Last season there was a game between the Ravens and Patriots. The Pats got away with so much. It was bullcrap. I can't remember which receiver it was, definitely not Randy Moss though, but he caught the ball out of bounds. There was no denying that, yet somehow it got ruled as a touchdown. Sportscenter and everyone on ESPN and everyone I know talked about it for awhile. It was rediculous. The only people that defended the call were Patriots fans. It was like they were trying to force the Patriots to have a perfect season.

Not to mention the big blown calls in playoff games, see Eagles/Cardinals game, when Kevin Curtis should have drawn that pass interference call at the end of the game. The most missed ones i generally see are pass interference calls as well as maybe facemasks or holding. And if they are going to protect the QB as much as they do, they need to do something about all helmet to helmets, because the way McGahee's head snapped back like that was a bit scary.

Think about it, what better way to have the bad Manning brother "rise to the level of his brother" then by beating a previously undefeated team? It's not as scripted as the NBA...

Hey, if they want to do an underdog story have the Browns go to the Super Bowl. I love my Browns and everything, but they need help big time.

Oh, dodgey refereeing...

I promise you, Footy's got exactly the same problem. There are constant calls for goal mouth cameras and the like, but it gets thrown out by ludite fans who think it'll somehow 'remove the soul out of the game' by asuring goals that dont count arnt counted/goals that do count do count....

Im not for stopping the play everytime a desicion needs making like in rugby, but there are some aplications of technology that can result in almost instant and 100% accurate decission that the ref on the pitch can never relaibly call...

Not that you would know this as a glory-hunting Man United fan, but actually going to the ground watch the football is expensive enough as it is, the last thing we need is to have to pay even more to fund extra camera's to stop the game every 5 minutes to work out whether Ronaldo's latest swan dive is Oscar- or red-card-winning material.

Leave the Ref and Linesmem to do their job's, part of the magic of football is that it's supposed to be the same rules at every level - the 3rd eye will price lover league teams out of the game.

Granted, the Browns were plagued with injuries and selfish players this year(yes Braylon and Kellen I'm looking at you two!), but I don't think anyone thought the Lions had a chance of doing anything this year anyway. After last season everyone, including the media had high hopes for the Brownse. Hence the reason they got some Monday Night games.

You clearly didnt read my post. I want things like goal line cameras and the like, i dont want to use technology for decissions that will take 5 minutes and three men to decide upon.

See.

The most important thing is goal line technology, becuase it is very easy to say yes or no, you dont even need a person to decide, IF: ball inbetween posts and behind line THEN: goal, ELSE: not goal. There's been plenty of goals disallowed or allowed that shouldnt have been that would have been correctly decided by this kind of thing. It might also be possible to determine if it was in or out of the area (although that might take too long to be practical) too. I think the refs should still be the final word on fouls, becuase technology simply isnt goo enough.

As for price, the Premier League is a multimillion pound industry, I refuse to belelive they couldnt aford it, hell, most premiership grounds already have cameras on the line for the tv companies. If Rugby (which has much smaller crowds and following) can aford it, then football can, especilly as it wont be as heavily used.

And finally.

Why cant we just respect the refs? Becuase they're bloody aweful. That red card West Brom got against us the other day? Never a red card. Barly even a yellow. Unfortunetly, as I've already said, technology cant do much about that. But at least if we can get something compitent for the things it can do....

I read it, but understand that as soon as the camera's become a part of standard match play they will be used for everything.

Did the ball cross the goal line? Check the camera.
Did the foul happen inside the box? Check the camera.
Was the player offside then the ball was kicked? Check the camera.
Is that a player swearing?! Check the camera.
Is Ronaldo ever actually fouled? Check the camera...

How about we just get a robot to ref the games instead? No. Football is a game played by humans, and so should be controlled that way, its bad enough that TV stations can move fixtures around whenever they feel like it.

As for price, the Premier League is a multimillion pound industry, I refuse to belelive they couldnt aford it, hell, most premiership grounds already have cameras on the line for the tv companies. Premiership & championship maybe, but if the game is to stay the same at all levels, how will teams outside of the 2nd division afford them without putting the already exorbitant ticket prices up?

And as for respecting the referee; footballers these days are whinging pampered man-bag waving drama queens. If someone argues - or even swears - near the ref in rugby they are off, simple as that. Referee's may be fatherless masterbators, but they keep the game flowing and 1 incident does not a bad ref make.

