This version of Optimus Prime is a redeco of Transformers Earthrise Leader Class Optimus Prime, minus his trailer with two yellow translucent redeco'ed Battlemasters (Siege Pteraxadon and Earthrise Soundbarrier). The yellow translucent redeco of Pteraxadon is a call back to the Energon axe he used in his fight against Megatron atop the Sherman Dam in the 2nd part of More Than Meets The Eye from the original Generation 1 cartoon.

My thoughts almost exactly. I don't mind the color of the windshield, I just wish the back of the lower legs were blue.
Now, I don't know that I'll get this version, but I'd probably go for it if it were on a sale for $35-ish.

. Seeing as they are starting to show up I. Asia, hopefully it won't be too long before they show up in North America.
Once they clear Megatron and Hotlink that is

Trailer or Battle Masters. What a choice...

Well, the vanilla trailer is garbage. Plain, odd looking, and missing key components. However, once upgraded with Repros and Shapeways its awesome. But of course the added costs are ludicrous.
So the Battlemasters may be the cheapest and simplest option overall.

Love the G2 style head with the bright blue mouth plate and red eyes.
Definitely much better than I was expecting.

That's why I really dig the United version. It's just too bad they didn't make his eyes a different color but it's still pretty cool...'nuff said!

I choose both. To obtain only the Battle Masters if said partner gets them first, or to sell off my extra Optimus likewise if I happen to find it first.

I'm guessing newage or or mech planet hotsoldiers on the smaller soundwaves.
I'm guessing with the arm kibble, Netflix soundwave can turn into some kind of lump like the Siege version

This Voyager Class Soundwave is a retool of Siege Voyager Class Soundwave, allowing him to resume his Tape Deck alt mode from the Generation 1 toyline/cartoon series. It's been pointed out by fellow Seibertron user, Wolfman Jake that the vestigal landing gear from the Siege alt mode on the arms now serve a new purpose by filling out the back of the new alt mode and allow the arms to snap in securely.
Ravage and Lazerbeak have also been slightly retooled and redeco'ed to better resemble their earth mode (most evident is Lazerbeaks head).

I also have the G1, MP and Siege, and I will be getting this and selling the Siege version. The back of this one in tape deck mode doesn't bother me, as he'll always be facing forward on the shelf no matter which mode he's in. I was never really over for the Siege version, but it was better than nothing. And this one is better than the Siege one so it'll be picked up if I see it in store.-Kanrabat- wrote:On secon thought, that's a Soundwave I can live without. "Better" in the sense that if you want the most "G1" Generations Soundwave ever. On that perspective, it is the best, no doubt.
But for me, the Siege is "better" because he have his G1 bot mode while having a very original spaceship mode. That make him stand out. And if I want a tapedeck mode, I can always buy that upgrade kit. It's unfortunately quite expensive though.
I will not buy online with shipping and extra fees. But if I find that Netflix Soundwave live in store, it will be very hard to not impulse buy him.

I think the figure overall looks incredibly good...
I don't think this is the best we'll get for a G1 styled figure, but then I keep questioning, how long will it be before we get a non-gimmick, G1 Soundwave that's better than this?
And I'm so happy with my MP version, I don't know if I'm going to wait around much more for the "next better version". As I've said before, it's getting to that point for some of these other characters as well.
If you're willing, humor me and share your opinions on how soon we'll get better versions of some of these G1 characters. Oh, and I mean versions that are gimmick-free with the goal of G1, cartoon accurate appearances.

While it's on my mind the "spaceship" mode that the Siege mold has becomes more cool to me when I imagine it more as a hovercraft that floats/hovers using "soundwaves" for transportation and I like Soundwave more as a ground vehicle anyways, I do the same thing with the Siege Reflector ship mode but with "lightrays" instead of sound.

Oh yeah. This give more points to the Siege for his Cybertronian mode. He could also work as Bee Movie Soundwave I think. But if they ever make a SS BM Soundwave, I wonder what he'll look like. Especially in altmode.

I think that if they ever did a Cybertronian mode Soundwave from the Bumblebee movie, his alt mode would be similar to the War for Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron version.

Exactly, plus no doubt fans could put together a fan mode for his tape deck alt that he never took in the movie

Exactly as they did for the original deluxe WFC toy. It was so good that the fan mode was officialised in the sequel, FoC.

This feeling really started for me in Titans Return, where I would put the whole line out on my pool table for a battle. Then convert them all to alt modes so they could charge each other. Then realize that a boom box can't do crap in this scene, so I had to load Blaster onto Fort Max and Soundwave onto Trypticon. Then it hit me, a tape deck is a really dumb alt mode for the year 2020.
So as meh as Siege Soundwave's space barge might be, it is still more fun for me personally that a tape deck.

Nah, lots better transformer games out there -a few of the Baynus games were better, Devestation and Saints Row 4.
Plus none of them had Earth mode dinobots on Cybertron before they got to Earth.
Would have thought the new game might have had Netflix WFC skins as a dlc but maybe that will happen at some point if the GI Joe game might be getting extra content.

When it comes to alt modes, you have to take into consideration the function of the character in the fiction. Why was Soundwave a tape deck to begin with? It had to do with his function as the Cons' communications specialist. Sure, a tape deck itself might be outdated, but Soundwave shouldn't be turning into just some random vehicle in a fight. As the one responsible for short and long range communications, he shouldn't be fighting anyway, unless it's absolutely necessary. Ironically Soundwave was 1 of the best Con fighters in G1 when he wasn't sending messages.TF-fan kev777 wrote:Here is the thing for me with Soundwave and any potential Blaster retool. Tl;Dr Soundwave needs a special alt mode that separates him from the others. Hence tape deck in G1, the satellite in Bayverse and the drone in Prime. But what else could he be?

Back when Classics/Universe/Generations was more about "updating" classic G1 characters for the 21st century, I had always envisioned Soundwave's new alt mode being as surveillance truck of some sort. Similarly, I envisioned Blaster as one of those SUVs that's been outfitted with a state of the art sound system, like the kind you see in competitions for the loudest bass in an automobile.

Regardless, my point was that whatever he turns into, his alt mode should maximize his abilities relating to his function as a communications specialist. He shouldn't be just another soldier.

Soundwave is cooler when he stands out amongst the cast (besides his voice) and not just another truck or jet since it just homogenizes the cast, which is also why I prefer Megatron's who are tanks or some other ground vehicle, etc instead of a jet because when every Decepticon can fly it's pretty boring, plus making Megatron a ground vehicle both balances his "power level" and gives a reason for why he may keep Starscream around.
Similar would go to Blaster but he hasn't been officially depicted with a diverse set of alternate modes like Soundwave, he tends to be a truck if he isn't a boom-box. (Which reminds me, no remold of Siege/ER Soundwave as a Blaster so far has been really disappointing to me personally since he's a fave of mine.)

No, not completely. The parts that form his Backpack on the Siege version are left out of the Netflix version. So you can get close bot not completely there as the top would be missing for the lamp post.

If you're talking about the animation lamp post in the siege netflix series, I believe it did. But if you mean the animation lamp post from the G1 cartoon, then no if I remember correctly soundwaves chest served as the lamplight and he just kind of hunched over with his arms out
