Anyway, One nutty boombox was enough. You know bay will probably re name and give him a new head and bam, Soundwave.
BUT, if he was some easily portable or self moving device *yeahright* it might work.

Key word, unrelated incedent. And that had nothing to do with his alternate mode. His alternate mode was very effective. More so than any other Decepticon's in getting the information they needed about the Allspark. What hurt him was his robot mode size. Add Mass conversion and you have an extremely effective alternate mode for getting into places you should be, and a large enough robot mode to be an effective comnbatant. Secondly, Frenzy was nutty, not because he was a Boombox. He was nutty because he was Frenzy and that is his personality. Soundwqve is far from nutty.

There goes the "act like a duck" argument too
Look again. I said looks like a duck & quacks like a duck. My 3-year-old pointed him out in that pic without me even having to tell him who it was. & if he's anything like Cybertron Soundwave, he'll have the same vocoder voice.

Thus, duck.

Hmmm...perhaps Soundwave should be a duck. He'd be perfect for Easter-time espionage!

YOu know, I just got through watching "roll for it" with my son...& not only did Soundwave NOT transform the whole episode, when spy work was done, either Ravage or Reflector did the work. Soundwave never left Megatron's side.....er....except for the beginning where Megatron was on Cybertron due to the space bridge incident in the previous episode....

Edit: I don't know what's more suprising about this thread...the fact that the same circular argument has been going on for nearly 40 pages, or the fact that it hasn't erupted into an all-out flame war & got locked yet.

A "Soundwave" with a Vehicle mode would not be able to fulfill the same types of missons that Soundwave does. He would thus not act like Soundwave. He would not be Soundwave. A good imitator can mimick the look and sound of something woithout actually being that thing. In order for Soundwave to be Soundwave, he has to be able to do everything that the original could. That means similar alternate mode, mass conversion, the monotone voice, simialr appearance, thoguh more detailed and more realistic looking to fit the movie aesthetic. He must be capable of fitting in anywhere indoors or outdoors, must be able to link up or carry his minions.

A vehicle mode is not in the least bit simialr to a tape deck. He would lose one of his key special abilities. He woudl not be able to fit in anywhere, indoors or out, and would be limited only to military bases. He would not be able to fulfill his missions.

That's what I tried to tell Tramp on one of the last...what, ten pages? In almost every G1 episode out there, Soundwave used his minions to eavesdrop, and then played back whatever they found, and the latter quite often took place in robot mode. Why? Because a tape deck sitting there is just boring.

Tramp at this point who really cares it is out of our hands, leave it to the designers. Seems that they have a concept pic of Sound, so there's a possibility that he'll be a truck, if he has the voice, robot look, and his minions i think most peeps are going to say "hey there is soundwave cool!" Not everyone is gonna be pouty and say "aww man! Soundwave should turn into a boom box" Most people realize there is changes and most prob will look to it for the better

oh come on...by that reasoning Megatron must be a gun because the new Megs wouldn't be able to do everything that G1 Megs could...i.e. Mass Shift, similar robot design, & similar alt mode, wether or not you think his changes are perfectly acceptable.

Wether you like it or not, your reasoning has fallen apart around you. Accept it & move on.

Plain and simple. No matter what we want, Soundwave will be what the producers want it to be, and he will still be "Soundwave," so now can we quit with the "if it's this, it's not Soundwave"? This is about what we think most represents the past character, but any new character will be Soundwave as well.

This is ultimately just about what we want. Saying 'people want Soundwave to be a boombox, so he should be a boombox' doesn't work as an argument for anything. People here, seemingly a good majority of people here, have stated they don't. And the 'my friend said, my professor said, Bill Clinton said' is just as good as fabrication-- hot air. So we are left with only posters opinions, which are still in talmut over the issue. So, when the evidence just doesn't add up, don't make the statement.
well put. Someday I'll be able to make the fancy words that make coherent thought....but in the meantime, I'll stick to ducks.

Meh-- ducks work. I have a special affinity for that type of waterfowl. Had some grazing in my front lawn just as I was coming home.

And, to make sure the argument held water, I skimmed the past 37 pages and got...

Don't want mass shifting (Most of which want a vehicle of some sort, a few want a big concert-class soundsystem):
48

Want mass shifting (Thus some sort of portable audio):

11

Give or take about 3 or so.

Well, let's see, Soundwave uses his alternate mode to infiltrate a factory. Soundwave uses his alternate mode to get into Autobot hewadquarters. He used it to spy on Spike, Image

Yes, there are episodes where he never left Megatron's side. But there are many more where he personally infiltrated various facilities for informatin or for energon, using his alternate mode to blend in and clandesitnely survey the target.

How many times did that work before Spike realized that the free tape player laying on the ground had a Decepticon logo?

You know....just for reference, I would almost like to start a separate thread just to get nothing more than a show of hands as to wether people would like to see Soundwave as a boombox or something that didn't mass-shift. But I doubt mods would like this argument to possibly leak over into another thread.

Yep. And that's the episode I referenced when I said "sometimes" he did the job himself. I'm sure images of Laserbeak spying are much more readily available and diverse.

More specifically, it was the second episode period. One of the episodes where the Autobots flew. Shortly afterwards, it was ruled that only the decepticons & flying alt-mode Autobots could without support from a jetpack....possibly the Dinobots as well.....
