I wonder if you could add the chrome effect on the standard figures at home with paint?
If you had paints with a metallic sheen, maybe. Real "chrome" is actually vacuum-metalised plastic and as such requires a separate set of machinery. I recall one Japanese fan commissioning a factory to completely metalise his Fortress Maximus!
O_O That takes dedication. It must have come out beautiful though.
Still, i hope this was done fairly recently or to a very high standard- my RID Prime's stomach chrome has very sadly almost entirely flaked away (although the translucent blue-green underneath actually looks pretty sweet...) and the thought of such a labour of love/money flaking away saddens my heart.
I know you can use paints to get an effect very
similar to vacuum-metallization, but I think you're right that true chrome (like the kind you got on the Microman line) needs special machinery.
That lovely candy metallic sheen that figures like the old Soul of Chogokin Evangelions (not the SPECs) had is completely possible with paint though. I'd love to see a Prime done in candy-apple red, maybe with a metallic flake effect.
