I think Mkall's point is excellent. In that there ARE figures the fandom seems to agree are great, as well as others most agree are crap, with the vast majority falling in between. Personal preferences, of course, will vary.

For me, this is a really relevant point, because I feel about this figure how I felt about Hegemon. I like it, but there are several things that I don't like about it. My personal feeling is that Hegemon is overrated, but still pretty decent.
BUT, like Hegemon, I think ManiaKing may be the best version of the character we are likely to see for a while.
UNLIKE Hegemon the fandom seems to think less of this offering.

So I'm still in wait & see mode.

I will say that I hoped Hegemon to be great, but found him less so due to the plastic/joint quality, and a few engineering flaws. But that's just me. I found the rest of your classifications to be spot on.

My criterion are similar to yours, but also different:

(1) Price
(2) Quality
(3) Engineering
(4) Design & Aesthetic

Price and Quality are obvious. By engineering, I mean transformation and articulation. Design & Aesthetic are more overall look and the overall strength of the character analog.

Bringing it all back to the topic on hand, Mania-King doesn't pass the bar on Price. Quality is up in the air (but past work by UT isn't necessarily encouraging). Engineering seems interesting, but small critiques such as those involving the wrists are point against it. And as far as Design & Aesthetic, this figure is very clearly Galvatron, but details like the elongated crest and the cannon design are bothersome to me.

That's how I'm looking at it. So...

I seriously think #5,Scale needs to be added to this list. As most get upset when Hasbro & 3rd party companies creates new age TF toys in the wrong size scale. Scale is everything as it can make a figure successful or ruin it. Scale needs to match the command rank,the size the character appeared in the cartoons,comics or movie. I suspose the original toy scale needs to factor in a bit.

As long as it's in proper toy or cartoon scale it can be both. Hasbro did release that Generations deluxe sized FOC Kickback which is the cartoon scale. in 2014 Hasbro will release the 30th Insecticon Sharpshot toy in the Legion class which is the 1985 toy scale. now if Hasbro were to release a 30th G-1 Insecticon in leader scale this would be a wrong scale.

What makes no sense is when Hasbro or 3rd party companies create TF toys in the wrong size scale. When Hasbro released some of those 2.0 toys in the wrong scale. 2.0 Galvatron & 2.0 Cyclonus should have been Ultra sized toys. While 2.0 Powerglide,2.0 Silverbolt & 2.0 Onslaught needed to be deluxe sized toys. Like what TFC is doing for there combiners that are not in original toy scale & are not in cartoon scale.

Recently,TFC released a Razorclaw toy in the extreme oversized leader scale. this scale makes no sense as it's not in original toy scale. it's not in cartoon toy scale.

I can see where you're coming from with regards to Powerglide, but I personally like his oversized ultra figure. Yes he's too big, but he's a great figure. Ultra sized Galvatron and Cyclonus would've been too big in my opinion, especially for Cyclonus as his design lends him to be a tall figure. For me deluxe is perfect for Cyclonus, but Galvatron should've been voyager. But Onslaught and Silverbolt as deluxes? Are you mad? Voyager maybe, but in hindsight now knowing that Hasbro had no intentions of making them members of a team of combiners their ultra class size kind of lends itself to be a proxy of Bruticus and Superion.

The 2.0 Silverbolt mold had a less complex transformation than 2.0 Cyclonus has. So going by this Cyclonus could have easily been a Ultra sized toy.

Cyclonus was second in command of the decepticons & often leader when Galvatron went nuts. due to his high command rank he deserved a voyager or ultra sized toy. Anyways,Cyclonus 1986 toy was mega voyager size. While Cyclonus in the 1986 movie & season 3 was shown drawn much bigger than the average scale transformer. It's just wrong to Have a 2.0 Cyclonus toy that is smaller than the 1986 toy & 1986 movie season 3 animation art.

cartoon Starscream is an f15, Megatron is a gun. Megs is taller than him. Some of the deluxe sized Autobots used to ride inside the Minibots in robot mode. Worry about scale too specifically, and we'll sort you out a nice little padded cell somewhere.

Not crazy about the white on the cannon barrel tip, but it's not a deal breaker. Other than that he looks awesome. I cant wait !

I agree if the white is really bright like the other photos , but i'm not sure what the lighting is doing do with the shades in these new photos i'll be happy with this dirty generations thunderwing looking white though.

i'd like to see some paint apps on the crest maybe. and slightly different shades of purple and white/grey would work better for me. not keen on the lack of orange on the gun either.

That's my stance too. I mean, it's amazing that they've been able to get a Galvatron figure that transformers into his G1 cannon, where even the animators at the time had no idea how it would work. The final product is not worth over $100 for me.

I shall keep my Superlink Galvatron G for the time being.

I sold my Universe Galvatron, and I don't have Superlink. Yet, this guy isn't particularly tempting - even with the glamor shots.

Perhaps theyll darken the legs slightly, perhaps the wont, still looks great and those curvy lower arms dont look as odd in colour either?

All this talk about this superlink galvatron which i had never seen before got me curious so i googled it. OMG that thing is ugly. A megatron painted in galvatron colors that turns into a jet. Horribly out of scale and doesnt even look like galvatron other than the colors. Even botcon SG galvatron from the blades mold makes a better galvatron. I be glad to add mania king to my collection because he actually looks like galvatron. Twenty bucks more than it should probably cost isnt gonna make or break me.

the Energon Megatron is quite clearly designed to look like Galvatron. Sure, I'd still say this looks more like a Galvatron I'd want than that one, but he has the cannon(s, plural. and in the wrong place) the crest, the chest the belly and the booties. Are you sure you googled the right thing X?

Superlink Galvatron G is EXACTLY the same height as Hegemon. Not that Hegemon isn't really tall himself. Classics Decepticon scale is screwed. (By the way Energon Galvy is about the same height as MP Hot Rod in HR mode; they look decent together).

And, considering both Cyclonus and Scourge are flying types, I find it makes sense that Galvatron also turns into a jet as SL Galvy does. I don't know how you can say it doesn't look like Galvatron. There's a LOT of Galvatron cues there. I'd say it looks about as much like Galvatron as Classics Galvatron does, even if his trademarked cannons are on his shoulders instead of his arm.

But it's not perfect. It has all the inherent flaws found within the mould and the colours are far inferior to the Energon version. I'll probably replace mine with Mania King. But Mania King also isn't the final word on Galvatron, so meh.

Precisely this. If this topic is still being discussed when I get home in a couple weeks, I'll take pictures.

Yeah, SL Galvatron G isn't perfect, but IMO neither is this version. I see no need to replace one flawed version with another, whom I'll end up replacing when something better comes along.
