Yep, easy mistake. When you type "Prime" so many times while talking about various figures in PotP it just sort of slips out.

Damnation! The ONLY figure on the whole line worthy of my name! It had BETTER come out...
Sadly.
You know, sometimes I really wish we'd get a Generations line whose whole shtick is homaging 'older stuff not Generation 1': Beast Era, Old RiD and Unicron Trilogy. There are so many interesting design elements in those older lines and shows which could make for some unique figures. Or, at least maybe extend this 'anything not Core G1' so you'd have mostly euro-G1, Headmaster, Masterforce and Victory-era things in there.
We came oh so very close to it with Titans Return. Unfortunately, Hasbro staff seems to be nearly entirely filled with G1 loyalists and I heavily suspect that the success of IDW comics earlier and the Bay movies is entirely why G1 slavishness is so prevalent. I mean, there was a time not-so-long ago (a decade or so and more) where you had Optimus and Megatron with more unique designs which gave each one from each show their unique identity. However I suspect this was because, following Beast Machine, that it was Japan producing these shows and toylines (or at least more input in the process with the Unicron Trilogy). Following the G1 revival with Dreamwave and IDW and the Michael Bay movies bringing back the serie in the public eyes and that of old fans who hadn't heard of Transformers since their childhood, Generation 1 was all the rage.
This continued with the Aligned continuity (which, while a whole new take in many aspect is also very 'G1') and now with the Evergreen designs. So while it's a plus for collectors who want a full season 1 to 3 cast with modern engineering (spread over a decade and more!) it severely diminish the creativity of the brand and designers in the long run.
It also has the unfortunate side-effect of leaving in the dark anything not part of the 'core G1' with a few random bones thrown here and there at fans of other incarnations.

You would have LOVED the Thrilling 30 line. There was a bit for everyone in there and the G1 figures we did get were of characters who never got their own proper new toys.

It's hard for me to view the Unicron Trilogy as "older stuff", after all that was just a few13-15 years ago
. But yeah I get it. I can understand why some fans would want something more like T30, which had a little bit of everything, rather than what we've had in the Prime Wars. But it is those *core* original series modernizations that brought me back after 10 years of not purchasing a single toy. I 100% agree I would like more Japanese characters, and characters from 1988-1990 since I never had most of those as a kid since I had moved on from Transformers back then. For me, I've loved getting back into the toy collecting part these past couple of years, and sharing it with my son, but if it is to end with PotP, then so be it. Transformers is multigenerational and should be enjoyed by all, even if it cyclical. I'd rather take breaks and return to the franchise every few years and see something really spectacular than constantly be marginally involved with mediocrity (not saying this is the case now, but Evergreen and Cybermissions definitely smack of this). I really loved BW at the time because of the animated series, but I only ever collected a few toys, and I'd imagine I'd be waiting for those again. I personally have no desire for updates to Unicron Trilogy characters, but I'm sure those that grew up with it that are now in their 20's are probably really wanting them, and that is fine.

Yeah, Thrilling 30 and the 2009 portion of Universe were the big anniversary lines (30th and 25th, respectively), so those ones payed tribute to more than just G1. Next year's gonna be the 35th anniversary, so who knows what we might get out of the first WFC line (besides the general notion of pre-Earth form toys, that is).Skritz wrote:william-james88 wrote:Skritz wrote:You know, sometimes I really wish we'd get a Generations line whose whole shtick is homaging 'older stuff not Generation 1': Beast Era, Old RiD and Unicron Trilogy.

