Not having Bay for the SQL could be a good or bad thing, bad only in the sense that they could get someone worse than Bay. On the bright side, we could get someone who will incorporate 20 years of TF mythology, listen to fan input and constructive criticism and of course have non GM vehicles as a part of the line up even if it means undoing some of what Bay did, or just starting over. True it technically wouldn't be a sequel but think Batman Begins ... this could be a very good thing.

I agree with all those that wish Mr Bay well in seeking projects new to ruin. :)
I also agree with Counterpunch that it wont happen.:(
I agree with General Magnus that Spielberg would a bad idea.

I really don't care which new format the movie comes out on cos I can't afford the TV to do it justice even if I could afford the player. Regular DVD will do me.

Hahaa, Bay is such an idiot. By making this ARROGANT statement of 'no transformers 2'...he believed that most fans would be like 'oh Bay, please don't say that' but it has back fired. People who hid their true feelings about Bay and the movie have come out to really bash him and hurt him.

GET LOST BAY! BRING IN SPIELBERG!!!!

Sometimes, but sometimes not. Jurrassic Park 3 wasn't directed by Spielberg and Superman II wasn't (completely) directed by Richard donner, and both turned out fine.

Well, I've never watched the Superman movies, but Jurassic Park 3 wasn't as good as the first two. As for what g2grimmy64 said, he has a point, look at X-Men 3, Brett Ratner directed it instead of Bryan Singer and it turned out to be the weakest of the three. You can either love or hate the TF movie, but not having Bay on the sequel might hurt the series.

I would say I saw the movie inspite of him directing. I approached it with the same mind frame I would with any movie... let's see if it's any good.

I'm not a big fan of his choices of wordsm, either. I would think a professional in his situation and pubic standing, would avoid using the word "sucks." You wouldn't catch Spielberg prattling off such childish language. All the more reasoning why I consider him a hack. What a shallow, arrogant, whiner... sheesh...

TF2 will be just fine without him.

My man, I commend you on an excellent post.

Bay is an arrogant piece of s***. He does not deserve this franchise and these words shows that he believes he is bigger than the franchise. I just wish those money-grabbers at Paramount have the balls to show Bay the door and get a new director. However, I strongly doubt it...

I'm not a fan of Bay's view on Transformers but I understand his frustration over the DVD format. I f I were a director, I too would like the whole world to see the movie in whatever format its available.

BTW, thanks for clarifying some doubts I had. I was under the impression the movie would NOT be available on regular DVD format.

YES! Now if we can get ALL studios to release their movies only in HD-DVD, we can stop Michael Bay from directing altogether.

Good. Although his directing was tolerable for film one if we are going to have any hope of character development and steady camera views Bay needs not to be asked back for subsequent films.

Thank you Mr Bay but that will be all.

Right now I'm glad the first movie will be available in a DVD format I can buy.

As for Bay not being involved in TF2...hmm. While I concur that having a major franchise switch directors so early in the game doesn't usually bode well, I do hope that whoever does come in doesn't muck with what's established, at least not too much. I prefer the TF designs for this continuity as they are for the most part, and I also like the fact that there AREN'T a staggering number of robots roaming around on Earth this early in the game. Spielberg seems unlikely to do it (although Shia does appear to be his new favorite poster boy now), and I honestly don't see any other directors in Spielberg's league - i.e. Zemeckis, Cameron, Jackson, etc. - ever touching it. I'll have to see what Abrams does with Star Trek and Favreau with Iron Man before I can pass judgement on whether they're qualified (although based on the Comic-Con footage Iron Man has me excited ).

At this point the two candidates I could see taking over TF2 are either Ratner or Emmerlich...the lesser of two evils here, I know.
I got yer new Captain America right here!

Bay seems like a generic action movie director anyways. The sequal will probably end up being a smarter movie experience without him.

I haven't read through all these posts (I can guess what most are saying).

Personally, I loved the movie. Yeah, shaky camera meant I missed some of what happened in the fight, like Brawl loosing his arm, but that is what regular DVD's are for. Yes, I say regular because that is what I will be getting. Back on topic, I thought Bay did a fine job with this. Yes, there were problems, yes, there were not as much characterisation as I would have liked, but lets not blame it all on Bay. He just told people how to act, where to run, what to explode etc. The weak plot and lack of characterisation can be traced back to a group of people alot of you are forgetting about:

Script Writers.

Now, I understand, as director, Bay will have some say over what goes into the script, but most of it would have been written before he joined on.

Am I ecstatic Bay has gone? No.
Am I upset Bay has gone? No.

I will simply wait and see what the new guy can do.

If anyone needs to be brought onboard TF2 to make sure we get decent plots, we need someone like Simon Furman as head script writer. Of course, he is busy with IDW stuff, but still.

yea so theres your official report...:)

I understand that it's his official blog forum, but people in the movie industry say **** and take it back all the time in interviews and what not. I'm not considering this anything more than a political move on his part, and until we get an official announcement concerning the director of a sequel I won't be wasting my energy worrying about this. Knock yourself out though...

Trust me, BluRay is a poopy format. If it wasn't for Sony throwing money at companies to support it and to use it exclusively in a lot of cases, it wouldn't have survived this far.

Well at least you can say because the movie has made so much money that there should be alot of "A" list directors lined up outside the door to do tf2. So it might not be all that bad.

What movie did Sideshow Sideswipe see? There were transforming robots in the first twenty minutes. Or do Decepticon helicopters not count... But I digress...

Bay is using what he has at his disposal to change / protest a decision of which he cannot abide. He is using his leverage as the director of a $600M grossing worldwide film who is threatening to walk away from its sequel in order to influence Paramount's decision(or possibly blowing off steam, one or the other...)

On the specifics, let's be honest - the market should decide. Consumers should have free choice and, if flock to one format, for whatever reason, then so be it. But for a big company to arbitrarily decide to focus on one format only, well that's limiting my choice as a consumer.

We shouldn't be upset with Bay for being upset. We should be upset with Paramount for taking away our choice! Because you know Paramount didn't do it without consideration of other factors including balancing cost savings (of creating two formats) versus the loss of sales by the restriction, and some form of payola from HD-DVD for picking sides.

Finally, to those of you who are using this news piece as a means of continuing their year long slagging on Bay, you need to understand that he continues to have leverage and you do not. If you were on the fence, went to the movie and thought it sucked, I accept your comment. If you "knew" the movie would suck and didn't go because of this, or in protest of one thing or another, I respect that position. But there are too many out there who whined about the movie, WENT ANYWAY, and continue to whine and bash the guy who put it up on the big screen. And I'm a little tired of that. You had a choice - you thought it would suck and you went anyway. Are you trying to feel better because you feel so foolish? Because the "I told you from the beginning and I know it's true because I saw it just because I knew it was going to suck" is getting old really fast.
