I could qualify it a few ways - i.e. we've never seen something executed in this way in the Generations line, or we've not had an expression of evolution where one character indelibly transforms into another. That is to say, someone like Star Saber or Powermaster Prime is a super mode; Prime doesn't have the ability to convert back to Orion in the fiction (although I suppose Rodimus reverts to Hot Rod in the cartoon/anime).

You're right on this in that there's never been "Beast Wars but worse than in the 90s" before Optimal Optimus. The other Generations Beast Wars figures were marvelous improvements over the originals (I'm not counting Universe Cheetor and Dinobot here, just Rhinox, Rattrap, and Waspinator)