It's frustrating that Power of the Primes is likely going to end without getting full teams for three of the Voyager torsos: Starscream, Elita One, and Inferno. While I'm holding out hope that we get the last two Season 2 Female Autobots, Greenlight and Lancer, in CW form, I think we do have enough "spare" characters left over from Combiner Wars and the TFCC to fill in most of the gaps. It all, of course, depends on how you filled out your CW teams, using regular retail release characters or going for the special edition offerings from online, and if you went with Unite Warriors instead in some cases. I'll list my personal plans below:
Starscream/Megascream:
Dreadwind (PotP)
Darkwing (PotP)
Blast Off (jet version) (CW)
????????
Dreadwind and Darkwing are given for Starscream, I believe. I got the Unite Warriors Bruticus, so I've got the Hasbro brown jet version of Blast Off free to use. Anyone picking up the "May Mayhem" Hasbro shuttle Blast Off can ostensibly do the same. That just leaves one more character, preferably someone with a flight alt mode, left to fill in the last spot. Otherwise, I could use CW Offroad, again having Unit Warriors Menasor, though others may just have May Mayhem Wildrider/"Breakneck."
Elita One/Elita Inf1nite
Moonracer (PotP)
Firestar (PotP)
????????
????????
Again, this is obvious. I know that Jazz is featured as part of Elita Inf1nite on the boxart for Elita One, but I'd rather have Greenlight and Lancer be her last two limbs. We'll see what the future holds, I suppose.
Inferno/Firestormer
Jazz (PotP)
????????
????????
????????
I put Jazz here just because that seems to be a more "natural" fit putting Jazz with a more established series regular from the first two seasons of the original cartoon. I consider the Female Autobots to be more along the lines of "special guest stars." Still, that leaves three spots open, but there are a lot of Autobot options for filling out the rest of Firestormer. If you got May Mayhem Slingshot/"Quickslinger" for Superion, you can use CW Alpha Bravo for Inferno's team. Similarly, using May Mayhem Deluxe Groove for Defensor frees up CW Rook. I have Unite Warriors Lynx King/Sky Reign, which used Ratchet instead of Smokescreen, so my CW Smokescreen is another good choice. I also have two TFSS Bluestreaks. That may seem like a cheat, given that he's more properly part of "Wreckage," but that team also has a rotating cast, that includes Alpha Bravo and Offroad, so you can swap one of those in to Wreckage to free up Bluestreak, as long as you don't double dip elsewhere, I suppose.
This post was mostly just for me to open up a dialogue and brainstorm with fellow fans about how to fill out my Combiner display. Any input or alternate ideas are welcome! I know, for instance, that "Medix" is another possibility, made from the final BotCon Ratchet plus a special sticker, but I think very few fans have access to that option, unfortunately.

Using all UW, CW and exclusives to the Club & Conventions I made 20 perfectly complete and unique combiners from the last line. Yet with PotP if we don't get a full wave 4 it could leave quite a few empty spaces.
I will be pairing up my Voyagers exactly as you have shown them. 2 limbs missing for Starscream & 2 Missing for Elita & 3 missing for Inferno. If Inferno were to be scrapped, we could just get 3 more deluxes (2 cons and one Autobot), and that would complete Elita & Starscream. I too would prefer an all female team to complete Elita, but the chances of getting 7 more deluxes are slim-to-none.
My Dream (which will not happen but...)
Greenlight & Lancer to complete Elita-1
Sideswipe, Tracks & Skids to complete Inferno
Skywarp & Thundercracker to complete Starscream.

Jazz is clearly part of the Elite-1 combiner because of how popular he must be with the ladybots.

Really not bothered about Starscream having a team to combine with, he just isnt a team player, that and no other decepticons like him for the most part anyhoos. Figure I'll spray paint CW Dragstrip red for one of his limbs (based on his minicon in armada) if/when I get a UW Menasor. Seems fitting for the rest to be who ever is unlucky enough to be used as a limb for him.

I never really learned much about shattered glass, I know that R. Unicronus is an unofficial homage to that series, but...is that Rodimus an homage to macho man Randy savage, or is his appearance and similarity to that wrestler coincidence?

His goatee is a reference to the evil mirror version of Mr Spock from the original Star Trek series. Spock was second in command and Rodimus was second in command, so it became a fun reference.

I just wanna point out that the design team consciously designed the hand-armors to be able to interact with cw shockwave perfectly

Ok, I can see that, but with his headcrest design looking slightly bandana-ish to me, I still see macho man in this toy more than evil Spock. But, that is a cool reference all the same, thanks!

Is it wrong I want Rodimus Unicronus when I decided to not get Hot Rod/Rodimus unless I see it on clearance (due to already having a deluxe Hot Rod)? The Shattered Glass homage, the beard and shades and that sexy jet black color scheme with eeeevil purple. It's a cheesy repaint but part of me absolutely dig the idea of an 'evil Hot Rod'. Not because I hate Hot Rod (I don't!) but because it's one of those cheesy good-guy-turned corrupted saturday morning nonsense.
Evil Matrix! Evil Rodimus corrupted and turned into a vessel for Unicron! It's cheesy, silly nonsense which also happen to be a deco which frankly makes the toy look better due to it being more visually coherent.

There's nothing wrong with wanting a figure you think is cool, don't ever let anyone here tell you otherwise

Somewhere, in a dark cavernous chamber, vince mcmanhon reads this comment and gets a brainwave. He calm you calls his secretary and asks them to get a hold of hasbro. When asked why his response is "for the crossover of icons"