Does lower level rugby use technology? Doubt it, does it adversly effect the sport that they dont and the higher up guys do? I seriously doubt it.

And the retards at FIFA tryed having 2 extra linesmen (one for each goal) and that was useless (and you can garentee that wont happen lower down either), so surly if you realise something needs to be done, do it properly, no?

And, Im gonna ask this, becuase I've never understood this gripe at all. So what if all games arnt 3pm on a Saterday anymore? I'd rather be able to watch or listen to 4 or 5 matches in one weekend than 1. I love watching football (no mater who the team is) and I love listening to it on the radio if I cant access a tv with sky on it. The more the merryer as far as I'm concerned. It's strange how fans bitch about the tv, but love the players the tv money brings, and love the fact they can watch loads of matches in one weekend should they chose to.

Im a Norwich Cityfan, the big TV money means nothing to us, we'll never see any of it.

I get my kicks from going to a ground, seeing game played there in front of me, feeling the atmosphere and joining in the chants about the referees parental lineage and how much we hate those scummers Ipswich Town regardless of who were playing at the time. The last thing you need in a championship ground - where you cant always see the scoreboard, which most of the time is no more than an LCD board installed in the 70s - is a decision going to a computer, stopping the game in its flow just to find out if a player was offside or not. Its why we have linesmen, otherwise, whats point of them being there?

Watching it on TV is dull by comparison. Seriously Red, when have you actually been to Old Trafford and watched United? If you had, you'd see what I mean.

They could make rules like the NHL did. Video review is only good for double checking goals. Offside, unsportsmanlike conduct(including swearing), penalties and the like are not reviewable.

Have they put video review in baseball yet? I know i heard talks of the same thing for whether a ball went foul or if it was a homer.

And Original Sin, maybe your Browns can do what that new NFL commercial does, and they could actually hire LeBron James to play for them as WR and on special teams

I like the way it is in hockey, and there's not many bad fouls called IMO. It's probably even harder to flop, being on ice and everything.

Yeah, it was incorporated for that reason during last season.

I cant aford to watch many matches at old traford (or anywhere else for that matter) but I have been on the tour at old traford, and I have seen football played live in the stadium elsewhere (Darlington (closest team to me right now) vs Bristol Rovers (one of my former housemate's team)) and I know how enjoyable it is watching games in the stadium.

Dosnt mean I cant enjoy watching all those matches on tv.

AND I WILL SAY THIS *AGAIN*...

I only want technology that is quick and simple to make it's decision. The match will get inturutped *anyway* if there's a difficult goal decision. At least with this, it can bedecided instantly, and the game can either restart or continue depending on the decision. All premiership refs wear headsets these days anyway, so they dont even have to wait for someoen to run up to them and tell them.

I dont want anything that envolves extra human interference, just things that can be decided using simple sensor and camera technology, and be transmited virtully instantly to the ref.

Raphael Prime wrote:They could make rules like the NHL did. Video review is only good for double checking goals. Offside, unsportsmanlike conduct(including swearing), penalties and the like are not reviewable.

Bingo bango!

Anyway, you're just annoyed that you suport a team that is so crap it needs to rely on a TV chef who excels in the art of 'how to boil an egg'...

I do too, i'm a fan of the video review. Yeah, there aren't many bad penalties called, theres some, but not a lot...But missed calls..that's a different story haha.

Ok thanks. I just remembered hearing talks of it, but didn't know they had put it in yet.

I agree, but it can get worse the other way around. I think the NFL needs replay, but calls should only get overturned with indisputable evidence. I've seen calls that could go either way or even indicating one ruling go to the other.

I don't follow hockey extremely closely, how surprising is it that they're the best team in the league?

I wouldn't say too surprising. In my opinion, they have one of the best goalies in the league, so that's one reason it's expect. Then with players like Thorton and all, it's expected. But i don't think any thought they would be doing this good, number 1, yes, but not this big a lead on the Western Conference.

Meh...they'll choke in the conference finals. The Habs are destined to win this year.

Wouldn't surprise me, they've choked two years in a row now when they were easily a heavy favorited team. Habs are slippin a little, if i put my money on someone from the East this year, sadly, i'll have to say either the Caps or Bruins.
