Buyers Beware: KO Classic Skywarp & Thundercracker
Re: Buyers Beware: KO Classic Skywarp & Thundercracker
The obviouls answer is then you start with a BLUE base and add your own details from there. According to the dealer at KO toys these KOs are higher quality for KOs. Not the cheapest plastic and all falling apart... so a good baseline for a quickie custom.
I for one don't happen to want to paint an entire figure from head to toe, otherwise I'd already HAVE a custom Thundercracker.

But you can easily get a Hasbro Seeker mold for cheap, why buy a knockoff?
The cheapest you can get them is $15-$25 MOSC for Acid Storm or $25+ for Classics 2.0 Starscream MOSC. That's a bit pricey for something to repaint. KOtoys are marking these up to $15 to turn a profit, so if you could find them at a retail store they would be cheaper and therefore more cost effective to buy to repaint.

It's best to assume every link I post is NSFW, and every post I make is just me taking the piss.

After tax and shipping the figure comes out to like 18-20-ish dollars. I would know, I just ordered a few Universe 2.0 deluxes.

well I just received my ko seekers on the mail today, as k.o.s go they are pretty nice, the plastic is a bit on the flimsy side (I snapped a wing off the "starsrceam" on on the first transformation, but that is easily pinned), and they are not put together as well as a real seeker. the paint apps are messy, and there is a lot of mold lines. that said the transformation sequence is exactly the same and they look very much like the source toy.on the whole not too bad.
If you want a blue seeker base, this may be one way to go
basically you have to do a lot more work to turn acid storm into thundercracker, but it is much more sturdy and you get the yellow canopy. so six up half a dozen down really

I ordered a KO TC and Skywarp, I plan on bashing them together to make one decent TC. I'll keep the plastic quality in mind as I open them up! Any chance you can check and see if the KO missiles fit into the real seeker mold launchers? My legit Skywarp lost a missile somewhere and I plan on using the KOwarp missile as a replacement.
That came pretty quick, when did you order?

on the ninth,
one weird thing though, it seems like the skywarp figure is the best of the lot, the paint apps are the best, nothing is backwards, and even the plastic seems to be a bit better.

Wow, that's PDQ. Are you in the U.S.? Either way I am on the East Coast, so it is bound to take a couple extra days. I placed my order on Tuesday, I'd be estatic if it arrived tomorrow or Saturday.

I think anyone who missed out on BotCon or Henkei Thundercracker should get these.
It's probably the only affordable opportunity you'll have.

QFT. Plus the money I am saving not getting the "real" ones is going towards FP Defender.

This does not get you a Thundercracker for your collection.
For those of us who don't mind knockoffs and don't want to pay stupidly-high prices for the originals it does.

But then, and what I can't understand, you know this isn't botcon TC. Anyone buying botcon TC will know it's not (going on the thought that botcon collectors have actually seen the figure they want before going out to find it), it's obviously inferior in that it's plain blue and undoubtedly lower grade plastic. Why get annoyed by it, and take shots at others that like it?
You're not the only one who bought botcon Thundercracker man.
Besides, what I could've written would have been a tired argument that has been posted many times before, every time classics TC raises his head. And I'm tired of posting it.
I find it funny you are assuming I'm mad about the money I spent on BotCon Thundercracker. I paid less than $40 for both of mine. It is only you who are assuming that I am mad about the money. I never said anything about the cost, it's just funny that you are the one who keeps bringing up the cost.
I'm upset at knockoffs because they are stealing Hasbro's intellectual property. I also find all the justification for KOs funny too. I'm sorry, but it is stealing. If you can't afford it, you don't get to buy it. Same thing with movie and music torrents, you didn't pay for it, so you don't get to have it.
Explain to me how buying something that is on store shelves, legally for sale (such as the KO Devastators at Big Lots) is stealing. I've seen RobotMaster knockoffs there as well, and Protectobots, etc. I plop down my money, walk out the door, and I'm stealing.
Ok, sure.

Re: Buyers Beware: KO Classic Skywarp & Thundercracker
I love customs personally, started way back in G1 days with a custom headmaster of the PM OP cab, but I regret destroying my official TFs for custom figures to this day. If I can get a KO figure for the base of a project, then in my mind it is better. I still buy the originals when I can find them, except the movie figs, really hate those toys, but I dont want to cut them up or take them apart to repaint them. Sometimes you can find a TF toy at a flea market or second hand store for cheap, but its getting harder to do.
I understand the intellectual property arguement. But with the changed the KO manufacturer made, isn't it like telling someone that they should enjoy spoof songs because they knock off the artist that made the original music.
In short, I'll be getting the KO seekers for my customs and have fun doing it, ty.

I think people have come to accept that there are blue seeker KOs, they clearly are infernor to the REAL Thundercrackers, but some people are fine with using them for the base of a custom. To those with actual Thundercrackers, enjoy them. To those without, enjoy your cheaper alternative.
Now I just want a nice Classic Sunstorm! (real or KO!)

Now THAT is a brilliant thought. A few paint apps to finish it off, and you've got yerself a pretty sweet Thundercracker that you can handle and play with without fear of smudging or damage!

The plastic on these is pretty brittle, I snapped off both of Skywarps wings trying to take him apart. Some of the screws holding them together were already stripped.
All in all a pretty decent display TC for ~25 bucks. Plus I plan on re-assembling the unused seeker to turn into something.
