That's not the one without his shirt is it? If it is that one is a rare variant.

Nah, I bought a G.I. Joe figure, not a wrestling toy.

Noooooo. One of the last waves of ROC had a shirt less SS that came with some sort of bladed backpack. The regular version came hooded while the variant was hood less like during his fight scene with SE.

I got the version where he has the white tracksuit with no mask. Suction cup, 2 sais, sheath backpack, dinky sidearm, rocket launching green dildo.

I went to the Long Beach Comic Con and IDW was selling the GI Joe: Hearts & Minds hardcover early. Since Max Brooks and Howard Chaykin was at the show, I have several comics and books signed (Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z; Chaykin's American Flagg). It was a real treat to have Hearts & Minds signed, really great book.

At least you guys are finding them.

I keep getting to zellers or wal*marts that clearly have had some, bu by the time I get there it just the odd Duke or Stormy that's left.

At least on the good front, in checking a couple specialty shops I do have a Jungle Viper, a Spirit, and found Recondo yesterday. Also found a Snow Cat/Wolf Hound last week so at least feeling better I got some of the new stuff.

Now to decide if I see another SC/WH if I grab it for either a COBRANorth or Red Shadow convert.

While shopping for comics today, I saw this old paperback edition of GI Joe: Special Missions.

While I just bought the recent IDW collection which collects the same issues and then some, there's something about old comic paperbacks that I cannot resist.

As I was drifting off to sleep a thought occurred to me, what if GI Joe was pitched to Hasbro today? Would it get made, how would they market it to an international audience? I then started thinking that Cobra couldn't be marketed as a "terrorist" group because of the real world connotations but as freedom fighters. Ron Friedman refers to Destro as Dr. Destro so if we go that route how about he's a PHD and a nobel peace prize winner. Eh, eh, crazy I know.

Actually, I like that idea. Publicly being Laird James McCullen PHD, this well thought of humanitarian, while also being Dr. Destro running the worlds largest weapons supply and development conglomerate, and on numerous wanted lists.

Personally in looking at a creation of COBRA in a current section, I could see Cobra Commander being a Glenn Beck type, publicly stirring up discontent via the media, in order to recruit via grassroots to build a domestic anti-government paramilitary group.

GIJoe could then be both a domestic wing of the US military dealing with COBRA at home while being a major component of a UN based group (also using Action Force, Canuckleheads and Oktober Guard) dealing with various Mid-eastern based terrorists, African warlords, and South East Asian or Central/south American drug cartels. And of course the Red Shadows, can't not have them running around if Cobra is locked to North America.

No that's the thing, first Destro is African; his voice actor played him that way, I believe in the toon he was drawn that way, and until the 25th anniversary I thought he was a brother. Secondly no weapons dealing. MARS is a scientific academy or scholarship program type thing. This is what I'm talking about COBRA isn't bad per se; think of them as Celestial Being from Gundam 00. I like the idea of Fred Arbco being a talking head. I see GI Joe as the name of the entire global group so I would call the US branch the Falcons like Flint's team from Renegades.

Destro was never African and the cartoon is non-canon.

I know now that he wasn't African but I got the idea for the change from Arthur Burkhart his voice actor who is African American and apparently was led to believe that Destro was a black man who was horribly scarred.

There's quite a number of people who think the cartoon is cannon.

Destro IS black (I mean that). Nevermind his white chest in the cartoons! 1337w422102 already said the cartoon ain't canon!

EDIT: I see you posting on Hisstank.com, 1337w422102 (at this very moment, btw)! Glad to have you on my 2 favorite sites!

It's not their fault, but they've been mislead by the people who made the cartoon and/or their nostalgia goggles.

I just got the Deviant mech from Target, wasn't this released in the Sigma 6 line or somewhere else? I seem to remember seeing it before. Hoping to get the Joe one in the near future, but I had but limited funds today.

Yes it was in their 2.5" mission sets. It's supposed to be retooled to fit the 3 3/4" figures.

Yes it was in their 2.5" mission sets. It's supposed to be retooled to fit the 3 3/4" figures.

Well, it was retooled then. The Deviant comes with the Cyber Viper, which is a repaint of the Wild Weasel that came with the Target Rattler reissue from last year. He fits right in the cockpit, and the mech is pretty cool. It doesn't really seem to fit in with most Joe stuff, even the gun ship from the movie toy line, which I always thought was pretty out there as a design, but the Deviant looks nice on your shelf.

Well, my shelf. Can't really speak for your shelves, can I?
