The Hunt Begins in 2013 as OPTIMUS PRIME and the AUTOBOTS Face an Unprecedented New Foe in the TRANSFORMERS PRIME Animated Series and Beyond
NEW YORK, NY - October 11, 2012 - In a packed room filled with TRANSFORMERS fans, Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS) officially unveiled details about TRANSFORMERS PRIME BEAST HUNTERS during a special panel at New York Comic Con on Thursday. BEAST HUNTERS will be the touchstone for TRANSFORMERS brand entertainment in 2013 driven by the award winning TRANSFORMERS PRIME animated series which is produced by Hasbro Studios, airs on The HUB television network in the U.S. and is seen by kids and fans in over 170 countries around the world.
The beasts, comprised of a new TRANSFORMERS faction called the PREDACONS, are led by one of the most imposing and powerful characters in the TRANSFORMERS world - PREDAKING. At New York Comic Con, in addition to giving fans a sneak peek at PREDAKING in the animated series, Hasbro discussed how BEAST HUNTERS will be the driving force behind its product line including toys as well as an extensive licensing program.
"In recent years, TRANSFORMERS fans have seen the AUTOBOTS battle the DECEPTICONS," said Aaron Archer, Vice President of TRANSFORMERS Brand Creative and Design. "The PREDACON faction, made up of menacing beasts that convert in ways mankind has never seen, have now joined the DECEPTICONS to take down the AUTOBOTS. We’re looking forward to exploring this new dynamic in the animation, action figures, KRE-O building sets, publishing and more."
As a special early look for fans, Hasbro also unveiled select new toys from the BEAST HUNTERS line that will launch in the spring of 2013 including new KRE-O TRANSFORMERS building sets and TRANSFORMERS PRIME action figures. Both toy lines will be driven by the BEAST HUNTERS theme bringing the AUTOBOTS, DECEPTICONS - and now the PREDACONS - to life in toy form and will be reflective of the compelling and visually stunning aesthetic of the TRANSFORMERS PRIME animated series.
"BEAST HUNTERS is an exciting new direction for TRANSFORMERS brand entertainment and the introduction of the PREDACON faction is a pivotal moment for OPTIMUS PRIME and the heroic AUTOBOTS, impacting the world of TRANSFORMERS which will never be the same," said Jay Duke, Global TRANSFORMERS Brand Vice President at Hasbro. "Kids and fans will be amazed by how Hasbro will bring this story and the ‘beasts’ to life across the brand’s major entertainment platforms in 2013."

And g1 predaking is still close to the top of my must haves... Not to mention the insecticons.. Also beast wars was such a great show...and high moon concocted a decent dinbots origins story..
So any misgivings logic tells me to have, I'm curious to see the new direction prime will take. Also I'd like to see a back story for the organic tf's in prime like airachnid and the insecticons.
I'm just glad there won't be many interesting prime toys so I might somehow find enough for the g1 goodness ie fortress maximus and the masterpieces... Though that predaking intrigues me and they seem to enjoy teasing us with him by not showing the roboto mode.

RazorSlash92 wrote:Are these actually being released by Hasbro? That Soundwave looks like it has an Arms Micron.
It's Ravage, and it's similar to the Laserbeak with the first Soundwave, not a Micron at all.
That Sinnertwin homage is really neat, I'm glad they're hitting up a comparatively obscure character. Unless he has a connection point hidden up his butt it looks like we won't be getting a Terrorcon combiner any time soon.
That Laserback might be my favourite out of all these guys now.
The fact that Wheeljack has his closed mask might lead to some sales for people wanting to headswap. And, so help me, that new headcrest on Bumblebee actually looks pretty cool.

I knew it was Ravage, I meant that it looks like an arms micron in the fact that it transforms into an attachable weapon.
Diem wrote:The fact that Wheeljack has his closed mask might lead to some sales for people wanting to headswap.
Doesn't the original Wheeljack have a closed mask?

Everything else is meh. The beast hunters sorta had me, but they look like crap in robot mode. Shame.

I will remain optimistic and keep reminding myself how completely anti-Beast Wars I was when it first started before it became a series I truly enjoyed. (til season 3 anyway)
It would be nice to see TF Prime branch off and do something at least semi-original instead of continually riding the 'hey remember this name from G1!' train. Which admittedly the second half of season 2 is kinda almost already doing with the pokemon relic hunting.

Sinnertwin has me excited but i wish he was executed better. But he's a cyberverse class fig
(i don't buy cyberverse) so what can ya do. If anything I'm still stoked to see him.
Omega Supreme!....... It's alright. Very passable.
The rest are a wash for me. Once again yet another entire wave of product that Hasbro won't be getting a single dollar from me for.

Well guess I'm going senile.
The Microns that comes with the Arms Micron sets are way bigger than that Ravage and are kits. And have powerlink points. Also, does that Ravage become a weapon? I think it just plugs into his chest.

Something pegs into Soundwave's arm as a weapon. Assumed it was Ravage. Guess I'm going a bit senile too.

Deluxes: Cool! Doubt Ravage is a weapon. But still, nice to see him.
Voyager Predaking: NO! I'll wait for the leader class.
Year of the Snake Omega and Optimus: WANT!

I'm pretty sure it's his grabby, shooty claw on a string thing.
Speaking of which, these far larger weapons probably go some way towards explaining the recent price hike on deluxes.

