Yet by your own admission you can't accept that people don't like it.

So why keep hammering the question? The answer is simple. YOU need to accept that people don't like it.

It really is that simple.

Okay, I'll accept it. Let's not argue.

You can accept it, but they should also accept that people like the movieverse. There's a lot of "I can't believe it!" on both sides.

Don't cave to Burn's pov completely.

Not the pov as a whole

This is the part I was talking about.

Accepting needs to work both ways.

My POV that he should enjoy TF's his way and not let the ways others enjoy it or not enjoy it impact on his?

See, that's a part of the problem though. "Don't give in to someone's POV" inevitably means that the only reason you didn't like something was becuase you are following what someone else said. The movie made like $400 million dollars. If you liked it, you're hardly in some persecuted minority. But just as soon as people started talking about the third one stinking, the other camp started saying people only hate the third movie because they're brainwashed by the critics. Like this one won't make $400 million dollars, and some people won't like it, and those that do will act like they're in some persecuted minority for liking it.

The real point is, Burn is right as he usually is. You probably shouldn't let other peoples' opinions affect your enjoyment of something overmuch. I question how much someone actually likes something if they put too much stock in what others think about it.

Yes it does.

But some people are incapable of that. At which point you just accept that they have their opinion, you have yours, and move on.

I've seen many "discussions" go round and round in circles simply because both parties won't accept that they have differing opinions and it ends up becoming completely and utterly pointless.

And often results in threads getting locked.

It's some incessant need of their's to keep it going. That's why I finally say "I'm done" and agree to disagree and don't go back on it. I'll ignore future posts, in a given thread, by the other person at that point. It's not worth it.

I dont mind the guy. Come across as a bit of a knob end at time but then many people do. hard to hate him though as he directed the 1st movie and thats enough for me. Whatever comes after that isn't gonna change that fact.

I know what point you're trying to make, and I can tell by the exclamation point that you're becoming frustrated.

Part of my point is that you need to take your own advice. You're part of the problem. You're unwilling to listen past a certain point, and you keep going.

I still stand by what I said: Easier said than done.

You aren't willing to accept or understand that people's comments do affect one another. You say "hit the back button and walk away", but you know better than anyone that that doesn't happen and sometimes doesn't work. (And seeing posts of your's in the past, I'm quite sure you have personal experience in not hitting the back button yourself.)

You don't allow what people say to affect you, but it's not because you're able to tune them out, it's because you don't give a damn about what they have to say and you make it very clear that only your opinion matters to you and if someone agrees, great. If not, well...

That's not always how it works in a community. Sometimes, there is no back button.

Instead of getting frustrated with what we're saying here, why not take your own advice and hit the back button?

I'm not being a prick here, I'm asking out of genuine befuddlement.

Autobot, you're probably right. The only reason why I accepted was because I felt it was getting into an argumentive discussion, and was a little intimidated by his persistence of his opinions, because most people just leave without proving a point. I also really hate it when I get an argument fueled.
Another good thing you said: Accepting needs to work BOTH WAYS. ALL OF US need to realize that.

Sorry Burn, but I still like Autobot's way of thinking. Although, the arguments are both sides are good to me.
Easier said than done is a good summarization to me. There is no way you can tell me, Burn, that you have never become worked up over something on here and engaged in an arguement. By being submissive I was trying to end the argument quickly, but I can see your frustration. Let's all sit back down and relax and carefully consider the points of the other side before we turn into :BOT: vs. :CON:

Oh now that was funny. Exclamation marks are for emphasis, it doesn't necessarily constitute frustration.

Still, thanks for the chuckle mate.

Actually I understand perfectly. When have I said I didn't?

It's called learning from experience.

How many times have you responded and incited a flame war instead of hitting the back button?

Yeah, just think about that one for a little bit.

You don't allow what people say to affect you, but it's not because you're able to tune them out, it's because you don't give a damn about what they have to say and you make it very clear that only your opinion matters to you and if someone agrees, great. If not, well...

That's your judgement of me.

Here's the thing. You're wrong.

I don't allow what people say to affect me because that would be silly. If I didn't care about what others had to think then I wouldn't have created two different discussions asking for people's opinion now would I?

Instead of getting frustrated with what we're saying here, why not take your own advice and hit the back button?

I'm not telling you that. Never have I said that I haven't.

I have. Many times. I learnt from experience. I'm sharing with you, from experience, how I learnt to deal with that sort of thing. And let me tell you, it's helped me increase my enjoyment of TF's.

Some how though, my words are being twisted around and being treated as inflammatory. Far from it.

Ok easy, let's calm down. I apologized if I had put words in your mouth. I try to refrain from that. Your opinions are making more sense to me now. zhowever, I still cannot completely agree. And sorry to say it Autobot, but using the same phrase did contradict the point you were trying to make.

No, it only incites anger because you allow it to.

But really, one little character, and from that you assumed how I was feeling. Maybe it's just me and my twisted sense of humour, but it's funny that someone can assume something so far out of left field like that.

Yeah! Because you keep going round and round and round and you're not letting it die. You're not hitting the back button.

Because I don't have a need to hit the back button. I'm not getting frustrated or annoyed. I'm quite enjoying this little discussion. :D

I guess the hate could be a positive thing for him. Maybe it'll motivate him for TF3 huh?

I think we'll be pleasantly surprised by the third film. Orci & Kurtzman have nothing to do with writing it.

I still say they are the weakest link in all of it. I think the 3rd film will prove it, too.

Yeah I think TF3 will be better than everyone gives it credit for (it's not even out yet!). I think the new vehicles will have characters just as intriguing as they are.

Well the death threats from the first movie didn't do much.

But as A032 said, it's really those two bit over-rated "writers".

Seriously, it's them.

Watch the pilot of Hawaii Five-0 and then the next two episodes. It's like passing from one dimension of craziness into one of reality and smarts.

The writing and quality is that drastic. It's amazing.

The pilot was rushed, there was no characterization, and it had just enough plot to move the episode, but it wasn't deep or anything. In fact, TF1 had a bit more depth than this episode, and considering this is supposed to be real life, that's a pretty sad thing to be able to say.

H5-0 should be mandatory viewing for people who complain about other writers and the TF movies. Orci & Kurtzman prove just how sucktastic they really are. 45 minutes (minus commercials) is what it takes to show you just how bad they are.

I'd blame John Rogers (he helped with the first film), but they knew he wrote Catwoman (Halle Berry's version) and they should've known he'd bring t3h suck with him when he came to write, so it's their fault for bringing him in.

I'm just amazed at how these guys continue to get jobs. It's all about getting lucky, but when Star Trek 2 crashes and burns with the critics and fans and the box office suffers (and it will), you'll see people sing a different tune about these guys.

I don't hate them, I don't think they deserve the Bay treatment (I.E. what he received for doing the movies), but they definitely need to be seen for what they are. Hacks who ended up getting lucky through some weird twist of fate.

I know you mentioned it in another thread and I knew it was coming, I didn't realise it had already aired.

But to me, it's just another unoriginal idea from them. Seriously, what have they done that is original?

Fringe is close, but it still started off as an X-Files rip-off (but has quickly grown to be something else)

That's exactly what it is. But they've taken pre-existing stories and "updated" them.

As far as Star Trek goes, succeeded because of Abrams, not them. They were given a basis and went from there. But did they create the characters? Did they create the technology? Did they create a lot of the mythology?

No.

And they haven't done that for ANYTHING they've worked on. They've been bloody lucky that the stuff they've worked on has brought in big bucks. Says a lot for the us though that we continue to support their stuff.
