Sixshot's pretty badass.

Sixshot wasn't beaten by the reapers he was holding his own pretty well and then they stopped fighting and offered him a place on their team.

Well, his full potential against them weren't fully tested. That being said, I like his character in both the JP and IDW take. It's quite amusing that the Terrorcons were his "groupies".

Also, if he gets the Takara treatment, they explain why Jack is now his "headmaster"? An act of contrition? Then that makes him even more awesome!

Given that there's only one character involved in the JP Headmaster process (Leo Prime is an exception and a cheat in that), I could see Sixshot masquerading as Jack as if he's in hiding, or as a bit of psychological warfare with Chromedome... or maybe both.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

Or he turned "good" for the better.

In the JP verse, he did help the "Pretenders" get a heads up on the 'cons nefarious plans.

Well, 1987 was when people were starting to drop out of Transformers in droves; and Sixshot's only major non-Japanese appearance was in IDW - early IDW, and he hasn't shown up for almost 10 years now. We like to think of him as major but I figure someone not knowing about him is pretty forgivable.
<snip>

Wasn't Sixshot in Season 4 (I should put that in quotes, shouldn't I?) of the G1 cartoon? I know that's where I first was awed by his awesomeness, and bummed that he was too expensive for my eleven-year-old allowance level...

That analogy only works if Titans Return Sixshot turned out to be a straight reissue of the bricky G1 mold instead of the new mold with modern day engineering and articulation that we got.

Actually, that analogy also only works if you are talking about Windows ME. Windows 98 was actually a vast improvement over Windows 95 and was the mainstay of many a business well into the 2000s. Twas a pretty awesome OS for its day, and still has uses today. (There are some legacy systems still in use using Win 98.) #OldComputerGeek

Since I still don't have Sixshot ( :( ) I can't give an in-hand opinion; however, as someone who never had the chance to own or even know about the G1 figure until recently I'm looking forward to him. I know exactly what I'm getting myself in for in terms of "G1 with articulation", but I think he still looks good enough (especially in robot mode) that I don't feel like he's 'not worth it' in the end.

Also, quick helpful tip for you LE0KING, since I'm in a similar boat to you on this:
LE0KING wrote:I also avoid the reviews of figures so I don't get spoiled, figuring out how to transform a toy is part of the fun.

I also love to work out figures' transformations on my own! But I also really like to know exactly what I'm getting myself into with a new figures, so I seek out all the reviews I can, usually. To keep that "magic" there while still consuming reviews, I tend to read/watch everything else and skip over the section detailing the transformation (if there is such a section).

Written and pictorial reviews in particular often don't mention the transformation much beyond "it's good" or "it's bad" or "it's complex but intuitive", which is usually useful to know anyway, but if there's an actual step-by-step runthrough then it's really easy to just skip over that paragraph.

Video reviews are a little harder but not by much - usually it's pretty easy to skip over transformation while not missing much else, by skimming thirty seconds or a minute at a time (particularly if you have a feel for how long the given reviewer takes for their transformations - e.g. Peaugh, Vangelus and Thew all do them very differently in very different timespans). You may accidentally see one or two split-second (nearly subconscious) images of the figure mid-transformation, but if you just concentrate on "is it transformed/almost transformed yet" then chances are you won't even notice what's going on with it.

I hope this helped at least a little bit! I imagine you've already thought of taking this course of action and I don't know if it would work for you in particular, but I can definitely vouch for it personally - I've bought plenty of figures over the last few years, knowing they're good thanks to reviews, but still getting to experience the transformation for the first time myself.

Whew, I probably went way more in-depth there than I needed to. Anyway...

Kurona wrote:I like to think that Trypticon can fly in robot mode... but it's incredibly inefficient due to his body shape not really being tailored towards it.

A jet or a humanoid body are commonly recognised as being suited to flying, but a big fat t-rex? You can certainly try, but it's not gonna work out well.

I'm totally headcanoning that Trypticon thinks he's a master of aerial combat, but he's actually so incompetent that it's a hindrance to his entire team when he starts flying. Kind of like Sky Lynx, if Sky Lynx was totally useless.

As an owner of both incarnations of Sixshot, I give the TR version the edge simply due to playability & poseability.

Sure, I prefer G1's wolf-face and he's taller, but he's truly brick-like.

I honestly don't get the idea of people not wanting toys of characters that don't look like how the character is supposed to look.

Unless the intended look is just plain butt ugly, then by all means change the look. But if there's nothing wrong with the look, then why not have the toys resemble the character's look?