Too bad Cyberverse Roadbuster Bulkhead is...well, a Cyberverse. Not too sold on the rest of the wee guys. The vehicle/accessories are looking good. Sky Claw is maybe a tad gaudy though. The Breakdown Apex armour isn't really for me, but am glad they've made it more original than the first two.
Predaking could be really nice. I'd like to see the robot mode first though, before getting too excited. Optimus doesn't do much for me, but that Omega is something nice.

Predaking is an awesome looking figure, but the name is what bugs me for once. With a name like Predaking, I expect a freaking combiner.
Omega Supreme looks amazing and I can't wait to get it.

A couple of the existing Prime designs are quite nice, but this next wave is a disaster. Imagine what these are going to look like without the carefully applied Photoshop sheen they have in these pictures.
They look like someone vomited coloured plastic.
Oh, what I'd kill for a couple more Classics right now - at the appropriate size, of course. A Trailbreaker maybe. Or a nice Springer.
Hasbro, please take your plastic dragon and stick it up your arse.

Omega Supreme alllllmost makes me regret blowing most of my money on Encore Fort Max. Almost. Prime, not so much. I'll wait for eBay, unless they're actually sold separately.

Bumblebee - maybe
Twinstrike - maybe (if there ends up being a deluxe, I'll have that instead)
Laserback - yes (reminds me of G1 Cindersaur)
Soundwave - probably (liking the new deco and remolding, don't really care about Ravage)
Smokescreen - gimme a deluxe and we'll talk, I won't do Cyberverse (Scout/Basic) for a character like that
Platinum Omega Supreme - Yes, but only if he looks anywhere near as good as the photoshopped custom paint job they show him in, otherwise no
Ripclawstrike - Why do you have to be made of Lego Kreo? I would have bought you
Voyager Predaking - yes, now show me the bot mode already Mr Scourge err...Bruticus err...Flame Convoy err...whatever, I like dragons, so gimme that

Honestly, I can relate with what you have just said. Because when I was a kid, I had Shrapnel. And lets say that his joints became loose, the metallic paint started coming off, a part of him broke, and I lost his weapons. That, and the Dinobots were one of the two reasons why I did not like Beast Wars. So when it comes to Beast Hunters, we are on the same page. I am anxious to see how it turns out, even though as we speak, I am uncertain what my 2013 holds.
But with the rest... I am not sure how I feel. I like the new Omega Supreme, and wonder what series he is going to be in. Predaking is interest, but he cannot beat my G1 badboy when it comes the idea of owning him. And also, why does the combination of this and Fort Max make me hope that Takara Tomy reissues the Terrorcons and Gnaw?

Here's an angle, although I doubt this is what Hasbro's doing: If Shockwave built them, perhaps because he's not actually Primus/VectorS Sigma/Allpark/Dues Machina he can't build the kind of complex lifeforms that he himself is. Surgeons can replace organs in humans, but they can't build an actual human. What if Cybertronian physiology is fundamentally the same?
To quote Arcee and Jack "You turn into a motor cycle, don't you know how to build one?
Your a human Jack, can you build me a small intestine?"
Or, maybe, deep down, Shockwave is really a psychopathic whack-job with a secret passion for monsters.

How they return, however, will be revealed in the show.

If Hasbro thinks that's what i want they have not been paying much attention.
So let me tell Hasbro what i want, i want proper remakes of the G1 Headmasters and Targetmasters for my Classics collection, a Deluxe Class Classic Blaster and a Voyager Class Classic Galvatron. I woulden't mind a DOTM Leader Class Megatron either, i think Hasbro even promised us that he would come. Now that we are talking DOTM, release Leadfoot and Soundwave for Alpha Trion's sake that's what i really want.

Either Hasbro is stripmining my imagination without me knowing it...AGAIN...or I can officially see the future.
Posted by Va'al on October 13th, 2012 @ 4:16am CDT
Or was it just the Voyager, with different paint apps?
While I find the three "retools" interesting, I'm not sure I want to replace the current cast members on the shelf. I might just focus on the beasts from now on.
With that said, Lazerback looks really really interesting.
The symbol, however, confuses me:
That doesn't look like the Beast Hunter symbol at all. Is it a pre-production one?

1. There will be a leader version of Predaking, as shown from the photos of the girl holding him at NYCC
2. Nobody's gonna complain about Omega because he's NEVER had 2 hands, just the claw-hand on his right arm and a blaster arm for his left one. It's always been that way. Why complain now about a toy not having any real hands when it's of a character who's never had any real hands to begin with?

I cant believe myself that I'm gonna say this but that Bumblebee looks all kinda of awesome in bot mode. I'm a huge Beast Wars fan so this new Beast Hunters direction I'm looking forward to. Omega Supreme look great but that damn open mouth plate is a big turn off on Optimus(looks like he's got a huge ass smile from telling himself a joke). I'm wondering if they will work in the Maximals somehow.
Not a big fan of the Kreo stuff and the Cyberverse stuff.
Posted by NTESHFT on October 13th, 2012 @ 9:27am CDT
Just how many "new" figures are actually coming out? I see more repaint/retool than actual new figures. Are we not seeing everything? And I guess that the "Platinum Edition" transformers will most likely be nothing but repaints/retools. No surprise there, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see then. *sigh* At least Takara is producing stuff to look forward to.
