That being said, they have received some love. Chop Shop got to be an accessory for a Legends-class Megatron. And he got to be a Thrilling 30 Shrapnel retool during Combiner Wars,
Yeah, Chop Shop got some love, "THEY" didn't. Hell I'd be happy with the Fansproject set but the bastards never made Venom.
It's been 5 or 6 years since Hasbro made Chop Shop & I've been hoping at every big toy reveal since. Look at the massive amount of figures we got since then. We got some really STUPID repaints in that time. The movie line has a bunch of weird repaints straight out of left field.
1. Redecoes are a way to A. maximize a mold's profitability, B. retain trademarks, and C. flesh out the stock on shelves.
Aimless Misfire wrote:Then there's the pirate sets & that weird heavy metal rock band set that nobody asked for.
Are you talking about the Botcon sets?
Aimless Misfire wrote:Plus all the weird crap 3rd party makes. And the subscription service had some really strange choices. And out of all that, nobody could be bothered to make 1 complete set of Insecticons?
Because not very many people care about the Deluxe Insecticons compared to the others. They've had only slightly more of a presence in fiction than the Powerdashers, and lack the allure of certain other minor characters.
Aimless Misfire wrote:The amount of reveals this weekend is crazy. What's it going to take to get them to update every G1 character at least once?
A belief that they'll get ROI.
Aimless Misfire wrote:Just look at the amount of Bumblebee's they pump out. Bumblebee was a complete nobody until they decided to force him on us beginning in 2007.
Wrong! Wrong wrong wrongity wrong wrong wrong! Bumblebee was a major character in the original cartoon,
appearing in several episodes for several scenes and receiving several lines of dialogue. He was also a major character to a lesser extent in the Marvel comics. The Deluxe Insecticons on the other hand got like
ONE small appearance in the Marvel comics, and then more substantial but nevertheless minor roles in Dreamwave and IDW.
Aimless Misfire wrote:Between G1 & the 2007 movie we never heard about Bumblebee. Bumblebee wasn't in anything from Beast Wars through Cybertron.
1. Lack of appearances in continuities between G1 and 2007 =/= being a nobody before 2007, because of his presence
in G1.
2. It wasn't for lack of trying.
Armada Hot Shot was originally supposed to be Bumblebee (and he looks it), but Hasbro had let the trademark on the name lapse. Which would be a big part of why they insist on injecting a Bumblebee into each new continuity - they don't want it to happen again.
Aimless Misfire wrote:Out of the 5000 Bumblebee's we got in the past 13 years, we could easily trade in 4 of them for 1 each of the Insecticons.
You say that, but A. most of those are movie Bumblebees backed by his being a major character in the films and B. The nostalgia for G1 Bumblebee is far greater than that for the Deluxe Insecticons (although not as great as the marketing department has sometimes imagined it to be).
