Thats not entirely true, SRs do similiar damage they just tend to be less consistant, so are more a gamblers weapon.

So, what's with the maxis/preds? what makes them different from bots/cons?

Nothing really, aside from alt modes which apparently isn't working yet.

You'd need to reset your guy, go to the upgrade screen and there'll be an option to do so.
