Here's a fun game. Just off the top of your head, or via the Wiki, count how many Primes there are within the series - books, films, toys etc
For example, without counting the Hasbro editions, there are 17 variants of "Convoy" in the MP line alone.
I think Fetish might not even be a strong enough descriptive.

There is an in fiction reason for so many primes, and it seems to be built on with each successive take on tfs, just as beast wars added sparks to the mix, the Primes came about from different sources (I can't remember if they started in the club fiction or if it was Furman with the fallen. I know vector prime was the first appearance of one of the thirteen on TV.
Now as for your second point, if they know they can keep churning out the same toy and it sells. They would be crazy not to keep selling them. Who has the "fetish" the people who make these toys or the ones who gladly keep buying them.

I have lost five comments to that so far

Who has the fetish? Both. Supply and demand. Say, just for once, in the new continuity there was no Optimus. Ever.
There are literally a couple hundred Transformers. So is the idea without One, HasTak believe the series would flounder? That there is a portion of this fanbase that simply wouldn't buy it because he wasn't in it? That is insane.

The whole idea of this thread is to pitch ideas for a new continuity. Something unique.
Both Autobots and Decepticons, throughout fiction, have had multiple leaders. Some of them more successful than Prime and Megatron. IDWverse explored the only thing left to explore in Megatron, as a heroic figure, Prime is the same in everything.
So maybe a Reboot would benefit from pushing them both into the background (as we can't get rid of them completely, post-Sunbow). Perhaps Star Saber leads the good fight against the forces of Straxus? Springer and The Wreckers battle Tripredacus?
For any given comic, they typically have access to the full toy box of the entire series. Maybe it's time to start dipping in a bit deeper from Day One?

So then we should do away with all of the characters then, since having Starscream, Soundwave, Shockwave, Bumblebee, Prowl, etc... are all the same anyway.
Your point makes no sense and goes against the grain of what makes Transformers popular.
Optimus Prime is the most popular Transformer there is, it is completely retarded on our part to expect Hasbro to have him left out of fiction and it would be completely retarded on their part to do it.

All I'm saying is shuffle the deck. There are hundreds of Transformers. You make characters popular by using and promoting them.
Of course, let's not forget that both Hasbro and Takara have killed off Megatron and Prime before, replacing them with better characters.

It wasn't "retarded" then, although the OTT backlash to that was questionable...
The gist I'm getting here is you're either a fan of Transformers or a fan of Optimus Prime, which again, is insane.

Optimus and Megatron have never been replaced with better leaders. Also one can be a Fan of Optimus AND a Transformers fan, the two are not mutually exclusive.
I mean let's be honest, Are Rodimus and Galvatron better leaders? Nope. Were Starsaber and Deathsaurus? Nope. Were Optimus Primal and BW Megatron? Nope.
You may think some of them were, but the facts don't back you up.

Galvatron, being Mad, perhaps wasn't the best leader. But he was a better character. Rodimus, The Chosen One by The Matrix itself, is canonically The Leader of the Autobots by the end of the War, in most continuities. That would technically make him the better leader. Finishing something Prime was incapable of doing.
BW Megatron also conquered Cybertron singlehandedly, he is the most successful Megatron because he actually got stuff done. He is also a much better character than his G1 counterpart, because he has depth.
I wouldn't have a clue about the Takara Series characters. Then again, they finished their Wars. Prime and Megatron never did.

Also I much prefer Ginrai to op any day of the week. Also animated did a nice take on Optimus, and it gave ultra magnus the chance st leadership he deserved...and a nice big hammer.

Optimus Prime has always been the leader by the end of the war in every iteration of G1.
I understand everyone likes some characters better than others, but if you think Hasbro is going to ditch Optimus and Megatron, or have them talk a step back then you're mistaken.

What is going wrong with this thread? I keep getting a message saying there are new comments and this is the only one at the bottom of the page???