I think the issue comes from each person's definition of where the line is between "character's look" and "needs to be changed". For example, some may find Sixshot's alt-modes iconic to the point that they can't imagine them looking any different - but others may see them as objectively bad and want them to be changed. I'd guess that everyone wants the perfect balance between a character's iconic look and one that's updated enough to still hold up; it just comes down to where each person perceives that balance to be.

A lot of the time it's when the character has had rather different takes on their look. Thrilling 30 Skids, for instance, doesn't exactly look like G1 Skids.

For me it tends to be when this design team goes so toy-accurate it's silly, like with Hardhead - he has the toy-accurate face. Despite him having a mouthed head in Marvel, Rebirth, Headmasters and IDW. It's like, one of the only times all the fiction syncs up and gives him the correct head so everybody would be happy with it... and you give him the toy-accurate head that wasn't in any fiction beyond like, a ladybird book? What?

For ne, it's a case of they are recognisable as the character, with certain visual ques, but are also a new toy completely. Classics, generations and universe 2.0 did this perfectly imo.

Personally I'm not too impressed by Sixshot and won't bother getting him. The proportions are kinda weird, the stickers are lame, some of the modes are wonky even by Sixshot standards, his articulation could definitely be better and from what I've seen he has some engineering issues (notably the most useless ankle articulation ever made, with 45 degree ratchet points). I'll probably save up for a Hexatron- he may be less accurate but he looks an infinitely better toy.

I like the idea that Trypticon can fly it somehow makes him scary even if he doesn't fly especially fast - I guess one advantage of New Trypticon is he's big - really big so he fits in well with the idea of him being large as he is in the cartoon.

But the old G1 (or its reissue) is not so much more huge than may other toys (though still quite big) so he's more in keeping with the Comic version (especially the UK Marvel comic version).

But the new one must be way more practical in his "vehicle" mode than the old one as the old one rolled - this one flies !!

---

I have no strong feeling either way - I'm not going to pick on him for his look - maybe for terrible ankles and puny guns.

As for the design - well I would like an improvement to the armoured car mode and the stance of the wolf - also a tail would be nice. (a sword would have been good to give him that tail).

I like his robot mode he looks very fitting. so yeah I'll get him once smyths list him online (and he's in stock) and he drops down under £40.00 - but I'd mainly be buying him for the space ship mode, the robot mode and the titanmaster companion.

I feel like this will be one of their major unveilings at HASCON, but not the actual figure, more like control art and design concepts. I doubt he'll be part of the early offerings of the line. If you think about all of the poll winners have been released in the second half of their respective line, most coming right at the end. Windblade was at the end of Thrilling 30, Victorion was in the later half of Combiner Wars, and Trypticon will be one of the last releases for Unite Warriors. If Optimus Primal comes out before Fall 2018 I'll be genuinely surprised.

I could definitely go for concept art - not only for Primal, but all the different TF types they have outlined coming up! Like confirming the next Titan-class character after Trypticon (please let it be Scorponok!)...

HASCON should be very interesting.

He was in Episode 1 of "Rebirth" for a single scene where he took down the Aerialbots, and that's it. As Kurona said, 1987 was a long time ago, but know its available to any fan who wants to watch it.

Also, just for the record, I know most sites including TF wiki state "The Rebirth" aired Nov 9,10,11 of 1987, however I believe it was a bit earlier. I remember it was just after starting 6th grade, which would have been after labor Day in 1987 so I'm thinking it was either September 7th..or maybe the 14th? I actually recorded them the first time they were on, but of course edited out all commercials so I have no frame of reference.

Just curious, how does it work with the seasons? Is it that you watch rebirth as season 4 and thats the end, and instead you could ignore rebirth and watch the Japanese G1 episodes after season 3 and consider that season 4?

The English-language timeline uses The Rebirth as season 4, and also had a "Best of" fifth season which featured new live action segments of Powermaster Optimus Prime telling stories of the previous Autobot/Decepticon adventures to the human boy Tommy Kennedy (said adventures being the episodes themselves).

For Japan, they ignore The Rebirth (as they never got it until 1996 on LaserDisc) and instead follow up their version of season 3 (Transformers: 2010) with The Headmasters. The American "season 5" is also ignored since Japan never ever got those live action segments either.

Essentially, it's a splinter timeline.

Japan = Season 1-3 > Headmasters etc.
US/UK/etc. = Season 1-3 > Rebirth

Wonder which one has Marty's parents hook up :-?
