest of the cards over the coming months. That's not all though - we have more convention exclusive merchandise that we'll be announcing, starting tomorrow...
Full details on all of these stories and many more are on the Auto Assembly website, as well as more news to come over the next few days!
Auto Assembly 2013 is Europe's largest EVER Transformers convention and is taking place over the weekend of 9th - 11th August 2013 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel. To book your tickets, to enquire about dealers tables or sponsorship / advertising opportunities or to find out more including details of all the dealers attending, all of our guests and a full schedule for the weekend, visit the website at http://www.autoassembly.org.uk
If you can't make it to the convention, we'll be offering a Non-Attendee Package early in the new year and running other online activities that you'll be able to get involved with!
Hope to see you all next year!

Category: EventsPick your champion
How do you pick 64 toys when there are thousands to choose from? It wasn’t easy — we excluded board games of all types — but we think we came up with a collection of worthy competitors that represent every facet of the plaything kingdom. There are four regions — Timeless, Pre-1950, 1950-1980, and 1981 to Present. Each region is made up of 16 toys, seeded 1 through 16, based on the strength of their resumes. In the first round, the top seed from a given category will face off against the 16th seed from the same region; the second seed will challenge the 15th seed, and so on.
After that, the challengers are in your hands. All winners are chosen by YOU, the readers and, for the first time, the general public. Why should we have all the fun, right? Examine the full bracket and a synopsis of each toy on the following pages.
Voting criteria: In short, there are no criteria. What makes the greatest toy? If you opened up the Millennium Falcon on Christmas morning when you were 6, that likely ranks very highly for you. Feel free to be objective, weighing longevity, cost and number of units sold. We also encourage you to vote for the Teddy Bear simply because you still have your childhood friend sitting on your bed right now, some 40 years later.
Voting Schedule: First round voting begins on October 15. At that time, you’ll have the chance to vote in any and all first-round matchups. Second-round voting will begin on October 22. Round 3 will begin on October 29, and so on. You may vote for the winner of a match only once, so choose wisely. Voting for the Finals begins on November 19. The last toy standing will be announced in the January issue of the magazine and online.
Screw ups: Part of the fun is the discussion, so sound off to http://www.twitter.com/mensabulletin or Bulletin Letters, and let us know what we left out, what toy was seeded too low (or high), etc. If you hosted a selection party, created bracket pools with your coworkers, or made voting a family event (all of which happened last year), we want to hear that, too. Send in your photos of completed brackets or selection parties. We’ll post them to Facebook and Twitter.
Share the fun: You can vote only once per matchup, but that doesn’t mean you can’t try to convince other people to vote your way. Track the fun on Facebook and Twitter. Forward our posts and tweets to get your friends in on the action.
Ready? We are too! The 2012 Mensa Bracket Challenge has begun!

But it is the scout BUMBLEBEE who discovers what may be the key to victory. In a packed room filled with TRANSFORMERS fans, Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS) officially unveiled details about TRANSFORMERS PRIME BEAST HUNTERS during a special panel at New York Comic Con on Thursday. BEAST HUNTERS will be the touchstone for TRANSFORMERS brand entertainment in 2013 driven by the award winning TRANSFORMERS PRIME animated series which is produced by Hasbro Studios, airs on The HUB television network in the U.S. (Fridays at 7 p.m. ET) and is seen by kids and fans in over 170 countries around the world.
The Voyager scale PREDAKING action figure seen here in 'beast' mode is part of the new TRANSFORMERS PRIME BEAST HUNTERS toy line available in the spring of 2013. The beasts, comprised of a new TRANSFORMERS faction called the PREDACONS, are led by one of the most imposing and powerful characters in the TRANSFORMERS world - PREDAKING. At New York Comic Con, in addition to giving fans a sneak peek at PREDAKING in the animated series, Hasbro discussed how BEAST HUNTERS will be the driving force behind its product line including toys as well as an extensive licensing program.
"In recent years, TRANSFORMERS fans have seen the AUTOBOTS battle the DECEPTICONS," said Aaron Archer, Vice President of TRANSFORMERS Brand Creative and Design. "The PREDACON faction, made up of menacing beasts that convert in ways mankind has never seen, have now joined the DECEPTICONS to take down the AUTOBOTS. We're looking forward to exploring this new dynamic in the animation, action figures, KRE-O building sets, publishing and more."
As a special early look for fans, Hasbro also unveiled select new toys from the BEAST HUNTERS line that will launch in the spring of 2013 including new KRE-O TRANSFORMERS building sets and TRANSFORMERS PRIME action figures. Both toy lines will be driven by the BEAST HUNTERS theme bringing the AUTOBOTS, DECEPTICONS - and now the PREDACONS - to life in toy form and will be reflective of the compelling and visually stunning aesthetic of the TRANSFORMERS PRIME animated series.
"BEAST HUNTERS is an exciting new direction for TRANSFORMERS brand entertainment and the introduction of the PREDACON faction is a pivotal moment for OPTIMUS PRIME and the heroic AUTOBOTS, impacting the world of TRANSFORMERS which will never be the same," said Jay Duke, Global TRANSFORMERS Brand Vice President at Hasbro. "Kids and fans will be amazed by how Hasbro will bring this story and the 'beasts' to life across the brand's major entertainment platforms in 2013."
