Why else would the Energon line contain so many specifically-G1 homages within itself when this was an age where Hasbro didn't pay homage to G1 in any of its main lines?william-james88 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:But the 2004 was chock full of stuff that honored G1 from Hasbro: Hasbro's release of MP-1 Convoy, the Commemorative Series G1 reissue line, the Alternators line, and several awesome G1-inspired toys in the Energon line (among some inferior Energon toys, but those were far and few compared to the good ones). About the only thing Hasbro had going in 2004 that didn't celebrate the anniversary was the first Universe line and the Playskool Go-Bots line.william-james88 wrote:Afterall, Hasbro gave us a way better BW 10th anniversary than it did the 20th anniversary of G1.
But it wasnt an outright anniversary. The energon line didnt have stickers highlighting the anniversary, for example. It was just a show line.
It homaged G1 without being G1, Classics was G1 in updated form.william-james88 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:It was an anniversary in spirit. Well then wouldnt that be the line to be against, instead of classics, for the state in which we are now?

Yeah, and G2 was the line that nearly killed the brand.william-james88 wrote:But Prime, RID, the movies, Animated, all of those are homages to G1 rather than being G1 in update form. And that started with Energon, no?
EDIT: Na, I take that back, G2 is the first time we had G1 in updated forms.

Sabrblade wrote:To be fair, this is Hasbro Asia rather than Hasbro proper, and I imagine that this mightn't make it to brick-and-mortar stores in the U.S., so we very well probably won't be seeing this Megatron at U.S. retail, making it be online only like the majority of Platinums have been for the U.S. So the statement of "We cannot sell the Classics Megatron mold at U.S. retail anymore" from Hasbro proper may still hold up.

Just when I want to get out of CHUG, they bring me back in!! I'm looking forward to the Junkion set too, stupid me and my 30 anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie nostalgia!!carytheone wrote:Those are gaudy as hell and I dig that about them. Even though the clear bits make Prime's alt mode look unfinished I like how it makes those parts stand out less in bot mode. I dig the decos and I don't own either of these molds, so I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
Tempting, but I really like the look of these.itscramtastic wrote:Just when I want to get out of CHUG, they bring me back in!! How about I send you the original Classics versions (complete with boxes!!) and I get the new ones. Sounds great. You'll see them when we get confirmation of release in the U.S.

The giant Autobot insignia, that wick Megadeco. This set is really doing it for me. I'm glad I skipped that AoE set with the classics prime. Too much chrome for my tastes.
